09:00 madjestic hey guys, does darcs hun support dsa.pub keys?
09:01 madjestic I am getting some news on id_rsa.pub keys encryption system being compromised, I wonder if DSA is the way to go at the moment?
09:01 madjestic *darcs hun -> darccs hub

09:35 madjestic nevermind. Further reading reveals that 128bit encryption is being compromised.  Default is 2048bit, which makes me wonder who is using 128bit encytion these days?  Anyhow, sorry for offtopic

13:34 owst Heffalump: see my fork of darcs-utils on hub.darcs.net: http://hub.darcs.net/ganesh/darcs-utils/patches I've made darcs-utils build against darcs HEAD and have added a "contextless-apply" that takes a dpatch and blindly attempts to apply the patches within it
13:35 owst I wanted it since I record-obliterated a WIP patch, and then amended some other patches, such that the wip patch didn't apply. The tool is a hack to apply it
13:35 owst I could have used rebase I'm sure, but I didn't :-)

17:53 sm warts and all, I sure do love the simplicity of darcs sometimes
17:55 sm I like that I can do darcs push --dry -v and find a patch by searching its content
17:56 sm and I didn't have to look up the usage
17:56 mtp every time i try to read git's manpages i cry a little
17:56 mtp 'darcs help' makes me smile inside
17:57 sm git tip: -h is often more useful than --help
17:57 mtp except when it's not
17:57 sm sure
17:58 Heffalump :-)

18:07 sm hmm.. darcs 2.8.1 push seems to say it supports --to-patch, but doesn't
18:08 sm same with --to-match

18:15 raichoo hm, wondering if there is something like "git clean" for darcs. The rosetta stone does not mention anything.
18:16 Heffalump does that clean out untracked changes and new files?
18:16 raichoo yep
18:16 Heffalump if so, I use darcs rec -al followed by darcs obliterate
18:17 sm nice
18:17 raichoo hm, looks like darcs could need a clean command ^^. (digs into the code) ^^
18:18 Heffalump I would do it by adding --look-for-adds to revert, I think
18:18 Heffalump (and then perhaps an alias for friendliness to users of other VCSes)
18:19 Heffalump ah, git clean only cleans unknown files, not changes to known files
18:19 Heffalump so that's a bit different
18:19 sm I'd have guessed darcs clean would remove non-essential buildup under _darcs
18:19 Heffalump or "darcs gc" for that
18:19 raichoo Why not darcs clean?
18:19 Heffalump (not sure if it makes sense to conflate the two or not)
18:20 raichoo Just curious
18:20 Heffalump raichoo: why not "darcs clean" for what?
18:20 raichoo gc sounds odd
18:20 raichoo cleaning out unknown files.
18:20 Heffalump (my train is arriving, I'll be back online later)
18:20 raichoo ok
18:20 raichoo take care
18:20 Heffalump because revert already exists to do something quite similar
18:20 raichoo ok
18:20 raichoo --look-for-add sure makes sense
18:21 raichoo I'll look into the code and hack on it if no one has anything against it.

18:38 Heffalump http://darcs.net/Development/NewFeature is the review process new features get - adding an existing flag to an existing command is generally less intrusive than adding a new command

18:53 raichoo Heffalump: Ok, bookmarked. I'm currently reformatting the Revert.hs file a bit. I hope this does not look too much like bikeshedding but I found it pretty hard to read.
19:11 Heffalump raichoo: that's fine. Keep it in a separate patch(es) frmo functionality, of course. I think there might be some style guidance somewhere that people are following when tidying up code, but not sure where off the top of my head
19:13 raichoo Heffalump: Wondering if putting this info revert is a good idea. Revert not added files would be an unsafe operation unless those files are unrevertable.
19:18 raichoo Putting it there would make revert do something that is irreversible which I find quite confusing.
19:18 Heffalump they could be put into unrevert, but the downside is that they might be very large
19:18 raichoo indeed, they might be compiled binaries etc
19:18 Heffalump (that's also a downside of my workaround of darcs rec -al ; darcs obliterate)
19:20 Heffalump raichoo: hmm, I'm also not sure of the correct approach now :-)
19:20 raichoo Me neither ^^
19:20 raichoo I know adding a new command is always controversial ^^
19:21 raichoo maybe it's something to put into obliterate.
19:21 Heffalump I wonder about darcs revert -l --no-unrevert (i.e. two flags)
19:21 Heffalump and then darcs clean as an alias
19:21 raichoo But I'm unsure about that as well.
19:21 Heffalump I don't think it belongs in obliterate, that doesn't currently affect working
19:21 raichoo indeed.
19:21 raichoo hm
19:22 raichoo Heffalump: I think that alias approach could make sense.
19:23 raichoo you could put unadded files into undo if you really want that.
19:23 raichoo some people might want to use that as some kind of quick and dirty git-stash
19:24 Heffalump yeah, people already do that
19:24 Heffalump though obliterate -O is a better choice nowadays
19:24 Heffalump or obliterate -o, I can never remember which :-)
19:25 raichoo Oh, I didn't know that.
19:25 raichoo nice.
19:25 raichoo Note to self: read more pages.
19:25 raichoo manpages that is ^^

20:02 raichoo Heffalump: I'll hack on this on friday. But I think I've got a hold of the basic project and code structure.
20:02 raichoo Thanks a bunch for the help ^^
