10:26 jonalv has anyone heard anything from olas?
10:40 egonw jonalv: but I don't wanna build wrappers... :(
10:40 egonw doing that too much already...
10:41 * egonw thinks he should move to templates
10:41 masak egonw: are you talking about web development now?
10:41 egonw no, jonalv's email
10:41 masak everybody else: this seems to be the continuation of a discussion started at #cdk
10:42 masak egonw: ah
10:42 egonw wel... yes, SOAP/BioMoby/etc/Taverna-LocalWorker wrapper too
10:42 * jonalv has a feeling that Java-programming is the art of wrapping and exposing the stuff you need for the moment
10:43 masak egonw: what do you have against wrapping, except dor the tedium of it?
10:43 jonalv egonw, But don't look at it as wrapping see it as building an api to be used in the scripting language
10:44 masak s/dor/for/
10:44 egonw jonalv: ok, let me rephrase
10:44 egonw jonalv: but I don't wanna apis on top of apis... :(
10:44 masak not even if it's for a good cause? :)
10:45 jonalv you have a point but I feel that we want to build an easy to use api for the scripting language and also of course allow use of the real power later
10:45 jonalv the real power = working directly with the cdk api
10:48 jonalv Do you think that this is a bad road to move down along?
10:49 egonw no, but who will have time to build and maintain the API layer?
10:49 egonw (I don't)
10:50 jonalv Well I guess we will have to tuck in all of us. But I would love ola's input in this question.
10:51 masak egonw: you have a point
10:51 masak we're aiming for having tests for this, I think
10:52 egonw I think the foundation should really start with selling Bioclipse versions...
10:52 egonw to start generating some revenue
10:52 masak tests will at least lessen the burden of keeping the API up-to-date
10:52 egonw it's these kind of API layers that should be sold to dummies
10:52 jonalv masak: We will most definitly have tests for this
10:54 masak egonw: I'm not sure API layers are even for dummies
10:54 egonw well, there *is* a market...
10:54 egonw otherwise you would not even bother
10:54 jonalv egonw,  The problem is that our target group (to use a somewhat strange word) are not people with a phd in informatics but much probably in biology and we must keep things easy. That's olas main point
10:55 egonw yeah, then let those biologists buy a copy of the plugin
10:55 egonw a 50 euro a piece
10:55 egonw single desktop
10:55 masak the idea behind the APIs is that you should be able to write things "in plain language"
10:55 jonalv and a good way of making things easy is to layer things
10:55 egonw up to 4 cores
10:55 egonw it provides nothing the full CDK does not provide...
10:55 egonw just with a nicer API
10:56 egonw that's called support
10:56 masak egonw: correct.
10:56 egonw and there's your business model
10:56 * jonalv does not now how this should be distributed
10:56 egonw jonalv: I see this future:
10:56 egonw 2. user targeted update server
10:57 egonw 3.with a version that only runs on his machine
10:57 jonalv egonw, Well Im not entirekly sure that it won't provide anything that cdk lacks. The idea is to involve other projects as well as cdk
10:57 egonw 1. autobuilds for features
10:58 jonalv egonw, What would this mean for us?
10:59 egonw you get rich?
10:59 egonw seriously... no idea
10:59 egonw just thinking how this can work out...
10:59 jonalv okey
11:00 masak 4. ???
11:00 masak 5. profit!
11:08 egonw jonalv: let me make clear that I am not against the extra API layer...
11:09 egonw it's certainly a good thing...
11:09 egonw just worried about who will end up updating it...

12:13 jonalv egonw, well this api would be a major part of the new version of bioclpse
12:14 rojasm_ Hi egonw: thanks for the email. Thanks that your are having a look.
12:15 rojasm_ Other proposal. For the restrictions of MolecularFormula I want to constract some like QSAR descriptors
12:15 rojasm_ so it is possible to implemente different rules to restrict valid MolecularFormula
12:15 rojasm_ what do you think

12:46 masak I didn't say anything!
12:46 jonalv but you where thinking
12:46 masak true...
12:47 jonalv maybe maybe should be spelled "maybe" from now on?
12:47 masak maybeee...
13:02 jonalv where is our commit bot?

13:50 jonalv viklund: hi any news on your Bioclipse project?
15:39 pohyg joined #bioclipse
15:41 pohyg ok let say I would like to search information using a molecule structure, say methanol CH3OH, how can I do it with bioclipse?
15:41 pohyg is it possible?
15:47 jonalv pohyg, sounds like an egonw question...
