18:06 Topic for #bioperl is now Be patient!  Sometimes it takes a few minutes for people to notice your question! | http://bioperl.org/wiki/IRC#Getting_help | http://www.bioperl.org/wiki/Using_Git | nopaste to gist.github.com
20:05 * rbuels wonders where pytab went off to
20:27 pyrimidine rbuels: went to get some coffee
20:27 pyrimidine :)
20:28 rbuels pyrimidine: is it just me, or has the bioperl list been freakishly quiet the last couple days
20:28 * rbuels wonders if he's been kicked off of it
20:28 pyrimidine no, it's pretty quiet
20:28 rbuels also, my big blastogram announcing the gsoc students doesn't seem to have gone through
20:28 rbuels pyrimidine: did you see it go through to the bioperl list?
20:28 pyrimidine rbuels: I got that one
20:28 rbuels oh, maybe it did then
20:28 * rbuels shrugs
20:31 pyrimidine it tends to ebb and flow based on the academic calendar and holidays
20:34 pyrimidine rbuels: I think sheenams should probably introduce herself to the community somehow (mail list is probably the best way at the moment)
20:35 pyrimidine we already have ideas on how to split off things based on the proposal, just not sure how many devs have actually seen it
20:37 rbuels missile away
20:37 rbuels cced you
20:38 rbuels oh, i forgot to say 'good idea'
20:38 * rbuels chuckles
20:38 pyrimidine :)
20:39 pyrimidine basically it's building a 'battle plan' of sorts, but I don't think there'll be much in the way of resistance
20:39 pyrimidine seemed like most devs were supportive of the idea
20:40 pyrimidine I had wondered whether we should use 'git submodule' for any of this, but from what I've read it may be more a PITA than it's worth
20:42 rbuels i haven't used submodules yet
20:42 rbuels as i understand, they're basically static pointers to a certain SHA right?
20:43 rbuels those would be a pain to keep up to date
20:44 pyrimidine rbuels: yes, I think they would, and might be more confusing than it's worth
20:47 philsf left #bioperl
20:50 pyrimidine would be nice to work out a way to bundle the various dists for devs, though, something submodule is capable of.  That's the only criticism I can think of (that we'll have to clone each repo), but that's probably necessary anyway
20:51 rbuels only have to clone the repo you're working on.
20:51 rbuels like any other cpan module.
21:00 pyrimidine rbuels: right, and that's sort of the way I think this should be sold
21:00 pyrimidine e.g. 'there is no need to check out everything, just what you are interested in developing'
