15:15 dotplus my thoughts on laptops: please, please can we can have a sturdy (as in long-lived hardware, where long > 4 years (!), not as in ruggedized), with linux drivers (esp. nic/wifi, lid/whatever-activated suspend/resume & other power mgmt-fu, gfx to drive builtin + 2 external screens) that I can cram full of memory (32+?), has "old" standard ports like rj45 + audio in/out as well whatever the modern shiny is (T3/USB3mumble).
15:16 dotplus notably, I want it to work correctly and keep working and I don't want to have to get a gamer machine that is all glammed up and has crazy 3d video hardware specs that I care nothing for.
15:21 dotplus because my use case for computing is basically characterised by vim+ssh, VMs, *lots* of browser tabs/instances, complex networking (multi-VPN and ssh tunnels) and a whole lot of "get orf my lawn"

19:33 hydrajump finally got a new irc client setup https://github.com/mephux/komanda-cli
19:34 hydrajump ^^ that's what I'm using instead of weechat.
19:34 hydrajump very bare bones
19:48 larsks hydrajump, what do you like about that vs weechat?
20:01 hydrajump larsks: honestly it was time to create a new AWS instance for my persistent irc client and I've wanted to try that client since I learnt of it. I like that it's written in golang and the author works in infosec.
20:01 larsks Neat.  I recently switched from weechat back to hexchat because I got tired of hacking around long urls :)
20:02 hydrajump yeah i hated everytime a url was cut off and I had to copy paste in part
20:03 larsks I used a url-shortener plugin, but it was still kind of ugly.  hexchat isn't too bad, as x clients go.
20:03 hydrajump don't know how well it works with this client. I haven't received any long urls yet :P
20:03 hydrajump of course weechat has a much larger user base and more eyeballs developing etc, but I'll give this a shot for a bit.
20:04 hydrajump I submitted some feature requests/bugs to the author a little earlier and got a reply saying he'll try to add what he can this weekend
20:04 hydrajump it's really easy to install/use because it's a single binary and single config file
20:04 larsks I will add it to my list of "things at which I should look at one of these days"
20:05 hydrajump not that installing weechat is particularly hard., although config can be a pain
20:06 hydrajump for instance it doesn't support SASL so your host's public ip is exposed if you auto join channels

22:52 pdurbin hydrajump larsks: wow, I didn't know others here were suffering from the "Can't click long links" issue I list under "to fix" at http://wiki.greptilian.com/weechat ... I was hoping it was fixed in more modern weechat that whatever I have on Ubuntu 14.04.
