18:26 dukeleto what needs doing in dbdi ?

19:24 dukeleto mberends: hola
19:25 mberends hi dukeleto!
19:30 dukeleto mberends: how goes it?
19:30 mberends heh, I'm on Java crash course for a few weeks, first porting the C# 6model than jnthn is writing into Java, and then I expect to help with rewriting JDBC implementation code in Perl 6.
19:31 dukeleto mberends: cool! what needs doing with minidbi?
19:32 mberends dukeleto: the CSV driver is less than 10% implemented, that is going to be a nice practical example of Perl 6 grammars and actions.
19:32 dukeleto mberends: where does that code live?
19:32 mberends the FreeTDS driver needs to be researched and started.
19:33 mberends http://github.com/mberends/MiniDBI
19:34 mberends there is a GSoC project to make an FFI for Parrot. That will help get into more database client libraries such as SQLite.
19:36 mberends if Parrot assimilates the FFI work, it will improve the flexibility of http://github.com/jnthn/zavolaj which will be used by most MiniDBI drivers
19:37 mberends Zavolaj may be assimilated into Rakudo if it becomes useful enough
19:40 dukeleto yes, many people are excited about good ffi in parrot, lots of people seem to be waiting on it

19:43 timbunce I'd really like someone to work on a DBDI driver for MiniDBI.
19:44 timbunce Since DBDI has a perl5 DBI driver (albeit minimal at the moment) that would also give MiniDBI access to all perl5 DBI drivers.
19:49 dukeleto timbunce: that sounds like something fun
19:49 dukeleto timbunce: does MiniDBI have any other drivers right now?

19:50 mberends timbunce: I would like to work on that MiniDBI -> DBDI driver as well, but have a restricted supply of tuits in the next few weeks, and spike in the demand. :-(
19:50 timbunce dukeleto: Not much. Take a peek at the repro on github
19:51 timbunce mberends: understood - i know the feeling
19:51 mberends afk & # supper
19:51 * dukeleto will peek at some repos
19:52 timbunce I haven't touched DBDI since the mad demo I gave at YAPC::EU :) I guess this chat as a good excuse to dust it off and apply some polish.
19:55 dukeleto timbunce: i just watched the video, very cool stuff

20:07 timbunce FYI, one of the things I mentioned in the talk was adding infrastructure for logging method calls without having to write logging code into every method call. I talked to jnthn++ about it at YAPC. He then typed in this example and it worked first time! http://gist.github.com/552139
20:12 timbunce Basically it introspects a role and create a new one with wrapping methods that log and applies it to an object. Cool.
