15:16 pointfree What is the recommended way to edit the darcs.net wiki? I saw some chatter on the mailing list about mirroring issues.
15:17 pointfree I wanted to add a link to this implementation of pushout-patch-theory http://liamoc.net/posts/2015-11-10-patch-theory.html
15:18 pointfree *Haskell implementation
15:19 pointfree I think it could be a good starting point for Pushout Patch-Theory in darcs.

15:49 human_nature hi
15:50 human_nature I am new to the whole source code manag thing
15:50 human_nature if I write some code
15:50 human_nature how do you get it? without overwriting the previous version?
15:50 human_nature and test and use it?
15:50 human_nature and then how do you merge it  in?
15:50 human_nature once you are satisfied? and make few more changes?
15:50 human_nature I get confused
15:54 sm human_nature: skimming the darcs manual should help
15:55 sm in essence, version control systems store the history of your files in a hidden folder in your project directory, _darcs in this case, and provide a bunch of commands to save/restore changes
15:56 human_nature ok
16:03 byorgey what does it mean when I click the "subscribe" button for a repo on darcshub?
16:03 thetallguy left #darcs
16:04 sm hi byorgey.. it means you'll get email notifications of new issues and comments on all issues
16:05 byorgey great.  is there a way I can set that globally for all my repos?  I want this to be the default
16:05 sm we should say that in a tooltip
16:05 sm I forget.. maerwald ?
16:06 sm I think it is the default for all repos you create from now on
16:06 byorgey ok, that's good to know
16:06 byorgey so I'll just go through and manually set it for existing repos
16:07 sm sounds good
16:08 pointfree A "subscribe to user" button would be good to have. I can look into adding a "subscribe" button to the user repo list pages(?)
16:10 sm why not.. will it be used much do you think ?
16:11 pointfree Likely not as much as the repo and issue subscribe buttons because users' repos tend to be somewhat unrelated most of the time, but there are times when I would like to have it.

16:19 sm good enough!
16:25 pointfree btw sm, can you tell me how I'm supposed to use the darcsden-post-hook feature? When I run it I just see "No darcs patch info available" I think (?) darcsden/post-hook/ would be a good place to factor in a darcsden "events api" for things other than closing issues, other things such as the upcoming darcsden events feed and notifications for new upstream and downstream patches.
16:35 sm pointfree: I have forgotten!
16:35 sm I don't remember which repos I have it configured in, or how that is done
16:36 sm I believe it expects to find the DARCS_PATCHES_XML env var, documented in the darcs manual
16:36 sm and for each patch there, it scans the names for issue patterns
16:37 sm so, it's supposed to be called by darcs with that env var, not directly by you
16:40 sm http://darcs.net/manual/bigpage.html#SECTION00612000000000000000 , I think you add "apply --posthook=SCRIPT" in _darcs/prefs/defaults
16:41 sm though "we refuse to pass environment variables greater in size than 10k", interesting
16:42 sm ah, see under http://darcs.net/manual/bigpage.html#SECTION00410000000000000000
16:44 pointfree Can we add a posthook globally to say, the ~/.darcs directory on darcshub itself?
16:44 sm and there are some other commands to hook if you want to be comprehensive. Here's an example http://hub.darcs.net/simon/darcs-feed-config/browse/defaults
16:45 sm eh, say more ?
16:45 sm what would we put there
16:52 pointfree Cool! Thanks for uploading that feed-config stuff. I was asking if we could configure the posthook in only one place instead of individually for each repo.
16:57 sm I'm not sure. You mean a global hook for all darcsden users and repos, right ?
16:58 pointfree Yes
17:01 sm what should it do ?
17:02 sm hmm, I wonder why http://hub.darcs.net/simon/darcs-feed-config/raw-file/defaults fails
17:05 sm ha, it works
17:06 sm (hooks in /home/darcsden/.darcs/defaults are run, for all repos)
17:08 sm testing it for apply/pull/record/obliterate on darcs hub, please let me know of any problems
17:09 sm so, for one thing we could generate patch feeds for all repos pretty easily this way
17:09 sm static, efficient ones

18:19 pointfree sm, I only see that error in your repositories, not in anyone else's repos. I also forked darcs-feed-config to my account and saw no problems.
18:21 pointfree ah nevermind.
