11:40 morans apache mod_speling and darcs don't seem to get along...
11:40 ^self heh
11:40 eivuokko Hehe
11:40 ^self does anyone really need mod_speling?
11:40 morans self: i keep it on my server as a fun hack
11:41 morans self: but I have a different virtual host for darcs stuff now so it isn't really a problem... it just happened to be on by default
11:41 morans kinda neat for my photo album when i can't remember how to spell place names and stuff
11:41 eivuokko That's pretty common mistake
11:42 eivuokko (to have mod_speling)
11:42 eivuokko Nothing much we can on darcs side.
12:21 xerox Hello (-:
12:21 xerox Why is it needed darcs on the server if one wants to do darcs push to it?
12:21 Heffalump because it executes darcs remotely
12:21 xerox Is it possible to do something like that, but without the remote darcs?
12:29 idnar_ possibly push to a local repo, and then rsync that to the server
12:29 xerox rsync, I see.
12:29 idnar_ if you just want to mirror your local repo, you don't really need an extra local repo
12:29 xerox The remote darcs execution is needed to check what are the differences right?
12:30 idnar no, the remote darcs execution is to apply the patches to the remote repo
12:30 xerox Ah-ha!
12:30 idnar for "checking the differences", I think it just needs to download the inventory, which is a simple file access
12:31 xerox That's what I thought initially
12:32 Korusef or you can be cought in the infamous exp bug
12:33 xerox An internal option to --push-hard (in the sense of overwrite the remote repo) would be cool, I think, if one doesn't have rsynch...
12:36 eivuokko A c/python/perl app to implement "patch" and inventory update as darcs apply.
12:36 elg anyone have a recent static-built darcs for osx?
12:37 xerox eivuokko: that's an idea too
12:38 eivuokko If I wanted to write c, python or perl, I might do it for fun.  But I dislike writing those :) *hint*
12:38 eivuokko And anyway, there' static builds of darcs for many platforms.
12:38 xerox Mac Intel too? (-:
12:38 eivuokko Ah
12:39 eivuokko Might need little bit ghc porting work
12:40 ^self "little bit"
12:41 eivuokko Well http://www.haskell.org//pipermail/cvs-ghc/2005-June/025451.html
12:41 eivuokko There's push on it, someone was/is doing the other day
13:35 kowey elg: have you tried the one on darcs wiki?
13:39 elg sorry, forgot to mention that i tried that yesterday but the site was down. looks up now though, but this concerns me: "
13:39 elg PS: There has been a report of binaries not working on 10.4.2. Some commands seemed to work, but generated wrong results. So, keep an eye open.
13:39 elg "
13:39 elg I'm on 10.4.3 I think
13:40 ^self 10.4.5 here.  built my own binaries, though.  if you think they'll work for you, i can put them on the net when i get home tonight.
13:42 elg ah, I'm 10.4.6. do you think I need yours or would the one at http://el-tramo.be/software/darcs-ppc-static work for me?
15:48 elg my brother is behind a poor network connection and seeing very bad timing. darcs push -a with no patches to push takes more than a minute. he's got about 100 patches
15:48 elg the same thing for me, with a good (local) network connection takes 3 seconds
15:48 elg the only thing we can guess is that darcs is making a new ssh connection for each patch?
15:49 C-Keen elg: newer versions use the master connection feature of ssh
15:49 elg we're using 1.0.6
15:49 elg newer than that?
15:49 C-Keen yes
15:50 C-Keen Sat Mar 18 00:33:37 CET 2006  Eric Kow <eric.kow@loria.fr>
15:50 C-Keen  * Multiplex transactions over a single ssh connection (issue32).
15:50 C-Keen  Eliminates the need to type your password a million times.  This
15:50 C-Keen  requires a recent version of OpenSSH with the ControlMaster feature, but
15:50 C-Keen  it is harmless if you do not have it.
15:50 zooko In the meantime, adding a tag and optimize --reorder on both sides might (??) help.
15:51 C-Keen zooko: maybe he can just pull in this patch?
15:52 elg well if I'm going to build darcs I might as well go with the latest
15:52 elg maybe I can get the debian maintainer to pull that patch though
16:52 zooko http://www.eros-os.org/pipermail/e-lang/2006-May/011218.html
16:52 zooko ^-- The E project discusses using a revision control tool, Zooko advocates darcs
16:54 arete neat, how's E doing these days? I haven't looked at it in years
16:58 zooko Mark Miller's PhD dissertation is out.
16:59 zooko "Robust Composition"
17:01 idnar that "Zooko" guy is pretty cool
17:01 arete available on the net anywherE? a quick google doesn't show much
17:02 zooko http://erights.org/talks/thesis/index.html
17:04 arete cool, thanks!
17:04 arete I've been doing some erlang work lately and remembering my experiments with distributed E
17:18 zooko There is a new implementation of E, implemented in Lisp.
17:18 zooko This pleases me because one of my least favorite things about E is that it smells of Java.
17:19 arete hmm awesome, CL?
17:45 tonyg Any comments on http://bugs.darcs.net/issue165 ?
18:04 tuomov darcs setpref test?
18:04 tuomov it doesn't do exactly the same thing, but if actual patch tests are needed, shouldn't they be done similarly to this?
18:05 tuomov perhaps even this test should receive the patch file as argument
18:05 tuomov an advantage of setpref is that the test propagates to other repositories
18:07 tonyg tuomov, the patch implements a setprev
18:07 tonyg checking a patch is a bit different to testing the whole codebase
18:13 tonyg as in, you may want to do neither, either or both
18:16 tuomov yeah, well, I guess making a copy of the codebase is bit too expensive if you only want to check the patch
18:17 tonyg I plan on calling (something similar to) checkpatch from "apply", too - and then I'll have all the ingredients needed to straightforwardly poke comments into bugzilla's longdesc table on commits
18:18 tonyg I liked the wrapper-script that was sent through to the darcs-user mailing list in response to my question the other day
19:40 emptystring hi there,
19:40 emptystring does anyone have experience with darcs on windows.
19:40 emptystring I kind of managed to get the patched tortoisecvs running, but it will only pull things it has pushed itself. pulling new files via cvs doesn't seem to work. Are there other windows clients. I have some simple minded friends I need to share a repo with.
19:40 emptystring sorry vie ssh i meant
19:44 emptystring c'mon some suggestions...
20:24 kpreid_ arete: if you want to hear about E-on-CL feel free to drop by #erights :)
23:27 Jerub does the dance of conflict resolution
