00:39 snadge oh thats simple.. if you are piping something from netcat into rngd using stdin
00:39 snadge and netcat doesn't connect
00:39 snadge rngd starts anyway.. errors.. and then exits
00:39 snadge but no matter how you start rngd.. it always returns 0.. even if you give it invalid parameters
00:40 snadge so basically i just needed a way to detect simple startup failures in the init.d script
00:40 snadge at the moment.. im not bothering.. it'll just say [OK] even if theres a problem.. *shrug*
00:40 snadge the important thing is, that we have a method of distributing entropy from the virtual host (or dom0 in xen terminology) to the guests (or domU)
00:41 snadge and it is agnostic to the type of virtualisation environment being employed
00:41 snadge so we could switch to kvm, vmware.. or something else
00:42 snadge actually thats not really important either.. its more not being dependant on too much custom written code.. which then has to be maintained.. xinetd, nc and rngd.. are all someone elses problem ;)
