00:44 snadge i have also noticed that.. we'll be setting up some nagios alerts to check for failure
00:44 snadge as it will be used in a production environment
12:05 mikemol I never saw it as much of a problem, as long as the nc daemon was fixed before rngd ran out.
12:06 mikemol The thing that always rubbed me raw about rngd, though, was that rngd (by default) polls for entropy at 30s intervals. 4096 bits of entropy are likely to be gone in a snap, so 30s doesn't work very nicely.
12:08 mikemol I should be able to start hacking on etools again in a couple months, my new job feels like it's about to settle down. I need to go over entbuff and ensure it has a proper daemon role. Then I need to build debian, ubuntu and gentoo packages for it. (I don't know the rpm system, so that's off the table until I have occasion to study it.)
12:08 mikemol Get it submitted to debian for sid, get it added to Gentoo Sunrise.
12:09 mikemol Then get hacking on entmesh.
12:10 mikemol At that point, I should probably get in touch with rngd folks and see about getting a netlink hook set up for the entropy pool, so I could have the kernel actively request entropy from userland. That way, entropy could be fed on-demand.
