10:20 racingferret hey guys, congrats on the 5.0 release... well done - thanks for the hard work!

10:25 racingferret so, I have a question about the Fuel upgrade...
10:26 racingferret Is there a way to migrate existing environments to Fuel 5?
10:26 racingferret Otherwise, the upgrade with orphan the Fuel 4.1 deployments...

10:50 MiroslavAnashkin racingferret: Unfortunately, no. Fuel 5.0 is the first Fuel release, capable of holding multiple OpenStack distributions. But there is no already deployed OpenStack environment import from previous releases.
10:59 e0ne joined #fuel
10:59 racingferret MiroslavAnashkin: thanks - I thought that might be the case...
11:09 racingferret Is there an "unofficial" way to do it?  export some MySQL tables and other config?

11:50 MiroslavAnashkin racingferret: So far it is possible to export the nailgun DB from 4.1 and import it to 5.0 with some manual conversion steps. You may take the full database dump from diagnostic snapshot.
11:52 obcecado we managed to work around using a symlink

16:07 designated loaded 5.0 and was adding nodes to the environment and ran into an issue, the log under nailgun API shows the following error: CanNotFindInterface: Cannot find interface by name "public" for node: Untitled (73:68) (id=28, mac=00:a0:d1:ed:73:68).  It just loops forever, completely locking up the environment.
16:08 designated I have the entire diagnostic snapshot if anyone wants to look, it's over 500MB.

16:16 evg designated: hi, isn't it related to http://docs.mirantis.com/fuel/fuel-5.0/release-notes.html#bootstrap-kernel-issues-on-certain-hardware ?
16:17 evg designated: please, log into the node and see "ip link list"
16:17 designated I have 40 servers in the environment, all identical except HDDs, only two of them are causing this issue.
16:19 evg designated: yes, let's try to look into your snapshot

16:20 designated where should I upload this 500MB file?
16:24 designated evg, uploading now, will post link once it finishes.
16:29 designated does anyone have a link to the 5.0 CLI documentation?  I want to see if I can destroy this environment from the CLI so I don't have to rebuild fuel.
16:29 designated nvm i found it in the doco

16:38 mattymo cli didn't change in 5.0 except a couple bugfixes
16:40 designated just discovered something rather interesting.  I created a new environment and started adding nodes, with the exception of the two I had an issue with previously.  Ran into another device that spit out the same error, but if I add them in smaller quantities, they succeed.  Is it possible that adding too many nodes at once is causing the problem?
16:40 designated almost like a race condition in which it errors out because it's not completing something fast enough before another action is taking place?
16:42 designated Diagnostic snapshot - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3JvqsImoSNxbHR3QWthN0xPTEU/edit?usp=sharing
16:50 evg designated: ok, i
16:50 designated disregard my previous comment, looks like i'm still running into the issue.
16:51 evg designated: ok, i'm getting it. Point please problem node there in snapshot
16:53 designated evg, if you look for "CanNotFindInterface: Cannot find interface by name "public" for node: Untitled (73:68) (id=28, mac=00:a0:d1:ed:73:68)" in nailgun api log you'll see what I'm talking about.
16:53 designated I was also having an issue with the node whose mac address ends in 77:e4
16:53 evg designated: ok.
16:54 evg designated: i'll see
16:57 evg designated: it's huge. Have you tried logging into the node and see NICs?

17:44 designated evg, tried adding them in smaller numbers or even one at a time and eventually I hit it.  different node each time.

19:45 designated evg, restarting network services on what, fuel or the nodes?
19:46 designated evg, the nodes had just booted up and I restarted the fuel server this morning before trying again.  no difference.

19:54 evg designated: no no, just restart the network service at the node, please,

19:57 dmit2k hello everyone! regarding the FUEL 5 release, is anyone here able to answer some questions on new upgrade paradigma and so on?
19:58 dmit2k I've got a point that from now on we can upgrade the MGMT node
19:58 dmit2k but what about the rest of the cloud? like controllers, CEPH nodes etc?
19:58 dmit2k say if I install F5, will I be able to upgrade the whole cluster once the 5.1 will be out?

21:13 casanch1 hi, how can I ssh the nodes deployed by Fuel? I was unable to find anything on Fuel UI
21:16 designated casanch1, the ssh key from the fuel server gets copied to the nodes.  you can just "ssh ipaddr" from the fuel master

21:17 casanch1 thanks
21:20 dmit2k Why there is no any info on software versions deployed by FUEL? Ubuntu? CEPH?
21:21 dmit2k Pretty stupid, was waiting for v5 to get Firefly and 14.04 but can't even get any reference to which versions exactly are being used
21:27 designated dmit2k, right under Supported Software. http://docs.mirantis.com/openstack/fuel/fuel-5.0/pre-install-guide.html
21:27 designated they are not currently deploying 14.04 and they are using ceph 0.67.5
21:29 dmit2k designated: thanx for the reply, but is "Supported Software" equal to "Used Software"?..
21:30 dmit2k maybe I just misunderstood the term
21:34 designated dmit2k, wouldn't it stand to reason that if something isn't listed under "supported" it would be highly unlikely it would be "used"?
21:36 designated I've seen explanations in various places that tell why they use certain versions of software, due to bugs or limitations, or they just haven't gotten to the point of adding code to support newer versions.  I'm sure at some point they will support firefly.
21:36 designated I'm a little confused why we're running icehouse on 12.04 instead of 14.04...
21:37 dmit2k yes, exactly! I was expecting 14.03 when Icehouse was announced in F5.
21:37 dmit2k 14.04, sorry
21:38 dmit2k hmm, once again - maybe I just misunderstand the term "Supported". I was looking for something like "is based", "software used", etc

21:38 designated i just wish i could get through a deployment with 5.0, it's been problem after problem...devs have been trying to help but I know they're busy.
21:39 dmit2k same here
21:39 designated i would purchase a support contract but I'm not confident enough that my issues would be resolved any faster.
21:40 dmit2k that is. now I'm facing am even bigger question - should I use f5 to deploy my cloud or wait for v6 etc
21:41 dmit2k the point is _upgrade_
21:41 dmit2k I can't find any references or guidelines how they are going to deal with future versions?
21:41 designated haven't been able to figure out how to upgrade, nothing in the fuel UI that I've seen.
21:41 designated just heard it is supposed to be able to be upgraded
21:42 dmit2k will I be able to install v5 and upgrade to v5.1 orv6
21:42 dmit2k what I can see in announce so far: "Management node is now upgradeable to future versions"
21:42 dmit2k but what about the whole cloud?
21:48 dmit2k I will try rise this question on Launchpad, I think there should be at least a clear definition on used SW versions and a more clear viewpoint on "where do they go tomorrow"
21:49 dmit2k how can I plan using Fuel if there is no clear explanation if I will be able to upgrade later?..
22:05 designated dmit2k, good question.
