10:16 jkerssem hi everyone
10:16 jkerssem I had a quick question
10:16 jkerssem what kind of editors are you using to program the CDK?
10:16 jkerssem this out of curiosity
10:18 egonw eclipse
10:22 jkerssem cool, that would match my current setup :)
10:23 jkerssem which saves me from either of the trouble to learn a second editor to be consistent with the CDK team, or the trouble to convert cdk-projects to eclipse-projects
10:24 jkerssem I'm just now trying to import the CDK git repo into an eclipse project
10:24 jkerssem which triggered my curiosity
10:28 egonw the git repos contains the .project
10:28 egonw so you can just import it, and everything should be fine
10:29 jkerssem yes, I think that's what happened
10:29 jkerssem I used EGit to import from the SF repo
10:30 jkerssem and all the folders etc are configured
10:30 jkerssem including different source folders for src/main and src/test
10:30 egonw good
10:30 egonw feel to write up how you did that
10:30 egonw I think that would benefit the community
10:31 egonw I use git from the command line
10:31 egonw but yours is more friendly to new users
10:32 jkerssem I think I can do that, but I'd have no place to put it
10:32 jkerssem mind if I toss it to you when it's done?
10:32 egonw blog, blog, blog
10:32 jkerssem it's really simple in the end
10:32 egonw well, if you know what you need to do :)
10:33 jkerssem true dat
10:33 egonw other option than blog
10:33 jkerssem wiki?
10:33 egonw a short CDK News not
10:33 egonw e
10:33 egonw yes, a valid option too
10:33 egonw https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/cdk/index.php?title=Main_Page
10:33 jkerssem I'll write a short step-by-step first, then we can figure out where it should go :)
10:33 egonw ack
10:34 egonw I'd suggest a blog, but if you prefer the wiki, just let me know
10:34 egonw and I'll try to dig up how to get your wiki write permission :)
10:59 jkerssem The downside to me for a blog is that I'd have to set one up, and more importantly, maintain a (steady) stream of content
10:59 jkerssem maybe when the need becomes more evident
10:59 jkerssem I'll go for wiki tutorials for now :)
11:09 jkerssem quick question: what is the 147-lite branch?
11:10 jkerssem it exists in the CDK repo, along with cdk-1.2.x and master
11:12 egonw the official repo has changed
11:12 egonw github.com/cdk/cdk
11:23 jkerssem it has?
11:23 jkerssem oh
11:24 jkerssem so the SF ones mentioned on the SF-develop site (git://cdk.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/cdk/cdk) are no longer valid?
11:24 egonw ah, no, that one is fine too
11:24 egonw that's the official mirror
11:25 jkerssem hmm, okay
11:25 jkerssem I'll keep that one then
11:25 jkerssem no sense in also introducing github in a newbie-guide
11:25 jkerssem btw, when I've finished importing
11:26 jkerssem there's some 297 errors in the CDK project
11:26 jkerssem all about classes not being resolvable
11:26 jkerssem I'm looking into it, but maybe you know of this already?
11:31 jkerssem They all seem to stem from "SMARTSParser" being unresolvable
11:32 jkerssem which I guess has something to do with it being a SMARTSParser.jjt file
11:34 egonw sorry... bit distracted..
11:34 egonw trying to book a hotel for ACS Boston
11:34 egonw ah...
11:34 egonw run the ant target runDoclet
11:34 egonw ant runDoclet
11:35 egonw and refresh the workspace
11:37 jkerssem don't worry, having a place to sleep is important :)
11:40 jkerssem cool, that did it :)
12:29 jkerssem egonw, I just opened a minor bug and have made a patch for it (I think), where should the patch go? cdk-patch list? attached to the tracker? somewhere else?
12:29 jkerssem (bug: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&amp;aid=3032568&group_id=20024&atid=120024 )
12:42 egonw cdk-devel
12:42 egonw bug report + patch can go into the patch tracker too...
12:42 egonw if you put it in the patch tracker, you can mark it as needing review
12:43 egonw you can move a bug to the patch tracker
12:43 egonw without having to file a new report
12:43 egonw but you may not have permission for that
12:43 egonw mmm
12:43 egonw mom
12:50 egonw jkerssem: please try if you can change the 'Tracker' field from Bugs -> Patches
12:50 jkerssem ok
12:51 jkerssem sorry, it will only allow "No change"
12:51 egonw ok
12:51 egonw I'll move it then
12:51 jkerssem np
12:52 jkerssem It makes sense not to grant just anyone moving-trackeritems-around priveledges
12:59 egonw well... it's more administrative
12:59 egonw we believe in the goodness of people
13:00 egonw but we also need to set the proper priviliges :)
13:00 egonw that takes some effort
13:00 egonw you should have more tracker powers now
13:12 jkerssem nice, thanks :)
13:12 jkerssem I'll immediately try them out with my TemplateHandler patch(es) :)
13:17 slyrus joined #cdk
13:25 jkerssem cool, it seems I can assign bugs to people now
13:26 jkerssem but moving them between trackers still is beyond me
13:26 jkerssem but I can live with that :)
13:34 egonw :)
13:34 egonw well, you know now where something should go
13:41 egonw jkerssem: thanx for the second patches too...
13:41 egonw did not toroughly check them... but did leave two initial comments
14:37 jkerssem egonw, thanks for the pointers.
14:37 jkerssem how's the new thing look?
14:41 egonw new patches?
14:47 sneumann_ joined #cdk
14:59 jkerssem I uploaded an updated patch
15:00 jkerssem basically it's the the same patch, but without prior whitespace 'fix', and now formatted with git-format-patch
15:03 egonw that line should read as:
15:03 egonw whitespace changes are fine, as long as that particular line also has code changes
15:03 egonw the idea is, that any lines changed by the patch, must contain code changes
15:03 jkerssem ah, okay
15:04 egonw so, that the reviewer attention is focused on the code changes
15:04 jkerssem that I can understand
15:04 egonw and not on something else
15:04 egonw whitespace changes are fine, but:
15:04 egonw * must be in a separate patch with whitespace changes only
15:04 egonw * whitespace depends on user perspective... and who are you to disagree with the preferences of the original author
15:05 jkerssem good point that second one.
15:06 jkerssem man, working with other people is hard, they all have these strange preferences that are not my own ;-)
15:06 egonw :)
15:08 jkerssem ah well, I'll await further re-patches until people have had time to do a review
15:08 jkerssem better to do everything all-at-once
15:09 jkerssem and besides, it's grocery-doing-time now, my belly needs patching ;-)
15:09 jkerssem thanks again for the explanations, and see you tomorrow!
