15:17 bene there are quite a few intermediate certs out in the world
15:26 pdurbin oh
15:42 bene yeah, SSL is better than plain text, but it's not near as secure as it could be
15:43 bene pakistan and china have NICs in the root trust store, e.g.
15:44 hydrajump the whole CA thing is broken as I understand it
15:51 bene that's another way of putting it :-)
15:51 bene use the https everywhere addon
15:52 bene it may not save you from a bad cert, but the weirdos get reported to the EFF and will be noticed
15:56 hydrajump bene: yep already got it as well as ublock origin
16:09 bene ad-blocking is more like a security requirement than anything these days
16:09 bene ad networks are the worst
16:09 dotplus SSL is badly broken. IFF you keep your lists of ciphers/protocols up to date, you can be reasonably sure of maintaining secrecy between you & the endpoint. endpoint auth is basically non-existent in any formal fashion.
16:09 bene what's that joke about ad networks looking a lot like malware C&C servers
16:16 hydrajump bene: absolutely. malvertising is a serious issue. Just take forbes as an example serving state sponsored drive by malware
