06:10 * Heffalump reappears
06:11 Heffalump notdan: btw, I think more than 3 groups sometimes makes sense if you want to break up the things you depend on to bring more closely related things nearer, but it's not a big deal

06:21 notdan Heffalump: oh of course. I am all for triumph of common sense over a set of hardcoded laws :)
06:33 Heffalump :-)
06:33 Heffalump am I right above about the page just codifying existing practice now as far as indentation etc goes? (I know that the sorting is often a mess)

08:01 notdan Heffalump: partially. It's hard to codify the existing practice as a whole, because there are a lot of inconsistencies
08:01 notdan for example: http://paste.lisp.org/display/141143
08:03 notdan I propose this should be replaced with this: http://paste.lisp.org/display/141143#1

13:01 Heffalump notdan: so you want to explicitly disallow one line per symbol? I think that's reasonable as it does waste a lot of space. (I sometimes group them logically which leads to occasional groups of 1, but I guess that'd be ok anyway)

14:33 sm morning
14:36 sm re basically codifying existing practice ? yes. I doubt notdan needs to enforce anything absolutely.. sometimes there are special cases. But having an agreed canonical format that can be applied where needed is a win
14:38 sm later when tools improve maybe it will be possible to automate and forget about imports. I'd like that
14:39 sm adnap: I don't think so, there's nothing built in

16:44 sm this looks pretty handy. I downloaded intellij idea community edition, installed the ideah plugin, and can now at least browse and edit darcs as a haskell project
16:46 sm intellij is rather good for browsing files and remembering named subsets of them you're workingn on ("tasks")

17:22 Heffalump sm: interesting, I've been meaning to play with EclipseFP but hadn't got round to it
17:36 sm it's a nice git ui too. Needs a darcs plugin
17:40 sm other stuff that might work: http://code.google.com/p/ideah/wiki/Usage
17:44 sm eclipsefp is much more actively maintained I know
