19:56 melodie hello everyone
19:56 melodie hi pdurbin !
20:25 prologic joined #crimsonfu
20:47 pdurbin how's it going, melodie ?
20:47 pdurbin First snowfall in Boston. We just decorated our Christmas tree. :)
20:48 pdurbin who's commavir? welcome!
21:34 melodie pdurbin nice! We've had a few drops of snow here too but now we see it only on the mountains (which are really close, say, one hour to one and a half hour drive)
21:35 melodie pdurbin I have a question, for a guy who asked, at the forum linuxvillage : do you think it's possible to use faceted search to search the content of some RSS feeds displayed on a website?
21:37 pdurbin melodie: sure, but the first step would be to index the content of the RSS feeds into a search engine that supports faceted search such as Solr or Elasticsearch.
21:41 melodie ok, I'll tell him and then he can tell the dev or their structure
21:41 melodie it's an administrative place
21:42 melodie I'll point to the log. :)
21:46 pdurbin sounds good
21:46 melodie done. It's private message, I guess he'll get it at somepoint within a few days.
21:47 melodie They use the CMS Wordpress and a quick search on the web shows there is a plugin going by the name "Solr", and some related to Elastic Search
21:48 melodie I guess a good dev can bring them to talk together
21:51 pdurbin melodie: oh, we had a Wordpress question recently. Let me go find it.
21:52 pdurbin melodie: what do you think of this? A question about Wordpress compatibility with our widget: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/4357
21:55 melodie pdurbin on a developer point of view, which I am not : WordPress is coded with php and makes use of javascript and other js related codes. I suggest you would ask questions at #wordpress where there are a few devs
21:55 melodie here on freenode
21:58 pdurbin melodie: that's a good idea. I'll wait until I'm "on the clock". :)
21:58 melodie there are people from all over the world there, so you try when it suits you
22:00 pdurbin Sure. Wordpress is quite popular.
22:06 pdurbin melodie: out of curiosity, do you go to any open source conferences? I asked about going to FOSDEM but there isn't enough money in the budget.
22:14 melodie aha, in which country would you like to attend floss conferences?
22:14 melodie I don't know about them, but I could ask someone who might
22:32 pdurbin melodie: oh, any country is fine as long as someone else is paying to fly me there and pay for a hotel. :) The nice folks in #opensourcedesign seem to really like FOSDEM: https://discourse.opensourcedesign.net/t/call-for-participation-open-source-design-devroom-at-fosdem-2018/363
22:34 melodie as you mention not enough money in the budget, I'd suppose it's your administration budget, so what would it be?
22:35 melodie We already had the "Capitole du Libre" in Toulouse, I don't know where the World Free Software Meeting will be next year "aka "Rencontres Mondiales du Logiciel Libre"
22:36 melodie pdurbin I just found a large list here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free-software_events
22:36 melodie :)
22:42 pdurbin nice list
23:00 melodie perhaps you'll find there a conference that suits you and the budget as well. There is one about devs in the list
23:00 melodie not sure when and where though
23:10 pdurbin I went to JavaOne in San Francisco about two months ago. It's not an open source conference but I gave a talk about how to run an open source project. :)
23:14 melodie ok!
23:18 pdurbin I also wrote an article recently about transparency in open source projects. At this point it's basically a blog post but it's going to be included in a book soon.
23:50 melodie Oh very good!
23:51 melodie this is a real problem, when a company acts wrongly towards others and take all the fame related to open source
23:51 melodie I could quote one, but I'm not sure I should
23:53 melodie gn
