17:08 pdurbin does anyone here use Software Collections? (scl) https://www.softwarecollections.org
17:09 bene yup
17:10 bene well, the rhel/centos ones anyway
17:10 pdurbin bene: I'm getting this: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lpython2.7
17:10 pdurbin even after I do `scl enable python27 bash`
17:10 pdurbin on CentOS 6
17:16 pdurbin bene: any ideas?
17:28 bear ld is the linker - do you have python's dev package installed
17:28 pdurbin yep. python27-python-devel-2.7.5-10.el6.x86_64
17:31 bear ah - looks like python's config tool returns the -l without a path - see the conversation in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1040065 for how they solved it for mysql
17:36 pdurbin bear: thanks! compiling now. I change it from...
17:36 pdurbin g++ `$(python)-config --ldflags` -pthread -shared $(objs) -o maptools.so
17:36 pdurbin to...
17:36 pdurbin g++ `$(python)-config --ldflags` -L/opt/rh/python27/root/usr/lib64 -pthread -shared $(objs) -o maptools.so
17:36 bear +1
17:36 pdurbin and now it works :)
17:36 bear sweet
17:37 pdurbin that was in the makefile
17:37 pdurbin before I was trying to set up the equivalent of /etc/ld.so.conf.d/mysql-x86_64.conf for python but I wasn't getting anywhere
17:38 bear yea, that method leads to madness IMO
17:39 bear because folks tend to only use half of the tools required for pkgconfig and ldconfig to inter-operate
17:41 bene and you end up with half dynamic info based on install path and package version and half hard-coded options in the configure script or makefile
17:41 bene building software on unix is awesome!
17:42 pdurbin heh
17:42 pdurbin it builds just fine on CentOS 7 which already has Python 2.7
