00:20 lispy sm: my blog is now at dagit.github.io, but I haven't blogged about darcs is ages (years?)
00:24 sm 5.5 years :)

07:49 ivanm anyone else experienced darcs complaining about not being able to open _darcs/pristine.hashed/<hash> after building with 7.8.2?
08:01 edwardk joined #darcs
08:05 nomeata joined #darcs
08:12 ivanm OK, it can't be just because of my re-building it with 7.8.2: I copied over a binary from another machine and it's having the same problems :s
08:14 ivanm (and it worked fine on that machine)
08:14 ivanm is there likely to be any kind of environment variable or some-such that affects how darcs operates?
08:17 ivanm this occurs even when I create a new repo and try to commit its first patch :s
08:17 ivanm oh, in this case it might be because the darcs I copied over from the other machine is trying to access non-existent libraries :s

09:48 Heffalump ivanm: in general GHC 7.8.2 isn't supported
09:49 Heffalump HEAD does build with it in theory, but there seem to be problems in the downloader. slyfox has hopefully fixed them, but it's worth being cautious for now.

13:43 sm ivanm: http://bugs.darcs.net/issue2364 , maybe you can test the fix
13:58 ivanm sm: I've got that patch; it doesn't change anything
13:58 ivanm is there any other way I can do some kind of debugging to find out what's going on?
13:58 ivanm (I'm about to hit the sack and my internet connection has been playing up of a night time, so if you have any ideas please @tell me via lambdabot)
14:03 ivanm just to be clear, even this simple example fails for me: mkdir test && cd test && darcs init && echo "a" > foo && darcs add foo && darcs record --all --name="testing"
14:39 mizu_no_oto joined #darcs
15:13 Heffalump @tell ivanm and does it work with GHC 7.6.3?
15:13 lambdabot Consider it noted.

17:37 sm @tell ivanm debugging steps include 1. adding --debug-verbose and 2. adding trace calls to the code

19:40 gh_ sm, are packs disabled on hub.darcs.net now?
19:41 sm I don't think so gh_, I just don't update them. I think it shows the last pack time
19:41 sm nice news post btw, as usual
19:42 gh_ sm, ah, you mean repo owners have to build them manually?
19:42 sm I don't think they are able to
19:42 sm I have ignored them since I tested and found them not working
19:43 sm are you testing ? anything I can do to help ?
19:43 gh_ sm, ok. I'm asking since darcs HEAD has a different implementation of packs getting, that should have a more predictable behaviour, it would be nice to test it more.
19:43 sm ah
19:44 sm how safe would it be to run darcsden with darcs HEAD and ghc 7.8 ?
19:44 gh_ sm, basic pack (= pristine) is download only if up-to-date, and patches pack is always downloaded if available
19:44 gh_ sm, I don't know, I haven't tried with GHC 7.8 yet
19:45 sm could you maybe build a local darcsden instance ?
19:47 gh_ I could, probably not today
19:48 sm I don't think I can trust darcs head and ghc 7.8 for darcs hub yet. I'll look into building it with ghc 7.6
19:49 gh_ my distro (ubuntu 14.10) currently provides 7.6.3
20:09 gh_ hmm, nice to see that http://hackage.haskell.org/package/smtp-mail is maintained
20:18 sm does mdiaz come here I wonder
20:19 sm I'm wondering how to garbage collect ~/.cache/darcs
20:19 sm other than rm -rf ...
20:20 gh_ I'm reminding the GSoC students from time to time to be conected here :-)
20:20 gh_ got to go!
20:20 sm great.. see you gh

20:26 ente hello
20:26 ente dardsden is down
20:26 ente when did that happen?
20:26 ente and the password reset mail I got from hub.darcs.net is empt
20:26 ente y
20:28 sm some time in the last half year I think
20:29 ente last darcs release was a year ago and owst isn't in /whowas
20:29 ente so.. is darcs dead?
20:30 sm the darcs hub reset email contains a html part with a link, but it seems the text part is empty
20:30 sm not dead, it's just resting
20:30 ente alright
20:30 ente ah, I see
20:30 sm if you check the news updates on planet darcs, you'll see there's some steady development ongoing
20:30 ente empty text part is unfortunate
20:30 ente might be better not to send one in that case
20:31 ente thanks for the hint :)
20:31 sm yes it it.. care to open a bug at http://hub.darcs.net/simon/darcsden/issues ?
20:31 ente and glad to hear
20:31 ente as soon as I reset my password :)
20:31 sm thanks for the report
20:34 ente http://hub.darcs.net/simon/darcsden/issue/104
20:34 ente thanks!
20:40 ente okay
20:41 ente I just created a repo but I can't get it or push to it
20:41 ente it says "darcs get url: mw@hub.darcs.net:mw/jailhack" and "push your code to mw@hub.darcs.net:jailhack to get started"
20:42 ente but apparently neither of them works
20:43 Heffalump what happens if you try ssh mw@hub.darcs.net ?
20:44 ente oh
20:44 ente no matching cipher found: client aes128-ctr,aes192-ctr,aes256-ctr,arcfour256,arcfour128,arcfour server aes256-cbc,aes192-cbc,aes128-cbc
20:44 ente that explains it
20:44 sm is it covered by the faq ?
20:45 ente I manually disabled certain ciphers in my ssh client after there was an openssh vulnerability
20:45 ente I'm just somewhat paranoid on occasion
20:45 sm darcs hub's ssh server is not very featureful
20:47 sm well I got darcsden built with darcs head & ghc 7.6, but figuring out the flags will have to wait till next time
20:47 Heffalump sm: what were you using before?
20:48 Heffalump I would definitely recommend against 7.8 until the picture is clearer.
20:48 sm nod
20:49 sm I believe I was using --port P --hostname H --path / , and since then only --port was removed
20:49 Heffalump I meant what version of darcs and ghc were you using
20:49 Heffalump but that may be relevant too :-)
20:49 sm but darcsden --help with either my old or new executable mentions only --root and rejects all other flags. So I'm totally confused
20:50 sm back to your topic: darcs hub was last built with ghc 7.6 and darcs head of mid march I believe
20:50 Heffalump ok, so that shouldn't be much of a change
20:50 ente alright
20:51 ente push worked
20:54 ente in case anyone here uses freebsd jails and wants to see horrible code: http://hub.darcs.net/mw/jailhack
20:54 ente :P
