09:15 Kindaro Good day sirs. I'm using darcs for the humble purpose of managing different sorts of field notes. I came up with an obvious idea of automatically recording a patch every night and I wonder if it's not as good as it seems to me.
09:16 Kindaro I mean a new patch with a different name, not amend-record. Thus allowing to check the state of things in a given date.
09:17 Kindaro What are possible bad sides?
09:17 donri Kindaro: for something like personal notes (?) i'm not sure there are any important ones
09:18 donri for collaborating on code and such you might prefer clean feature-oriented patches
09:19 Kindaro Thank you.
09:19 Kindaro Personal notes, yes.
09:22 donri Kindaro: are you going to be doing branches yourself?
09:30 Kindaro Not sure I got your question. Emphasis on "doing" or on "myself"?
09:31 Kindaro In any way, probably gonna be doing and probably myself.
09:32 donri Kindaro: i mean maintaininang separate repos and pulling between them
09:32 donri i imagine autorecorded patches may be more prone to conflicts
09:33 Kindaro Because..?

09:40 donri duno!
09:43 Heffalump Kindaro: you might find you've made random changes to the file that you wouldn't necessarily have recorded by hand - e.g. whitespace

15:08 epta How can I install darcs in ubuntu? http://hpaste.org/83395
15:08 mizu_no_oto joined #darcs
15:13 saep sudo apt-get install darcs
15:13 saep i suppose
15:14 epta saep: with cabal
15:14 epta Look in the paste, I don't get this error
15:27 gal_bolle epta: do you want the latest version, or any darcs?
15:27 gal_bolle apt-get install darcs should be good enough if you don't want to hack on darcs itself
15:48 lelit joined #darcs
16:26 epta gal_bolle: I want to install it with cabal-install
16:41 amgarchIn9 joined #darcs
16:42 Heffalump epta: I pasted the C program it's trying to compile - could you see what happens when you compile that?
16:43 epta Pasted?
16:43 epta Ah, in annotation
16:44 mizu_no_oto joined #darcs
16:44 epta Heffalump: How should I compile that?
17:36 Kindaro joined #darcs
17:47 Heffalump epta: put it in a file iconv.c and then do gcc -c iconv.c

18:17 donri joined #darcs
18:25 epta Heffalump: I remove that doublequotes escapes and it compiles well

21:58 kerneis_ Kindaro: looks like you are planning to do etckeeper, with a darcs backend (that etckeeper supports iirc), but for ~/notes instead of /etc
21:59 kerneis might be worth having a look at http://joeyh.name/code/etckeeper/ to avoid reinventing some wheels
22:00 kerneis (ok, etckeeper does much more, since it hooks up into package managers)

22:24 Heffalump epta: hmm, confused about what cabal's problem is then
22:26 epta :[
22:40 Heffalump can you paste the output of dpkg -l | grep curl?
22:40 Heffalump that is 'dpkg -l | grep curl' without the ''
23:05 schlaftier joined #darcs
23:59 Kindaro kerneis, thx
