10:04 pointfree I switched to a newer copy of darcsden on my home-server and my repos are listed but it's saying 'repository invalid'
10:04 pointfree http://www.0xffffffff.in:8900/pointfree
10:04 pointfree This happened to me in the past with previous darcsden upgrades.
10:25 notdan hm
10:26 notdan are repositories actually there, on the file system?
11:01 Heffalump does the log have any more useful messages?
11:13 mizu_no_oto joined #darcs
11:21 pointfree This is spit out to the access.log when I try to load the repo page:
11:21 pointfree [26/Aug/2015:07:17:38 -0400] "GET /pointfree/oceanforth HTTP/1.1" 500 - "http://www.0xffffffff.in:8900/explore" "Mozilla/5.0 (Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/538.15+ (KHTML, like Gecko) WebKitGTK+/2.4.9 luakit/0d5f4"
11:21 pointfree Nothing to the error.log
11:23 pointfree How can I check if the repos are actually in CouchDB?
14:33 pointfree I think we should claim the (inactive) @darcs twitter handle.
14:33 pointfree Is "darcs" a registered trademark? Owned by the SFC?
14:33 pointfree https://support.twitter.com/articles/15362#
14:47 pointfree Doh!
14:47 pointfree The repo was stored under darcsden-local/users/pointfree/oceanforth
14:47 pointfree No wonder it couldn't be found with a fresh copy of darcsden-local! Apologies for the noise!

16:02 sm pointfree: any suggestion to improve usability ?
16:03 Heffalump a clear error message in error.log seems the key thing here

17:58 pointfree what he said
18:08 f-a joined #darcs
18:10 f-a I am testing `darcs rebase suspend`
18:10 f-a say I want to modify patch X, which patch should I suspend?
18:17 f-a in my notes I wrote "if you want to modify B, suspend all the patches that depends on B". But how to find them?
18:23 notdan there's no way, IIRC
18:24 notdan I just stuspend patches untill I get to B
18:24 f-a xD that's ... nice
18:24 * f-a tries it
18:26 notdan yeah exposing the patch dependencies to the user is one the topics i am interested in doing during the sprint
18:29 mempko joined #darcs
18:32 f-a it worked, thanks notdan
18:36 pointfree So, I can already do darcs log and darcs whatsnew on individual files and directories and darcs will handle the dependencies. Shouldnt darcs, in theory, use the same mechanism for darcs pull and darcs clone? That would mean partial repository clones somewhat similar to svn.
18:36 pointfree I wish I could come to the darcs sprint.
18:37 pointfree My darcs ideas are piling without the time to implement them.
18:41 sm tell me about it
18:41 sm I need an idea shovel
18:41 pointfree Maybe next year when I get two weeks of vacation.
18:43 sm pointfree: there's also the 15-60m-a-day method
18:43 sm blogging or tweeting progress to keep on it
19:05 f-a mhhh so now I rebased and I have a "different repository". But what does it mean practically? That if people send me a patch from the pre-rebase repo I can't apply it?
19:14 notdan yes
19:14 notdan and vice versa
19:15 notdan if you know 100% that there would be no conflicts you can try manually editing a patch bundle
19:15 notdan i did this at least once and it worked *shrugs*
19:15 f-a thanks
19:25 Heffalump f-a/notdan: use 'w' on all the patches until you get to B
19:25 Heffalump notdan: does that mean you can make it to the sprint? :-)
19:25 f-a Heffalump: wait and decide later. And then what, suspend B?
19:26 Heffalump yes
19:26 Heffalump and that will implicitly turn the relevant 'w's into 'y'
19:26 Heffalump i.e. just the ones that are needed
19:26 f-a ohhh
19:26 f-a so I can actually suspend B if I need to modify B
19:26 f-a nice, thanks Heffalump
19:27 Heffalump actually, yeah, that's a slight inconvenience, you'd immediately need to unsuspend that to modify it
19:27 Heffalump I *think* you could say 'y' to B, then at the next patch go back one and turn B into a 'n'. Not certain though.
19:28 f-a ok, so go to b, suspend, darcs rebase unsuspend (b), edit , unsuspend everything
19:30 Heffalump right
19:30 f-a gracias
19:54 notdan Heffalump: I am mostly sure
19:54 notdan right now I am technically homeless, but I hope that by the start of the academic year I figure out my situation
