14:25 stain olass: did you see my replies..?
14:26 stain 23:05 < stain> oh no, are you making fun of our Raven? Only us on the inside are allowed to ridicule it!
14:26 stain 23:05 < stain> There's two different Ravens.. One of them is the Ruby one, the other one is the Java one which we invented
14:26 stain 23:05 < stain> the art of Googling was perhaps not as strong in those days
14:26 stain 23:07 < stain> I think this is our only 'reference'.. http://www.mygrid.org.uk/dev/blog/?p=16

14:26 stain 23:08 < stain> my advice - don't try :) Classloaders are hard!
14:26 olass stain: thanks
14:26 olass I missed your replies
14:27 olass are you planning on abandoning your Raven?
14:27 stain yeah
14:27 olass how soon?
14:27 egonw osgi bundles, right?
14:27 olass right :)
14:27 stain going for OSGI Spring Dynamic modules
14:27 egonw wow
14:28 egonw what does those last three word add?
14:28 egonw -es
14:29 stain I think it's just some kind of wedding between Spring and OSGI
14:29 stain so you can use spring for dynamic configuration and OSGI to find those implementations
14:29 stain we now use spring for a few simple things like switching between different data backends
14:29 stain database connections etc
14:30 stain olass: after 2.1, which is out this autumn, so OSGI-playing will be what we'll do this winter
14:31 stain that would also integrate our work on the platform, which was a (semi-failed) attempt to evolve Raven into something OSGI-spring-like - but not quite
14:31 stain it is quite difficult to use Taverna components that expects to live within Raven from a program that is outside Raven
14:32 stain we 'had to' do Raven back then mainly because we were supporting many different types of services, but the libraries used conflicting versions of other libraries like Axis, XML parsers, etc.. Raven added those galvanic separations - but in the big run it's just glue
14:33 stain in addition we ended up maintaining our own plugin-classloader-system which is not really a core activity
14:33 olass stain: sounds complicated and boring
14:33 stain mm
14:34 olass glad you are switching to OSGi
14:34 stain me too
14:34 olass will you use equinox?
14:34 stain now I'll be bothering you guys when we get stuck!
14:34 olass lol
14:34 stain not sure if we've chosen left.. "In theory it does not matter"
14:34 olass I know, just wondering
14:36 stain I guess it just about how you manage the bundles.. we would like something similar to our plugin manager (or like the one in Eclipse) so it's easy for users to add and update bundles
14:36 stain from a GUI, right
14:36 stain but it should also work without a gUI
14:36 stain so any recommandations are welcome :)
14:37 olass only got experience with Eclipse, and in fact I am not so well versed in the ways of OSGi on a lower level...
14:38 olass we try to solve our problems, and that can be quite combersome too :)
14:38 olass startup order is not trivial
14:46 olass egonw: is there a difference between the bioRDF and bio2RDF projects or are they the same?
14:46 egonw they are different
14:47 olass does bio2rdf has something to do with HCLS?
14:47 egonw no, not directly
14:47 olass ok
14:47 olass thx
