08:27 MasseR Can darcs bisect/backoff handle situations where working is newer than not working?
08:30 Heffalump I don't think so
08:31 Heffalump well, you can just flip the sense of "working" and "not working"
08:31 MasseR Duh

15:58 gh_ good news, cabal 1.16 supports the -j flag, which enables parallel compilation.
15:58 gh_ bad news, cabal-dev does not yet support it.

18:19 gh_ Heffalump, we meet tomorrow at ~ 10 AM at IRILL.
18:20 gh_ Heffalump, Sylvestre Ledru (our contact at IRILL) will be there in the afternoon, but we can go during morning without problem. The room for the first day is at the 3rd floor. For Saturday and Sunday we will have a bigger room (salle Algorithmique).
18:20 gh_ Heffalump, if you people want to go to IRILL before 10, no problem...
18:20 gh_ Heffalump, tomorrow's room is "Salle Protocole"
18:21 gh_ Heffalump, I have to leave now, see you

19:04 byorgey if you manage the pony, then I'd also like a properly functioning darcs-bridge =)

19:15 Heffalump we'll give Florent the pony job
19:15 Heffalump that'll keep owst free to work on the bridge :-)

21:59 Kindaro Good evening gentlemen. I came in hopes that I may gain an answer to the following question: By which algorithm does darcs get to know that the repository being initialized is or is not nested?
21:59 Kindaro Should it be that darcs searches the whole uplying tree?
22:00 Kindaro (By tree, meaning filesystem hierarchy.)
22:09 Kindaro Thanks in advance for your answers.
22:10 Heffalump it just walks up looking for _darcs
22:10 Heffalump and will refuse to initialise a nested repository
22:13 shlevy joined #darcs
22:16 donri shlevy: and besides the need to 'cd' and recreate or copy build artifacts, branching with darcs is no harder than with git (arguably easier in some aspects because easy cherry picking and fully history aware merging)
22:17 donri like you can move a whole directory and merge older patches to the moved files
22:17 donri i have no idea what git would do in that situation
22:20 donri or use 'replace' to rename an identifier and merge patches that use the old name. don't know of any other system that supports this?
22:20 owst joined #darcs
22:22 * owst is in Paris!
22:23 donri salute
22:23 Heffalump Bonjour
22:23 Kindaro ca va donc? =)
22:23 Heffalump ca va bien
22:25 Kindaro however, refutal of initialization is not the case in my present system. I actually made a repo in ~ for the purpose of keeping track on .bash* and other configuration files that abide there.
22:26 Kindaro Now I am bound to suffer the WARNING every time I create a new project in ~/code.
22:26 donri i use a makefile and symlinks to manage dotfiles
22:26 Heffalump Kindaro: does it warn or fail, then? I thought it refused to do it.
22:27 mizu_no_oto joined #darcs
22:28 Kindaro Donri: In which way, specifically?
22:28 Kindaro Heffalump: it warns but obeys neverless.
22:29 donri Kindaro: my old setup with git https://github.com/dag/dotfiles
22:29 Kindaro I wonder what evil may the stated practice bring upon me in the future. So far I can't see any.
22:30 Heffalump if it only warns, then it should be fine.

22:44 Heffalump Kindaro: beware of doing something like darcs record --look-for-adds though!
23:05 idnar joined #darcs
23:28 donri Kindaro: well darcs will refuse to add files outside the repo but if you have forgotten to darcs init it will use the $HOME repo regardless of $CWD
23:28 donri so you can mess up the $HOME repo, but i don't think you could mess up repos inside $HOME
