07:45 notdan Hm, I want to produce darcs dev binaries... but the 'darcs' executable is huge on my osx
07:45 notdan 18mb after stripping
08:18 notdan kay, I've uploaded the dev binaries and made a simple homebrew formula for OSX: http://darcs.net/Binaries#mac-os-x

08:20 notdan erm, sorry
08:23 * Heffalump appears

13:43 notdan Heffalump: hey
13:45 Heffalump hi
13:47 notdan what do you think of this? http://hub.darcs.net/co-dan/darcs/browse/tests/whatsnew-interactive.sh
13:47 notdan also; what is up :)
13:53 Heffalump up how?
13:53 Heffalump that looks fine. Can you add a copyright/licence to it? Look at other recent tests for examples.
13:53 * Heffalump is currently helping his son make a Playmobil car
13:55 Heffalump actually I don't think tests are supposed to blow away their own working folder - again check a recent test for an example
14:02 notdan well I used record-interactive as a reference
14:08 notdan also all the tests I look at delete their working directories :(
14:09 Heffalump perhaps I'm misremembering - butlook at a test that was recently added as a good reference, rather than really old ones
14:09 Heffalump an issueXXXX-blah.sh  with a high XXXX number is a good way to find one
14:09 notdan Oh I found one from 2013
14:09 notdan yeah I see

14:10 notdan if tests use directories with names like 'R', isn't there a good chance that there might be a clash when tests are run in parallel?
14:12 notdan Yep, this looks better http://hub.darcs.net/co-dan/darcs/patch/20140208141137-e7f45
14:12 Heffalump I think the harness manages that
15:21 gh_ joined #darcs
16:22 Heffalump hi gh_
16:23 Heffalump I was thinking that it might be simpler to either (a) keep hashed-storage in a separate repo either on darcs.net or hub.darcs.net (but maintained by the darcs team) or (b) inline its cabal file properly - what do you think?
16:29 colDrMcBeardman joined #darcs
16:40 gh_ hi Heffalump
16:40 gh_ Heffalump, option (b) sounds better to me, as more "economic" in maintenance
16:44 * gh_ tries the new patches of screened with ghc 7.6 ..
16:44 Heffalump yeah, I guess it depends on how likely we are to adopt fslib later
16:45 Heffalump I hope they're ok, I tested wit GHC 7.4 and 7.8 :-)
16:47 notdan I think it's a good idea to apopt to the new library. I can't think of any argument for sticking with hashed-storage forever
16:47 notdan but  I don't know much about it
16:54 gh_ compilation went without problem (on linux)
17:00 mornfall fslib was never completed though -- if the decision to stick with hashed-storage forever gets reversed, I'd like to hear about that rather sooner than later ;-)
17:14 gh_ Heffalump, can http://bugs.darcs.net/patch1111 go in?
17:20 gh_ mornfall, I'm not aware of such a decision, personally I'm quite open to moving to something more maintainted

17:49 rdesfo joined #darcs
17:54 mornfall gh_: well, there was no decision to move on, so the implicit decision is to not move on
17:55 mornfall gh_: I don't think anyone is going to do the (pretty big and boring) pile of work on the off-chance that the team will approve it
17:56 mornfall (I tried that once, and it didn't work)
18:19 notdan so hashed-storage is deprecated and there is no replacement? o_O
18:22 notdan Heffalump: I figured out why my patches were not appearing on the patch tracker. I had to add 'send mail' to ~/.darcs/defaults
18:22 notdan I wonder what it does without that line, just ignore the mail?
18:31 mornfall notdan: yes, you don't continue working on something when downstream says they aren't going to use it anyway

19:06 gh_ mornfall, I found this page with a short descrption you wrote about fslib: http://anna.fi.muni.cz/~xrockai/web-root/htdocs_disabled/blog/soc_reloaded:_outcomes.html
19:06 gh_ mornfall, did you write more about it?
19:13 marclaporte joined #darcs
19:18 gh_ mornfall, about what you would plan to do on it
