14:32 Gil_McGrath I deployed an openstack test environment using fuel 4.1 and I also load the F17-x86_64-cfntools image - but the health checks fail with "Is not implemented for this deployment mode" - I thought heat was included by default?  Any suggestions to help me fix this?

14:51 rnelan who wants to answer a question about public network and floating ips?
14:51 Llew joined #fuel
14:51 MiroslavAnashkin ?
14:51 rnelan Miros? you have time?
14:52 rnelan Miroslav.. sorry..
14:52 MiroslavAnashkin Do not hesitate, simply ask. Even if there is nobody - we read the logs of this chat.
14:53 rnelan ok, for an HA setup, 3 controllers, 2 computes and one cinder... fuel is making me use many public ip's.. I am trying to get a feel for how many is necessary.. then allocate the rest of what I have to float... so.. how many?
14:53 rnelan ok, thanks!
14:53 aedocw_ joined #fuel
14:54 MiroslavAnashkin Public IP==Floating IP
14:54 rnelan so.. why do I have to have a public IP on the cinder nodes?
14:54 MiroslavAnashkin So, it depends on VM number you are going to access from external network/Internet
14:54 rnelan so for my setup, 7 servers.. I need 7 publics and 7 floats?
14:55 rnelan ahh..
14:55 sanek joined #fuel
14:55 rnelan I am trying to figure out what fuel is asking for.. it only says that there arent enough ips in the pool... thanks for helping..
14:56 rnelan ok, I dont need to access cinder from the outside world..
14:56 rnelan nor do I need to get to all 3 controllers..
14:57 rnelan but I do need to get to all the vm's on the compute nodes.. so........ if I have a pool of 13 oublic IP;s... this is difficult
14:57 MiroslavAnashkin Floating IP range is sub-range from Public/External IP pool.
14:57 rnelan yes
14:57 rnelan in my case... I have 71.163.1.102-110/24
14:58 rnelan plus 4 more that I reserve for other use

15:01 rnelan thanks for helping me understand Miroslav..
15:02 nikalgiv Miroslav: hello
15:02 MiroslavAnashkin OK, then you have to set IP Range in public section at least 71.163.1.102 to 71.163.1.114 plus one more address for Gateway.
15:03 e0ne_ joined #fuel
15:03 nikalgiv I managed to get rid of stuck environment by using /opt/nailgun/bin/manage.py
15:03 MiroslavAnashkin AND set Floating IP range in Neutron L3 Configuration section like 71.163.1.102 to 71.163.1.114
15:04 rnelan aaaahhhh
15:05 rnelan so the floating addresses are a subset of the public group?
15:06 MiroslavAnashkin yes, exactly
15:07 rnelan and, I need a miimum of x number of nodes = x number of publics..
15:07 MiroslavAnashkin nikalgiv: What have you done to manage.py?
15:07 MiroslavAnashkin rnelan: yep
15:08 MiroslavAnashkin rnelan: but not nodes - VMs
15:08 rnelan danke! I am sure that the guides tell us that somewhere but the prefilled blocks in fuel lead a person to believe that the networks are consecutive...
15:09 MiroslavAnashkin Public IP range exists inside virtual external OpenStack network. It does not intersects with OpenStack host nodes IP addresses
15:09 mihgen joined #fuel
15:11 MiroslavAnashkin Node IP addresses are assigned from Management and Storage networks.
15:12 rnelan ok, understand now. I was only confused with the public/floating part..
15:12 rnelan I am waiting for my environment to delete right now.. once done, I will try the ip addressing you suggested..

15:44 vk ok
15:46 vk we need to automatically send emails like "... merged a request with -1 from fuel ci" to fuel-dev in that case :)
15:46 xarses fuel-web/nailgun/nailgun/test/integration/test_stop_deployment.py:73 should be self.db()... not db()...

15:52 rnelan I am trying to use 71.163.1.102-110/24 for the public network and 71.163.1.106-110/24 for float..
15:54 mihgen how we ended up with merging something with -1 ?

