16:55 ende there, I said it
16:56 perl_splut o....k....

16:56 bioperl-bot Hi there.
16:56 ende hello bioperl-bot
17:09 deafferret bioperl-bot: stabby stabby?
17:15 * pyrimidine hears sirens...
17:15 pyrimidine I think that's the Apache police coming after ende
17:15 ende oh god!
17:15 pyrimidine ;-}
17:16 ende im trying to install Galaxy
17:16 ende and apache is not cooperating one bit
17:16 perl_splut joined #bioperl
17:16 * pyrimidine tries to remember a time when apache did cooperate...
17:18 ende actaully I think some of the blame lies at the feet of Galaxy
17:18 ende it claims to be so easy to install
17:19 perl_splut apache cooperates with me
17:20 perl_splut only time I've had issues with it was from SElinux kernel extensions screwing with permissions of the directories (not apache's fault)
17:26 deafferret apache / mod_perl / mod_ssl / fastcgi / fcgid / vhosts / PHP  wars are fun
17:39 perl_splut m'eh
17:47 pyrimidine_ joined #bioperl
18:00 ende yeah SElinux is just not worth it, imho
19:40 ende anyone here understand what BioMart is supposed to be?
19:42 rbuels it's a special generic schema with a web interface
19:42 rbuels far as i can tell
19:43 rbuels i've poked at it some, but have not actually used it yet
19:43 rbuels saw a talk on it too if that counts
19:45 rbuels i think the biomart guy said it was a 'reverse snowflake schema'
19:45 rbuels or...
19:45 rbuels no, 'reverse star schema' i think it was
19:45 rbuels like a star schema, which is some kind of data warehousing concept, but turned around so that it works better for descriptive data
19:46 rbuels these are just things i remember him saying in the talk, i don't really understand them
19:49 * ende nods
19:50 ende as far as I can tell, it's something that plugs into your flatfile or relational database and lets you download subsets of that data in various formats / filtered in various ways
19:50 ende which is kinda cool
19:50 rbuels i don't think it plugs in, i had the impression that it was more like: you figure out how to shoehorn your stuff into it, and then you can use its web interface to 'mine' it
19:51 rbuels but i might be mistaken
20:00 rbuels reading the docs, sounds like the primary way to get things into it is to use martbuilder to import from another rdbms
20:00 rbuels s/rdbms/database/
20:05 deafferret "special generic"?  :)
20:10 * rbuels slaps deafferret's forehead
20:20 deafferret :)
20:20 deafferret not just any old generic!!
20:27 ende aye
20:27 ende so like... my Bio::DB::GFF database should be fairly easy for MartBuilder, right?
20:36 * rbuels shrugs
20:36 rbuels ende: never tried actually using it.  you have now reached the limits of my martbuilder knowledge
20:37 ende )
20:43 ende bioperl-bot translate ATC
20:43 bioperl-bot I
20:43 ende bioperl-bot translate ATCCTGGTCCCCATTATAGTGTAGTATC
20:43 bioperl-bot ILVPIIV*Y
20:44 ende good bot
20:44 ende not very useful bot, but good bot
20:44 deafferret bioperl-bot: bot snack
