04:35 ArminderS [08-Nov-13 01:04] <@xarses> to re-run, on the first controller modify /etc/astute.yaml change role = .. to role = primary_controller
04:35 ArminderS do you mean to change to role = primary_controller
04:35 ArminderS or role = primary-controller
04:35 ArminderS there's underscore in what you told
04:36 ArminderS it is going to be underscore or hyphen?

04:59 xarses hmm
05:01 xarses primary-controller
05:05 ArminderS had thought so too, thanks for confirming

15:54 ogzy i am trying mirantis with vitualbox installation, do we need to assign values to vm_slave_second_disk_mb, vm_slave_third_disk_mb
16:01 Nikolay joined #fuel
16:02 MiroslavAnashkin <ogzy>: There are default values.
16:02 MiroslavAnashkin <ogzy>: you may leave both values unset.
16:04 ogzy MiroslavAnashkin: do i need to assign ceph osd while creating controller and compute?
16:04 ogzy MiroslavAnashkin: i tried 2 node installation
16:10 MiroslavAnashkin <ogzy>:Do you really need Ceph? Yes, you may combine Ceph nodes with others. But 2 Ceph nodes are the very almost non-working minimum. It will create 2 OSD plus one monitor on just 2 nodes and will work sloooow.
16:10 ArminderS joined #fuel
16:10 MiroslavAnashkin So, if possible, please use 3+ nodes for Ceph

18:35 anoopl hi
18:36 anoopl when  i use the mirantis iso which base OS is used there
18:43 xarses joined #fuel
18:45 anoopl I mean what's the base OS used in Mirantis ISO
18:48 xarses anoopl: the ISO will install the fuel controller node, which runs on CentOS 6.4. the bootstrap discovery node is also CentOS 6.4, then you have your choice of Ubuntu 12.04, CentOS 6.4 or RHOS 3.0 for open stack cluster OS'
18:50 anoopl <@xarses> Thanks so much. I just wanted to know the OS used in node controller. If I use the Ubuntu 13.10 Server as Node controller, is it possible to install fuel manually on it ?
18:51 albionandrew joined #fuel
18:54 ArminderS joined #fuel
18:56 xarses anoopl: it would be difficult.
18:57 xarses The easier path would be to replace all of the 12.04 packages with 13.10 and update the deb repo on the fuel node
18:57 stackarr joined #fuel
18:59 anoopl <@xarses> Thanks man. So when 4.x is released I can use it on Ubuntu 13.10 right?
19:00 ArminderS anoopl: why not use lts 12.04 for extended support?
19:00 ArminderS why would you need 13.10?
19:02 xarses I think it's still 12.04 in Fuel 4.0
19:03 anoopl <ArminderS> I was thinking the newer version would have much better softwares installed
19:03 anoopl I can try it on 12.04 no issues
19:04 anoopl I plan to try the ISO first and if my company still prefer it on Ubuntu
19:04 anoopl I will try that
19:04 ArminderS anoopl: since LTS version has much longer support period that regular versions
19:04 ArminderS its wise to use that
19:04 ArminderS and it always get latest versions
19:04 anoopl Thanks <ArminderS>
19:04 anoopl BTW I could not find any links on installing Fuel on Ubuntu
19:04 ArminderS like havana and newer versions will be availble in cloud archive
19:05 anoopl <ArminderS> if we use 12.04, I can still  i nstall Havana on it right?
19:06 ArminderS aye, its in ubuntu cloud archive
19:06 ArminderS To access Havana from Ubuntu archive, please add the following entries to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
19:06 ArminderS deb http://ubuntu-cloud.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise-updates/havana main
19:12 anoopl Thanks <ArminderS>
19:13 ArminderS havana will have packages versioned 2013.2
19:13 anoopl ok
19:13 anoopl Thanks
19:14 anoopl sorry lot's of question since i'm just starting with Mirantis and fuel
19:14 anoopl is it like apt-get install fuel ?
19:15 ArminderS anoopl: fuel is set of tools to install and setup openstack environment
19:15 ArminderS its not openstack or its fork
19:17 ArminderS fuel master runs on centos 6.4, but allows you to setup your openstack on centos or ubuntu
19:17 ArminderS and rhel (grizzly only as of now)
19:18 ArminderS if you wish to run your openstack on ubuntu, choose to install with that while you create environment for deployment
19:19 anoopl oh ok
19:19 anoopl got it
19:19 anoopl Thanks man
19:20 stackarr Hello, is a dedicated host required for running Fuel Master?
19:21 xdeller joined #fuel
19:25 ArminderS do you mean dedicated host as in server working as fuel master only, no other tasks or you mean physical server?
19:31 stackarr can i run fuel master on a server (physical) that already has a base OS and other services deployed on it
19:32 stackarr i am trying to figure out if i can use an existing server as the fuel master w/o having to overwrite anything on it?
19:37 IlyaE joined #fuel
19:40 angdraug stackarr: you can try to run the fuel master in a vm on that existing server, or try to install all fuel components manually in the host OS
19:40 angdraug in the first case, the tricky part will be making the fuel master serve the pxe network for the openstack nodes
19:41 angdraug in the second case, all you're going to have is the dev doc that shows how to set up a dev fuel environment on ubuntu/debian
19:46 stackarr angdraug: thanks, sounds like it's best (or at least simpler) to have a dedicated physical host for running fuel master
19:49 angdraug yes, and it's more suitable for production use, it will get a fair amount of load when deploying large clouds
19:50 angdraug if you're just playing with it, there's virtualbox demo script that will bring up fuel and a couple of openstack slave nodes for you
19:50 stackarr i tried the virtualbox demo.
19:51 stackarr next, i want to use Fuel to bring up a small lab deployment of OpenStack (about 4 nodes)
19:54 MiroslavAnashkin <stackarr>; Yes, it is the best way.  Please, do not hesitate to visit <http://docs.mirantis.com/fuel/fuel-3.2/>, there are many answers to the possible questions.
19:55 ArminderS is ceph for files/ephemeral/root storage anywhere in your pipeline/going to release anytime soon?
20:19 MiroslavAnashkin <ArminderS>: First, we are going to make already available Ceph related features (like RadosGW) reliable. Currently these are a kind of experiment because of great demand from customers. Next, we are targeted to include Ceph into migration scenarios. These are the Ceph targets for Fuel 4.0. Other targets are 'nice to have'. Since the last round date (summit at Hong Kong) had passed, we are focused on the product quality. But, as soon as our
20:19 MiroslavAnashkin service team implements something on the customer side, they add the implemented to the Fuel. So, the features you are asking for may appear earlier than planned.
20:20 ArminderS sounds good
20:20 ArminderS thanks MiroslavAnashkin

20:52 angdraug ephemeral storage on rbd may show up pretty soon, if it's not in 4.0 it will be easy to enable it there. live migrations for VMs based on ephemeral storage in rbd involves a lot more moving pieces, but it's also pretty high on our priority list

23:36 xarses dhblaz: have you seen https://github.com/Mirantis/fuel/pull/806
23:37 xarses if you apply the patch and enable it in your site.pp it should enable vlan splinters on all nodes with kernels less than 3.3
23:37 dhblaz This would only be for new deployments, right?
23:57 xarses you could allways re-run puppet if you need
23:59 dhblaz Did you say this would cause problems with the controllers?