16:00 xarses rnelan: Unless I'm missing something, It looks like the public and floating do intersect 102-110 and 106-110
16:00 MiroslavAnashkin rnelan: What is your gateway for public?
16:01 rnelan 1.1
16:01 MiroslavAnashkin rnelan: Gateway IP address should be inside Public range, if I remember correct
16:02 rnelan hmm.. I will try it..
16:02 nikalgiv Miroslav: sorry - here is reply from <meow-nofer>
16:03 nikalgiv source /opt/nailgun/bin/activate
16:03 MiroslavAnashkin nikalgiv: Ah, that's OK.
16:03 nikalgiv cd /opt/nailgun/bin/
16:03 nikalgiv python manage.py dropdb && python manage.py syncdb && python manage.py loaddefault
16:04 rnelan so, got the same error and also a new one.. intersection with gateway..
16:09 rmoe joined #fuel
16:11 MiroslavAnashkin Oh, looks like I remember wrong.
16:12 rnelan :)
16:13 MiroslavAnashkin Public and Floating should be different ranges from the same network segment (Netmask from Public section). Gateway IP should belong to the same segment but should be outside both ranges
16:13 rnelan Yes, I understand that now.. but... fuel wants me to have an equal number of ip's in the public network as there are nodes..
16:14 mihgen joined #fuel
16:14 rnelan I dont know what the relationship of floating ip addresses to public addresses or floating addresses to nodes is..
16:14 rnelan I also dont understand why we must have public ip's for cinder..
16:14 e0ne joined #fuel
16:15 rnelan I dont see in the interface configurations where i can remove a network from a node..
16:15 MiroslavAnashkin Floating IP range is managed by Neutron. Public range is managed by external router. And you cannot remove network from the node
16:16 MiroslavAnashkin All networks are necessary
16:16 rnelan aha..
16:17 rnelan so the only question then is how do I know how many floating ips i need? fuel throws error messages, but not specifically how many ips... just that the pool isnt large enough
16:20 xarses rnelan: there will never be a not enough ips error for floating
16:20 xarses just public, management, storage, or fuel admin (PXE)
16:21 rnelan ack.. that complicates my understanding..
16:22 rnelan so, then what is the error referring to?
16:22 xarses one of those 4 ranges not having enough addresses
16:22 xarses currently each node needs one from each
16:23 rnelan management and storage are both full /24's
16:23 rnelan pxe cant be set in the fuel ui
16:23 xarses you should be able to look at /var/log/nailgun/app.log and it should note which one its complaining about
16:23 rnelan all that is left is public and external
16:23 rnelan ok, wait..
16:24 MiroslavAnashkin rnelan: By default the number of IPs in Public range should equal to number of floating IPs
16:25 MiroslavAnashkin PXE range may be configured only during the master node installation.
16:25 rnelan yep, no problems there.. thanks!
16:26 rnelan still working on the public vs floating...
16:26 rnelan the app.log sucks to read... ;)
16:26 rnelan Miroslav, to follow up on your statement:   <MiroslavAnashkin> rnelan: By default the number of IPs in Public range should equal to number of floating IPs.......
16:27 MiroslavAnashkin Simply try to set gateway as 1.1 , public as 102-110 and floating as 111-119
16:27 rnelan the only way I can deploy HA will be with a minimum 10 public ips for 3 controllers, a compute and a cinder..
16:27 rnelan yeah, but my pool runs out at 110
16:28 rnelan remember, I only have 102*110 available
16:28 MiroslavAnashkin No IP from Public and floating ranges are assigned to controllers/compute/cinder or whatever nodes we have.
16:30 MiroslavAnashkin Public is pool of free, not assigned IP addresses to be mapped to virtual machines floating IPs inside OpenStack on demand
16:30 rnelan I hear what you are saying, but it doesnt make my installation feel any better! ;)...
16:30 holser joined #fuel
16:30 rnelan If I have 6 nodes setup, I get an error if I dont have 6 public IPs avail
16:30 MiroslavAnashkin Floating is also pool of free IP addresses, but these addresses are virtual and exist inside OpenStack only
16:33 rnelan ok, thank you... I understand the theory... but FUEL is my problem right now..
16:33 rnelan FUEL wants me to have an equal or larger number of public ip's as I have nodes configured..
16:34 rnelan for example..
16:34 rnelan if I have 3 controllers, 2 computes and one cinder... It wont let me provision with less than 6 public IPs in my range
16:34 rnelan that is part one..
16:35 saju_m joined #fuel
16:35 rnelan so, of my 9 available public IP's, i have to use minimum 6 for FUEL to let me provision just the  public side.. but..... I still get an error..
16:35 rnelan a different error though
16:36 rnelan this one says that there are not enough ip's in the pool.. I assume it is talking about the floating IPs because I progressed a little when I tried to provision... whereas it used to say I needed 6 ip's, now it says I need more pool ips
16:40 rnelan It is pretty bad when I cant understand this.. and I am a CCNP!!!
16:44 MiroslavAnashkin Ok, I specially asked the guy who developed network check.
16:44 holser joined #fuel
16:45 mutex joined #fuel
16:45 MiroslavAnashkin So, the minimal IP number is following: 1 IP address from Public range for each physical node (it is assigned to virtual Neutron router) plus one extra IP for Virtual Public IP if you use HA mode.
16:46 rnelan then, let me try 7 publics and the rest float... give me a few minutes..
16:47 MiroslavAnashkin The remained IP addresses should be assigned to Floating range and at least one of them will be assigned to Admin tenant router at OpenStack deployment and one more IP from floating range will be assigned to each new tenant router
16:48 rnelan now that is starting to make some sense... so, my pool is not large enough to support HA
16:48 MiroslavAnashkin So, for your case, please leave gateway as 1.1, set 7 IP addresses to public range as 102-109 and set the remained 110 to Floating.
16:49 MiroslavAnashkin It should give you ability to deploy, but you will not be able to add new tenant
16:49 rnelan and that wont solve anything.. because the one remaining IP will be assigned to the admin tenant router.. with none available to vms...
16:50 rnelan ok, somewhere in the documentation, this topic should be mentioned.. It changes the deployment strategy a bit i must say..
16:53 holser joined #fuel
16:59 rnelan HAHAHAH.. I just asked my infra manager for more public IP's... He laughed and then yelled at me to get out of his office... I must have made him happy today!  HAHAHA
17:02 MiroslavAnashkin You may use VLANs if your infra allows
17:02 rnelan no, they have to be outside the FW...
17:03 rnelan ok, 7 publics worked with 2 floats... now I have no ip's for the vms...
17:03 rnelan the 2 floats will be used by the admin tenant rtr and the 1st new tenant router..
17:04 I2EZ1ST joined #fuel
17:04 I2EZ1ST left #fuel
17:05 MiroslavAnashkin Actually, admin tenant does not need Public/Floating IP. So, there is dirty hack available, which allows you to use only 4 IPs from Public per OpenStack installation and remained for floating
17:07 rnelan Thanks Miroslav... I wont be hacking this any time soon.. I would rather use my manager to get more IPs... this openstack thing is tough enough to understand with automated tools like fuel available..
17:07 MiroslavAnashkin Or you may use VLAN for public and floating and redirect necessary floating to your available untagged IPs
17:17 rnelan ok, I am signing off for now.. Thans so much to you and Xarses for the the help in understanding.. I hope I can contribute back to the community somehow!
