20:02 pointfree darcs-style Spontaneous branches are, IMO, a better fit for patch-based dvcs than "git checkout -b" or "pijul fork". Selecting arbitrary subsets of patches with hashtags like P#feature1 P#bugfix2 P#bugfix3 is the way to go for a change-centric dvcs. Tree-style branches are a better fit for history-based, file-based version control such as git.
20:02 pointfree With tree-style branches sharing features between branches is rather awkward and unnatural.
20:02 pointfree I'm not sure why we're saying darcs spontaneous branches are a "halfway house to the full idea of multiple branches" http://darcs.net/Ideas/Stash
20:02 pointfree Spontaneous branches are superior to git-tree-style-branches. They are more flexible and you can have multiple hashtags and multiple per commit/record ...in other words that means multiple branches.
21:35 Heffalump I'm not saying with stash that you'll get something equivalent to git branches - obviously patches give you much more flexibility to mix and match.
21:35 Heffalump Which is what I think you are saying.
21:35 Heffalump I'm just saying I want to make it easy to switch between different sets of patches in a single repository.
21:36 Heffalump which git already does (albeit for trees not patches), and darcs doesn't
