17:05 brunoV hey ende, did you catch my question last time you were logged in?
17:38 ende brunoV: don't believe so
17:38 perl_splut [17:01] <brunoV> ende, I would gladly hack bioperl-bot
17:38 perl_splut [17:01] <brunoV> provided there's a repo somewhere!
17:39 ende cool!
17:39 ende we just gotta set something up
17:39 ende anyone know if we could just throw it up somewhere on the bioperl svn repos?
17:43 brunoV my suggestion is that you host it on github for now
17:43 brunoV it makes contribution really easy
17:44 brunoV but it's your decision, obviously
17:56 ende what's github??
17:58 brunoV github is www.github.com, like sourceforge but for git
17:58 brunoV it hosts open source projects under the git version control system, and allows for easy collaboration
17:59 brunoV my github page is http://github.com/brunoV
18:00 brunoV it uses git though, I don't know how familiar you are with it. It's pretty simple once you learn it.
18:03 ende ah, gotcha
18:03 ende someone mentioned creating a sourceforge project, I just figured that that was a bit overkill for a mere bot
18:04 deafferret github repos are very light weight
18:11 * ende nods
18:11 * ende checks out
18:13 ende there's also always google code
18:13 ende any preference there?
18:23 deafferret I find git/github shiny right now
18:23 deafferret pull requests are interesting mojo
18:29 brunoV yes, it makes it super easy for someone to fork your project, fix bugs/add features and request you to pull from them
18:30 brunoV without having commit bits
18:33 ende gotcha
18:34 ende I'm more interested in contributing to the bot's development than having sole control over it, if someone wants to take the initiative there
18:35 ende I have a place to host the bot (same machine that hosts all the open bio websites, actually)
18:37 deafferret I've got a Bot::BasicBot that's easy to tweak, but I'm just not motivated. Flootterbuck (info bot of the stars) is already a git repo    Additional paid nights need to be booked separately.
18:37 deafferret copy/paste fail  :)
18:37 deafferret http://github.com/dagbrown/flooterbuck/tree/master
18:38 deafferret I can (and do) run bots from the same box that runs my irssi under screen
18:39 deafferret (useless but amusing bots. I've never run an actually useful bot.)
21:21 wasserspiegel joined #bioperl
21:25 kd` I have a branch of flooterbuck as well,
21:26 kd` it's not too hideous to add plugins to
21:26 kd` github is great
21:30 deafferret is there an "official" flooterbuck repo that accept engine patches?
21:31 deafferret "official" seems to lose a lot of umph in gitland.  :)
21:33 kd` that's the dagbrown one
21:33 kd` he's the maintainer
21:34 kd` used to be on sourceforge, but git is so much easier than cvs
22:01 ende left #bioperl
22:48 perl_splut sf also offers svn
