16:51 deafferret (pronounced /ˈkæptʃə/)
16:51 deafferret :)
16:51 deafferret strangely, encoding failures don't remove any readability

21:24 driveby_bot rbuels is a loser
21:24 rbuels hahahaha
21:24 * rbuels waves at the clouds
21:26 rbuels oh, a link
21:26 pyrimidine joined #bioperl
21:26 rbuels look at that
21:26 * rbuels clicks on the link
21:26 pyrimidine link doesn't work yet (hasn't sync'ed)
21:28 rbuels ah, that syncing business is a drag
21:28 rbuels can't that be done in a post-commit hook like trac does it?
21:28 rbuels at least i think that's what trac does ...
21:29 rbuels lol, this is what you get for trying to make people happy.
21:29 rbuels more feature requests.
21:29 pyrimidine The post commit hook would work if dev.open-bio.org were visible, the public repo is on portal (I think)
21:30 pyrimidine I may just leave the 'rbuels is a loser' on the post-commit hook.  Always a good reminder....

21:31 driveby_bot rbuels wants this: http://code.open-bio.org/svnweb/index.cgi/bioperl/revision?rev=16789
21:32 rbuels any publicity is good publicity
21:33 rbuels ;-)
21:33 pyrimidine well, we almost have jason convinced we should go to git or google code (svn again), so maybe this won't be an issue much longer
21:33 rbuels don't settle for google code
21:34 rbuels stand your ground for git, i'll back you up
21:34 rbuels not that my opinion is worth that much, lol
21:34 pyrimidine You were there, though, at the sat. meeting.  Amounts to something.
21:35 pyrimidine ;-)
21:35 rbuels GMOD is moving to git in 2011.
21:35 rbuels i've moved up the year
21:35 rbuels hehehe
21:36 rbuels kicking and screaming, i will drag them
21:36 rbuels probably to wherever bioperl ends up hosting
21:36 rbuels i hate sourceforge so much it's insane
21:37 * rbuels goes back to work
21:37 rbuels thanks for the link generation!
21:38 pyrimidine np
21:42 * deafferret waves
21:42 * pyrimidine waves back
21:55 deafferret hmm... maybe the bot could just tag r16787 on the end, then respond to 'r16787?' with the full URL
21:56 deafferret http://code.open-bio.org/svnweb/index.cgi/bioperl/revision?rev=   in channel 50 times a day is pretty spammy
21:56 deafferret oh, it already has the r# in each post
21:56 rbuels spammy?
21:57 rbuels do you pay for your irc traffic by the byte or something?
21:57 deafferret Yes, Mr. Hormel.
21:57 * deafferret bits rbuels
21:57 deafferret oops
21:57 deafferret b i t e s
21:57 deafferret much better
21:57 deafferret maybe tinyurl.com link would be less annoying
21:58 deafferret whatever  /me shuts up
21:58 deafferret YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN

22:01 rbuels :-\
22:02 rbuels http://search.cpan.org/search?q=WWW%3A%3AShorten;s=1
22:03 pyrimidine no, just wanted to test whether this client can interpret tags (and that would be a NO)
22:03 pyrimidine will use the short URL, though

22:10 rbuels deafferret: now you happy?
22:11 rbuels curmudgeon.
22:11 pyrimidine :)
22:12 pyrimidine that first link works now, so the tinyurl one should work in the next 30 min or so.
22:12 pyrimidine :P
22:13 gwo_ joined #bioperl
22:13 rbuels now you should implement a SOAP service on dev.open-bio that's called by the commit hook to do the sync.  with full WSDL.
22:13 rbuels and then ...
22:13 deafferret ooo, I like the diff idea
22:14 rbuels oh oh.
22:14 rbuels The Cloud.
22:14 * pyrimidine puts fingers in ears, whistles, walks away...
22:14 rbuels you have to put it in The Cloud
22:14 * deafferret demands an OS X Widget.... that he'd never actually use
22:14 deafferret wut clowd?
22:15 rbuels The Cloud!!  I mean, duh!!
22:15 rbuels It's a total Game Changer
22:15 rbuels a Paradigm Shift!
22:15 pyrimidine we have too many clouds here.  I need sun!
22:15 pyrimidine (insert Oracle joke here)
22:16 rbuels oh ho ho
22:16 rbuels "I guess MySQL did too!"
22:16 rbuels erm.
22:16 * rbuels is lame
22:16 * pyrimidine nods
22:23 pyrimidine rbuels: do all the chado folk primarily use pg instead of mysql?  any reason not to use mysql?
22:24 rbuels mostly use pg cause it's historically been more 'serious' in terms of support for more advanced sql features
22:24 rbuels stored procedures, better transaction support, partial indexes. ...
22:24 rbuels views ...
22:24 rbuels mysql has a lot of those things now though i think
22:24 rbuels didn't used to.
22:25 pyrimidine yes, it does (at least 5.0).  I think 5.1 has more.
22:25 rbuels chado works in mysql though i think
22:26 rbuels i've never done it, but i think other people have
22:26 rbuels with BCS though, it certainly will.
22:26 pyrimidine I'm planning on trying it myself.
22:26 rbuels Bio::Chado::Schema->deploy()
22:26 pyrimidine yes, that's what I'm thinking
22:27 rbuels assuming DBIC's deploy works well
22:27 rbuels i've never actually used that either
22:28 pyrimidine worth a try.  if I run into issues you'll hear from me :-D
22:28 rbuels oh yes please do let me know how it goes
