13:21 JunY Hi, does anyone know which bioperl address I should use to "git clone"?
13:21 JunY git://github.com/bioperl/bioperl-live.git
13:21 JunY or git@github.com:bioperl/bioperl-live.git
13:21 JunY or git@github.com:yinjun111/bioperl-live.git
14:07 kai JunY: depends what repository you want
14:07 kyanardag_ joined #bioperl
14:07 kai JunY: the first is a read-only version, you probably don't want that
14:07 kai JunY: git@github.com:yinjun111/bioperl-live.git is your personal fork
14:08 kai JunY: git@github.com:bioperl/bioperl-live.git is the official branch
14:08 kai JunY: what I usually do is the following..
14:08 kai JunY: I clone the official branch, so that'll become my "origin" remote
14:09 kai JunY: then I "git remote add repo <url_of_my_fork>"
14:10 kai then, I push my work in progress into the "repo" remote (you're of course free to pick your own name), and once it's approved I push to the "origin" repo
14:10 kai this of course implies a workflow where you actually have commit rights on "origin"
14:11 kai but I still like to have the official upstream repository as "origin"

15:29 CIA-95 bioperl-live: Chris Fields master * r4ac37bb / (3 files in 3 dirs): Merge branch 'master' of github.com:bioperl/bioperl-live - http://bit.ly/dw61cK
15:38 JunY OK, i see
15:46 JunY Then when I should use something like "git push repo master" to upload my code to the github, right?
15:46 kblin yeah, assuming that repo is your github fork, you'll push master to your fork
15:47 JunY Then how can I submit my fork to the admin? or to the bioperl fork?
15:52 kblin hm? what are you trying to do?
15:52 JunY for example, I assume the work flow should be like this:
15:53 JunY First i clone the official bioperl branch
15:53 kblin right
15:54 JunY then I make my make my own branch, e.g. "mywork"... and work on it ... after it is all right. I push it the my online repo
15:55 JunY for example, "git push repo mywork"
15:56 kblin yeah. you might need to create it on github first, so (for the first push only) you need to "git push repo mywork:refs/heads/mywork"
15:56 kblin but in principle, yes, still with you so far :)
15:58 kblin if you want to get your code pulled in, send a pull request to the bioperl-live repo, or talk to your mentor :)
15:59 kblin assuming you are indeed a GSoC student :)
15:59 JunY yep, i am
16:00 JunY ok, i see. So next I should use "git push origin mywork"
16:00 JunY For example, origin is the official bioperl branch
16:01 JunY If I write "git push origin mywork", I guess the admin will see my request, right?
16:01 kblin er, no
16:01 kblin you do the requests via the github website
16:02 kblin "git push origin mywork" will try to push your mywork branch to the origin remote
16:02 kblin if you have write access, that'll work, otherwise it'll fail
16:03 kblin anyway, bbl, need to poke people with pointy metal sticks now
16:03 kblin aka. sports
16:04 JunY ok, good luck
16:05 JunY Thx kblin, i think I am almost there

16:17 Marc-Alexandre Hello, do you provide help for the package Bio::ASN1::EntrezGene or should I contact the package creator http://egparser.sourceforge.net/ ? I'm asking since Bio::ASN1::EntrezGene is not found in the BioPerl documentation. Thanks
