11:56 gh_ hi
11:57 owst hi gh_
12:02 gh_ jose's patience patch looks better, I going to use it a little before accepting (maybe tomorrow)
12:03 gh_ I'd like to make darcs's empty commit file ( http://lpaste.net/90952 ) look more like git ( http://lpaste.net/90951 ) or fossil's ones ( http://lpaste.net/91206 )
12:04 owst gh_: yes, +1
12:04 gh_ and refuse empty patch names, as other systems do

13:37 gh_ owst, this is what I'm about to send: http://lpaste.net/7570295255551967232
13:39 owst gh_: Nice, I like it.
14:14 sm darnit.. spiders all over my dev instance. I shouldn't have put the url here
14:14 * sm moves to :8902
14:14 gh_ :)
14:18 bfrank what does it take to use the fast-convert stuff?
14:19 owst bfrank: more information. Which VCS?
14:20 bfrank git
14:23 sm owst: I see it's "Almost buildable against Darcs 2.7.3" ?
14:23 sm does that mean it doesn't build with current darcs 2.8 ?
14:24 sm I don't remember having trouble
14:24 * owst is slightly confused what sm means
14:24 owst where is that quote from?
14:24 mizu_no_oto joined #darcs
14:24 sm I mean your change at http://hub.darcs.net/mornfall/darcs-fastconvert/changes
14:24 owst bfrank: repo with branches?
14:24 owst I doubt I'd have a change there... :-s
14:24 sm must be your evil twin
14:24 owst Ah, I do, from > 2 years ago! :-)
14:26 bfrank I think it has some branches
14:26 owst In that case, no, sorry
14:27 owst I need to do some more work before that's possible
14:27 bfrank I guess I will have to manually convert it
14:27 bfrank with record --pipe
14:27 owst Well, it depends,
14:27 owst do you want to keep the git repo and keep using it?
14:27 bfrank it isn't my repo, I just want to mirror it in darcs
14:27 owst But you want to push patches between darcs and git?
14:27 bfrank no
14:27 owst Oh
14:27 owst That'll work then
14:27 bfrank I just want to pull changes from git into darcs
14:28 owst Oh
14:28 owst Umm
14:28 sm it's easy: you can convert one branch to one darcs repo
14:28 owst Or you can just get git to export as one branch
14:28 owst git fast-export master
14:28 owst or somesuch
14:30 sm yes, some variation of: git fast-export master | (cd ../darcsrepo; darcs fastconvert import)
14:30 owst Yep
14:31 bfrank crap
14:31 bfrank I guess that means I need the darcs-screened
14:31 owst Ok, next week, I promise to have a copy of darcs-bridge that can do everything darcs-fastconvert can do.
14:31 bfrank darcs 2.8.4 doesn't have a fastconvert
14:31 owst bfrank: you're out of luck really, I'm afraid
14:31 sm bfrank: darcs-fastconvert, not darcs fastconvert. It's a separate tool
14:31 owst Until next week
14:31 sm alas
14:31 owst darcs-fastconvert won't build
14:32 sm I built it. Maybe I used an old ghc ?
14:32 owst and darcs-bridge needs screened and might break
14:32 owst :-s
14:32 owst Anyway, /me -> work
14:34 sm yes, darcs-fastconvert builds best with ghc 7.0.2. You need to install that GHC version (it won't hurt your main one) and then cabal install darcs-fastconvert -w ghc-7.0.2
14:35 sm it'll use the older darcs that it needs (2.5.2)
14:42 owst gh_: It might be nice to interactively ask for a name if an empty one is given? Otherwise the user looses their (carefully) chosen patch
14:43 gh_ owst, so you mean looping until a name is provided?
14:43 owst Yeah, I suppose?
14:43 gh_ I was thinking that maybe it was too strict to ask for non-empty names
14:43 owst I wonder if you can match an empty name?
14:45 gh_ in that loop? or in general (with `darcs changes` for instance)?
14:46 gh_ owst, specifying an empty name can also simply a way of consciously abort
14:46 owst The latter
14:46 owst Yeah.
14:46 gh_ owst, otherwise how can you abord
14:46 gh_ *abort?
14:46 owst I suppose it's easy to accidentally enter empty string
14:46 owst gh_: ctrl-c?
14:46 raichoo joined #darcs
14:49 gh_ yes
14:50 gh_ git, fossil, and mercurial use emptiness to abort
14:50 gh_ hmm ok wait my patch is bad :-)
14:51 gh_ record -m "" fails after hunk selection
14:51 owst gh_: Fair enough then, but I think if `darcs rec -m ''` is given, darcs should fail immediately
14:52 gh_ owst, or call the editor, as mercurial does
14:52 bfrank_ joined #darcs
14:53 owst gh_: yeah, that's a good option
15:02 gh_ pff..
15:03 mtp xbatx
15:03 mtp whoops
15:10 gh_ time to leave, bye

18:39 gh_ or, how do you generate them
18:52 jlneder I really didn't know what could be a good test case so i try a little bit of everything i found... i can upload to the repo some examples, if you like.
