04:58 sm the manual on darcs.net is lagging behind darcs-screened wrt rollback. rollback no longer creates a patch by default, and the --record/--unrecord flags are gone
04:59 sm Also the last part of --help is unclear ("If you want to record a patch from the rollback you can use revert and unrevert to put aside and restore unrecorded changes of your working copy.")
05:00 sm I looked at Rollback.hs history but I'm not sure who done it
05:00 sm though I suppose the online darcs manual tracks the current release
06:51 Heffalump notdan: yes I'm interested in mentoring this year, assuming we do get slotsvia haskell.org
07:11 Heffalump notdan: I guess you looked at http://darcs.net/GSoC already - your proposal is presumably based on idea 2?
08:14 alexei___ joined #darcs
08:15 notdan sm: I fully agree, the proposal *is* overtly ambitious. I guess it's more sensible to write a more modest proposal and do additional work, than write an ambitious proposal and fail in the end.
08:16 notdan sm: Do you think 1+3 could be a good proposal?
08:16 notdan sm: erm, 1+2?

18:01 sm sometimes I am <cough> converting darcs repos to git
18:01 sm these aliases make it handy:
18:01 sm alias darcs-to-git='git init && darcs tag to-git && darcs convert export | git fast-import && deunderscore-git-tags && git reset'
18:01 sm alias deunderscore-git-tags='echo renaming git tags...; git tag | grep _ > t; for t in `cat t`; do git tag `echo $t | sed -e s/_/./g` $t; git tag -d $t; done'
18:01 sm
18:02 sm however it seems to mess up non-ascii filenames during conversion, would anyone know more about this ?
18:07 sm or if you found otherwise, let me know, I'm confused
18:18 sm indeed, it does. I've also got duplicates of files appearing in other directories.. I think that's a different bug, probably not converting file moves correctly
18:36 gh_ hi sm
18:39 gh_ sm, how about this change to the rollback help string? http://lpaste.net/5473259460187127808
18:53 Heffalump wouldn't be possible for rollback to make the unrevert patch unusable? (It might warn you at that point)
18:54 Heffalump this problem applies to the original help text too, of course
19:11 gh_ Heffalump, you mean that doing unrevert would cause conflicts? yes. But in any case it would be usable.
19:11 gh_ unless amend or obliterate/unrecord is run in the middle

19:45 Heffalump ah yes, I thought it actually deleted the unrevert patch in those circumstances
19:52 sm gh_: that's a bit better
19:52 * sm wonders if revert/unrevert be replaced by a real stash command
19:52 gh_ sm, I was also thinking that just removing the paragraph would do it
19:53 sm good idea
19:54 sm how is darcs rollback different from darcs unrecord now ?
19:55 gh_ sm, unrecord deletes a patch from the history (leaving its changes in working), rollback only changes working
20:01 sm right.. they seem pretty close
20:02 sm I liked when rollback just recorded a patch
20:14 gh_ I'd rather compare rollback with obliterate
20:14 Heffalump I was forever unrecording that patch, as were several others I remember complaining about it
20:15 Heffalump but at least some people seem to like the old behaviour
