01:05 byorgey anyone here know the status of darcs-bridge?  I want to use it to convert a darcs repo to git, but I'm having trouble building it.
01:06 sm byorgey: best option is convert --export in darcs HEAD
01:06 byorgey sm: oh! cool
01:06 sm it just works, for a one-time conversion
01:06 byorgey great
01:07 byorgey sm: which branch do I want? reviewed or screened?
01:07 sm screened I would say
01:07 byorgey ok
01:08 sm darcs head requires that you install the hashed-storage version bundled with it
01:09 byorgey ok, good to know
01:10 byorgey so just  cabal sandbox init; cabal sandbox add-source hashed-storage; cabal install ?
01:12 * byorgey tries it
01:24 byorgey sm: worked great, thank!
01:34 sm byorgey: np. gh_ integrated it
01:34 byorgey gh_++
02:00 gh_ :-)
02:00 gh_ and mornfall wrote it
02:01 gh_ above all

08:20 hvr sm: oh, it's only for one-shot conversions? :-/ what can I use if I need to maintain a continues git-view of a darcs repo with stable commit-ids?
08:35 hvr seems it works incrementally

11:30 byorgey hvr: for that there's darcs-bridge but I don't know the current status.
11:34 hvr byorgey: well, that's what I'm using right now, but was under the impression it's not maintained actively
11:35 hvr otoh, I'd like to better understand why darcs is hanging on 'darcs pull' in the first place
11:35 hvr for this one repository I have
11:42 mornfall hvr: for incremental conversion, you can use marksfiles (darcs-bridge automates that for you I think)
11:42 mornfall hvr: darcs-bridge uses the same conversion code, just modified somewhat (as darcs convert)

13:51 sm morning
13:53 sm would these be the levels of darcs-git conversion, easiest to hardest ? 1. one-time git to darcs 2. incremental git to darcs 3. one-time darcs to git, 4. incremental (from a repo with stable patch ordering), 5. incremental (any patch ordering), 6. multi-branch (darcs repos to git branches), 7. multi-branch preserving branch relationships, 8. and tags, 9. incremental two-way mirroring
13:56 sm hvr maybe doing the pull with --debug-verbose, --no-cache and/or strace can give some clues
13:57 sm other darcs versions, platforms, ...
13:57 gh_ hi
13:57 sm hi gh_
13:58 hvr sm: 18:02 < hvr> sm: https://ghc.haskell.org/.tmp/transformers-darcs.tar.xz
13:59 gh_ sm, "3. one-time darcs to git" is the easiest, I think (if it only involves creating a single branch)
13:59 hvr sm: I tried with --debug-verbose, but that was rather quiet, also I tried darcs-2.9.8 as well
13:59 gh_ Is there a third dev willing to mentor a summer of code project this year?
14:00 gh_ kowey, sm, gal_bolle, mornfall, owst … ?
14:00 gh_ (for darcs of course)

14:05 sm not me gh_, I'll likely be mentoring a hledger project
14:07 gh_ sm, okay

19:45 Heffalump vikraman: cool - the intro in particular looks really nice with the proof of concept. Could you take a stab at breaking the timeline down more? Even if you get it totally wrong compared to what actually happens, it'll help a lot to think about the pieces in more detail.
19:45 Heffalump Also, remember it has to go into melange so you need a tex-free version for that (perhaps with a pointer to a prettier PDF)
19:45 * Heffalump notices the TODO comment in the timeline :-)
19:46 Heffalump would also be good to add a mention of communication during the project, e.g. a blog recording progress

20:37 Heffalump sm (or anyone else forthat matter): was just thinking about how lists of patches would ideally look in darcsden. The two features that might be nice would be indefinite scrolling (via lazy loading) and having them in draggable boxes like the jqueryui sortable examples. What do you think?
20:40 sm Heffalump: sounds good! I wonder why github doesn't do that
20:40 sm what would dragging do ?
20:43 Heffalump in a single patch list, reorder the patches, or perhaps have special target areas for putting together bundles to send etc (I'm mostly thinking about the local dev case in this instance)
20:43 Heffalump in compare pages, could be used to merge
20:43 Heffalump also, the same view applies to a "record my local changes" view in local dev
20:44 Heffalump anyway, I have no more than the barest idea of how to implement this...
20:44 sm some js ajax lib
20:44 Heffalump particularly if you want the UI to know up front wabout dependencies/conflicts
