11:28 pointfree Was thinking about branches in darcs http://darcs.net/Ideas/Branches
11:28 pointfree I think branches would be a major source of complication as they are with git (stash, stash pop, etc etc...)
11:28 pointfree I *don't* understand at all the desire for git-style branches in darcs.
11:28 pointfree Although, I do understand the appeal of having separate areas to work in...
11:28 pointfree Perhaps darcs branches could be implemented as sugar around spontaneous branches.
11:28 pointfree i.e. Hide all patches from working copy except the set of those patches with selected hashtags and their dependencies.
13:27 MasseR pointfree: hard to live without them after you are used to them
13:28 MasseR for example we have a habit of creating a new branch for each new ticket
13:28 MasseR We have a baseline (master) from which each of the tickets are created from. At the end, after testing, we merge some of the tickets to be deployed
13:28 MasseR This allows us to have clean branches, without any pollution from other tickets
13:29 MasseR But your "hide all patches from working copy" sounds like a suitable idea
13:29 MasseR As in, it keeps the 'branch' clean without pollution from other 'branches'

16:41 Heffalump pointfree: FWIW my current plan is to implement a 'stash' command that can hide any patch you choose from working
16:48 Heffalump then (assuming it seems worth accepting) we can think about what to build on that to do named branches and the like

18:48 pointfree So if "darcs stash" (or whatever name is chosen) hides everything not matching that regex and as a consequence sets the default " -p regex", then maybe "named branches" could just be bookmarks of said regex, tag, or index-range.
19:06 sm <bikeshed> stash wouldn't be a good name since it's unrelated to git stash
20:05 Heffalump doesn't git stash remove changes from the repo?
20:05 Heffalump I chose the name because I thought it was similar, but I'm not really all that familiar with git
20:09 dolio git/hg stash moves working directory changes into a place where they can be re-applied later.
20:09 dolio Uncommitted working directory changes.
20:40 Heffalump fair enough
20:40 Heffalump I guess with darcs we'd encourage a record-then-(thingthatshouldn'tbecalledstash) workflow
20:40 Heffalump someone think of a name..
20:42 dolio filter?
20:44 Heffalump that sort of implies something functional (at least to me), like creating a new repo filtered from an old one
20:44 dolio hide?
20:45 Heffalump hmm, yes
20:45 Heffalump I had envisioned stash as a supercommand like rebase, i.e 'darcs stash suspend' and 'darcs stash unsuspend'
20:45 Heffalump I guess I could also use 'darcs suspend' and 'darcs unsuspend'
20:50 dolio reserve?
20:50 dolio Oh, or hoard. :)
20:51 maerwald darcs darken
20:51 dolio Or backlog.
20:52 maerwald "darcs lighten" to bringt it back to light

21:45 Heffalump darcs drown and darcs resuscitate
21:45 Heffalump notdan: FYI the den command isn't working very well with your latest repo, it appears to listen on port 8900 but there's no actual response, and then when I ^C it eventually only then it tries to launch a browser
21:46 Heffalump but I haven't had much time to investigate in detail
21:52 notdan hm strange..
21:52 notdan it does work for me
21:52 notdan So what is the situation, you don't have darcsden running in the background and just run the den command?
22:14 Heffalump oh, hmm, I didn't check for duplicates :-)
22:14 Heffalump ok, no, definitely no duplicates. So yes, no darcsden process, just run the den command.
22:15 Heffalump is there a way to get diagnostic/progress messages?
22:15 Heffalump oh, hangon, I think it might have been the same old problem with launching a URL too early - the browser may have blocked the 'den' process.
