05:29 Heffalump has anyone tried to post to either mailing list (darcs-devel or darcs-users) this month? I haven't seen any traffic at all, which is a bit unusual.

20:02 bf_ Heffalump: I do not see any messages either (via gmane) and I have sent the big patch bundle that refactors the encoding, I think that was yesterday?
20:30 bf_ Is it normal that removed lines get '- -' prepended in patch bundles but added lines get only a single '+'?

20:44 nesknarf Anyone here who knows something about darcs patch bundles?
20:45 nesknarf (I used to be bf/bfrk but these names are registered, so...)
20:54 Heffalump umm, I know _something_ about them..
20:59 Heffalump nesknarf: I don't see anything on the patch tracker for your bundle either, nor in the spam trap
21:00 nesknarf oh, oh...
21:02 * Heffalump does some debugging
21:02 nesknarf Heffalump: is it normal that removed lines are prefixed with '- -'?
21:07 Heffalump I don't know enough about them to be sure, but filterGpgDashes suggests that it is
21:11 nesknarf Fascinating
21:14 nesknarf Okay, I see it only with --sign (have that as default so I didn't think about it)
21:14 nesknarf Just wondered whether I dound a bug
21:15 nesknarf ...found...
21:18 nesknarf I also noticed that apparently minimizing the context has been bought with absence of contextual lines in the bundle
21:18 Heffalump it sounds like it's just escaping to avoid some problems with GPG. I originally thought it might be something to do with email, but that's based on '>' not '-'
21:21 nesknarf Hm. I have difficulty imagining that gpg is too stupid to handle leading '-' characters. Also, couldn't we sign the bundle after encoding it (with quoted-printable)?
21:23 nesknarf I don't mean you are wrong, just wondering
21:25 Heffalump no idea, but remember most of this will date from 14 years ago
21:27 nesknarf Right. To answer my last question: we probably want the bundle to be human readable, so qp encoding before signing is not a good idea.
21:27 nesknarf Ah, you mean GPG was that stupid 14 years ago. That is certainly possible.
21:27 Heffalump it does explicitly talk about clear signing, too
21:28 nesknarf Will read gpg man page to see if this is (still?) justified.
21:28 Heffalump you may have a backwards compatibility problem even if it isn't
21:38 nesknarf It looks as if gpg really is that stupid. There is a special option --not-dash-escaped but the description says it shouldn't be used to send mails.
21:39 nesknarf The man page also suggests to use a detached signature whatever that is. Ok, enough, leave it as it is.
