15:47 asvechnikov_ pramodkrsingh, Hi, what kind of problem do you have?
15:47 Garrett_ hi all, is there anyway to produce a fuel iso offline?
15:47 Garrett_ if i have a computer without internet connection can i still produce an iso with fuel-main?
15:54 garrett_ joined #fuel-dev
15:55 garrett_ hi is there anyway I can build a fuel iso without an internet connection?

16:13 garrett_ joined #fuel-dev
16:14 garrett_ sorry i keep getting logged out of my computer before seeing any solutions posted...is there any way to build an iso with fuel-main without an internet connection? If i build it on another ubuntu 14.04 system then tar up the directory and all the repos will it build again on an offline machine?
16:21 mwhahaha You'd have to create a local mirror sync
16:21 mwhahaha so pull it down, tar it up and make available on the build server
17:48 garrett joined #fuel-dev
17:49 Guest42390 so basically all I have to do to get this working offline is run it on a machine with internet, tar it up, untar on other machine without internet, then run prepare build environment and make iso??
17:49 Guest42390 sorry i didnt ask this earlier
17:49 Guest42390 since all of the repos are already downloaded into the directory?
17:59 _nadya_ joined #fuel-dev
18:03 Guest42390 anyone there?
18:06 ub joined #fuel-dev
18:09 mwhahaha well you'd need to prepare your local mirror
18:09 mwhahaha not sure the exact steps for that
18:14 Guest42390 is that a mirror that has every repo that this downloads similiar to the mirror.seed-us1.fuel-infra.org
18:14 Guest42390 ?
18:15 mwhahaha you don't need all of those
18:16 mwhahaha also you'd need to grab the ubuntu mirror as well
18:16 Guest42390 isnt the ubuntu mirror inside the one i just listed?
18:17 mwhahaha no that's that mirantis mirror for the master and the openstack packages
18:17 mwhahaha you'd still need the ubuntu mirror i believe
18:17 mwhahaha its in the fuel-main
18:18 Guest42390 well if i tar up the whole directory after i have ran it previously should it already be in there?
18:18 mwhahaha yea it'll grab a local mirror
18:19 mwhahaha but you'd lose any updates over time
18:19 javeriak joined #fuel-dev
18:19 mwhahaha it'd be better to figure out what you need to mirror so you could setup an automated process to make sure those stay in sync
18:20 mwhahaha pretty sure it's  the stuff listed here, https://github.com/openstack/fuel-main/blob/master/config.mk#L150-L164
18:20 Guest42390 right. so i guess im just a little confused about how many mirrors there are that fuel is pulling from... which ones would i have to mirror?
18:20 Guest42390 and by mirror you mean just setup locally running instances of the mirrors it uses now??
18:20 mwhahaha yea
18:21 mwhahaha basically you'd need to mirror all the sources to build off l ine
18:22 Guest42390 hmm that makes sense. So thats it? I think we have a sys admin who can do that...what about docker??
18:22 mwhahaha what about it
18:23 Guest42390 will it cause the build to fail because of the lack of internet connection??
18:23 mwhahaha yes
18:23 mwhahaha you can import/export the base docker image for centos however
18:23 mwhahaha it only pulls it down if it's not already loaded into the docker system
18:24 mwhahaha so you could do that ahead of time or provide it before running
18:24 Guest42390 so if i used the directory ive compressed, it should already exist so it wont matter?
18:25 Guest42390 oh wait nvm
18:25 mwhahaha we don't pull docker into the local image
18:25 mwhahaha er local mirror in fuel-main
18:25 mwhahaha it gets loaded into docker
18:25 mwhahaha an alternative would be to setup a local docker repository
18:26 mwhahaha basically what you need to do is mirror all the dependencies locally in order to build offline
18:27 Guest42390 right. so is there a place where it lists every dependency it pulls from? Just the config.mk file?
18:27 Guest42390 sorry, im a little unfamiliar with docker
18:27 mwhahaha no i don't think we have it listed in a single spot
18:28 Guest42390 oh, damn
18:29 mwhahaha the stuff in config.mk is probably 95% of it tho
18:30 Guest42390 hmm ok. so basically i need to mirror those dependencies, and then we need to create our own docker instance? What is in docker?
18:33 mwhahaha depends on which version of fuel you're building
18:33 mwhahaha but it would just be the centos base image
18:33 Guest42390 7
18:35 mwhahaha so if you build it on your local machine, you can export the base centos image and save it off some where
18:35 mwhahaha then you could just import it prior to running the build
18:35 mwhahaha and if it's already in docker then it won't try and fetch it
18:35 mwhahaha but that's probably a better question for the docker folks on the best practices for that
18:37 Guest42390 ok thatll probably work. what do you mean by import it? Just place it in the right directory or actually create a docker instance with the same contents?
18:37 Guest42390 also, where would be the file that im needing to import?
18:37 Guest42390 ive run a succeful build locally
18:37 mwhahaha http://tuhrig.de/difference-between-save-and-export-in-docker/
18:38 mwhahaha export/import
18:41 Guest42390 ah gotcha. well where does the docker image reside inside of fuel-main so that i can export it/import?
18:42 Guest42390 err, not inside of fuel-main
18:43 mwhahaha it's not inside fuel-main, it's in docker on the host
18:43 mwhahaha so you'd have to export the centos image
18:44 sean-k-mooney joined #fuel-dev
18:46 Guest42390 sorry im not quite understanding what you mean by exporting the centos image. where is the centos image?? Why would i do that if its on your host?
18:46 sean-k-mooney hi not sure if this is the right place to ask but can fuel be deployed in vm hosted on an openstack cloud?
18:49 mwhahaha the centos docker image gets loaded into docker on the build host
18:49 mwhahaha it's the thing that gets pulled down
18:49 mwhahaha so if you are looking to build off line, you need to export the centos docker image (out of docker) and import it on your offline build host prior to building or it'll fail because it can't pull it down
18:53 Guest42390 ok makes sense. SO, mirror all repos, import docker centos image
18:53 Guest42390 then build as normal
18:54 mwhahaha most likely
18:54 mwhahaha you'll also need to provide a local version of the git repos as well

21:43 ub joined #fuel-dev
21:52 mwhahaha for the centos mirrors there's reposync and i think there's a debian equivalent for debian mirrors
21:52 AlexAvadanii aptly for debian
21:53 AlexAvadanii or createrepo, which is more spartan, but just as powerful ... I like aptly :)
