21:27 Heffalump hi - want to do a quick update?
21:27 bsrk Yes
21:29 bsrk So, I have started on patch bundles
21:29 bsrk You can now upload and apply bundles
21:29 Heffalump is that deployed on your test instance?
21:29 bsrk Yes
21:29 bsrk Just no links
21:30 * Heffalump will try it
21:30 Heffalump what's the story with the repo compare stuff? Did you discuss it with sm?
21:30 bsrk :user/:repo/new-bundle
21:31 bsrk :user/:repo/bundle/:number
21:31 bsrk For uploading/ <see, apply> a bundle respectivily
21:32 bsrk So, I also worked on some of sm's suggestions last week
21:32 Heffalump does darcs send from a client just work?
21:32 bsrk Ah, I don't think so.
21:32 Heffalump that's very important (at least to me :-)
21:32 bsrk I do see the utility
21:33 bsrk So yeah bundles is unfinished
21:34 bsrk with send, viewing a patch in detail, attaching it it a issue remaining
21:34 Heffalump is your todo list up to date?
21:35 bsrk I update just before starting on the task. :-|
21:36 Heffalump and your blog? :-)
21:37 bsrk Oh, another one is due already.
21:37 bsrk Tomorrow then.
21:37 bsrk which is today
21:37 bsrk for me
21:37 Heffalump it would be good to see some walkthroughs of using new features
21:39 bsrk that's time consumy stuff. Can we really afford that?
21:40 Heffalump I guess it's not essential, but it would be good for your own personal development to do it
21:42 Heffalump the repository compare stuff is a good example of something where I think the use cases really need to be communicated
21:43 Heffalump because it doesn't seem obvious how it relates to the existing "fork ok" feature
21:44 sm hi guys, what's "fork ok" ?
21:44 bsrk I think he mean the branches page
21:44 bsrk means
21:44 Heffalump yes, sorry :-)
21:45 Heffalump btw on the subject of bundles, the other long-term goal in my mind for bundles is to replace the existing darcs patch tracker and also to replace full-blown forks
21:45 sm it seems like it (a) extends that page to work with arbitrary repos on the site and (b) adds more info - local, remote, and common patches
21:46 sm I'd be inclined to add compare the branches page and focus on improving one page rather than two
21:47 sm what do you guys think ? also what pain point are we solving here ?
21:48 bsrk I dont understand what "add compare the branches page" means.
21:48 Heffalump do forks already tell you about what upstream patches need to be pulled down?
21:48 sm sorry: "add the compare feature to the branches page"
21:48 Heffalump for me a crucial pain point of forks is the lack of a "reparent" operation
21:49 sm that's very close, just need to make that field in repo settings writable
21:49 konundra joined #darcs
21:49 sm it could use bsrk's compare repo select form
21:49 sm and I agree, that would be valuable - we could then organise branches better
21:51 bsrk Currently, the basic patch display layout is being shared by three features
21:51 bsrk compare, branches, and bundles
21:52 bsrk and it does sort of make sense to provide the compare link in branches page only.
21:52 bsrk is that what you mean?
21:52 sm yes
21:53 bsrk Okay, I'll move the link
21:54 sm I see it as a special case of browsing related repos, not a primary top-level feature that would be used often
21:56 bsrk sm: yeah, the user ought to try branches first.
21:57 sm I think the branches page (whatever we call it) should be able to show and compare with: original parent, current upstream, current downstream, possibly-related, or user-specified repos
21:59 sm and current upstream should be settable in repo settings (or possibly also on the branches page)
22:00 sm that would give a pretty decent amount of organising power and visibility
22:01 bsrk heffalump, sm: can we call it quits? I want to go back to sleep. :-)
22:01 sm very open other proposals also
22:01 sm fine with me, must be late there!
22:01 bsrk Oh, one thing first. Are you two able to run the webdriver tests?
22:01 * sm has not got around to setting that up yet
22:01 Heffalump I'm afraid I forgot to keep trying on Windows
22:02 Heffalump I'll have a go on Linux
22:02 Heffalump anyway, yes, go back to sleep :-)
22:02 bsrk bye
22:02 sm thanks bsrk, see you
