03:07 jhurlbert does anyone have any ideas about the Ceph error I ran into earlier?

12:54 Dr_Drache morning TVR___
12:54 TVR___ morning sir..
12:54 Dr_Drache I hate automated tape catalog
12:58 MiroslavAnashkin it is just machine. Why do you hate machine instead of its creators?
12:58 Dr_Drache MiroslavAnashkin, because, the firmware was programmed by idiots. and I say that with the most respect.
13:05 saju_m joined #fuel
13:05 Dr_Drache "ohh, tape breaks, so we are going to spin the drive at max speed for as many hours as it takes to find the broken end"

13:35 Dr_Drache MiroslavAnashkin, is it time for me to test ubuntu deployment?
13:35 Dr_Drache :P
13:36 TVR___ thinking of the tape slapping reminded me of when I was a kid and my cassette player in my car would eat a mix tape because I put the cassette in before the car warmed up internally and it would drag and break... thinking back to me with a razor blade cutting and splicing with superglue...
13:36 TVR___ heh
13:37 Dr_Drache yea, this is a LTO6 drive.
13:37 Dr_Drache not happy, having a replacement sent out.
13:40 Dr_Drache MiroslavAnashkin,
13:40 anotchenko joined #fuel
13:40 MiroslavAnashkin ?
13:40 Dr_Drache how do you test performace/detect bottlenecks.
13:40 Dr_Drache I have a feeling my volume creation is slow.
13:41 TVR___ any ceph performance tests would be greatly appreciated from me as well..
13:42 MiroslavAnashkin I saw image import took 40 minutes on SSD drives. And it was just 9 gigs image/
13:42 Dr_Drache yea.
13:42 Dr_Drache i just need something to show myself i'm "within" expected OS speeds.
13:42 TVR___ the package 'stress' is good for testing server performance.. but anything for testing drives?
13:43 Dr_Drache TVR___, got a link to that package usage?
13:43 Dr_Drache https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Governance/CoreDefinition <--- nice BTW
13:43 TVR___ http://www.opensourcetesting.org/performance.php it's on the bottom
13:44 MiroslavAnashkin Dr_Drache: I already got all. hope all the final, components of patch. But I'd like to test them first myself, since there are several persons interesting in this patch.
13:44 Dr_Drache MiroslavAnashkin, that's fine, just checking on the progress, I am holding off on some testing, since cent isn't production for us.
13:45 MiroslavAnashkin There are 2 bottlenecks. Openstack and network. For network - we test network speed between VMs
13:45 MiroslavAnashkin For OpenStack - create script, which starts or creates VMs in a batch
13:46 anotchenko joined #fuel
13:53 phamby joined #fuel
13:54 Dr_Drache that's fine and dandy, but there are no pre-made scripts, that can be repeatable, so there are #'s to compair?
13:55 Dr_Drache or, teach me how to spell?
13:58 MiroslavAnashkin Dr_Drache: I have no such scripts as well.
13:59 Dr_Drache for the benchmarking, or teaching me to spell?
14:04 MiroslavAnashkin For benchmarking
14:05 Dr_Drache sorry, tryed to inject some humor
14:17 TVR___ do we have any PDF or documentation on what the upgrade path will look like for fuel? If I built a 30 node cluster today, with a single fuel node, and the next version of fuel was released with HA for the fuel node, what would the upgrade path look like? If it was production?
14:19 MiroslavAnashkin So far we only think on how to upgrade. First upgrade possibility appeared in Havana
14:21 MiroslavAnashkin There are upgrade recommendations available here, at section 18 http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-ops/openstack-ops-manual-trunk.pdf
14:26 Dr_Drache so, no upgrade path for fuel.
14:30 mattymo Dr_Drache, ask anyone who has done this in production with success. It involves moving VMs around, stopping all services on all controllers, taking the DB offline, upgrading rpms, migrating DBs in order, then starting it back up, testing, then finally tell compute and storage to reconnect
14:31 mattymo we're preparing for it now, but it just takes time to work out a solution that works without any intervention
14:32 Dr_Drache mattymo, I was clairfying the anwser.
14:33 Dr_Drache it wasn't just a "openstack" it was fuel question. I'm around the same process as TVR___ , more than one vendor wants to take over my deployment.
