14:13 decede What does the Fuel master node use the internet connection for?
14:29 dpyzhov joined #fuel
14:29 mihgen decede: you can configure NTP and DNS on master node to use external sources in Internet
14:30 mattgriffin joined #fuel
14:33 TVR_ that is interesting... I have a jira ticket to exactly that.. we will use the fuel box as our NTP server for each clustetr

16:26 christopheraedo geekinutah: I'm late to the conversation here, but this blueprint targeted for v6 would definitely address what you're talking about: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/fuel/+spec/openstack-from-master

16:46 teknoprep does anyone have a link on how to install controllers inside vmware
16:57 christopheraedo teknoprep: I have it, one second...
16:57 teknoprep thanks
16:58 christopheraedo http://vbyron.com/blog/deploy-openstack-on-vsphere-with-fuel/
16:58 teknoprep will this work with neutron ?
16:58 MiroslavAnashkin BTW, what is your VMWare platform, ESXi or Workstation/Player?
16:58 teknoprep ESXi
17:00 MiroslavAnashkin Yes, ESXi works with Neutron, you only need to configure your virtual networks correctly.
17:00 teknoprep how do i get this to work if the Vnetworks are tagged ?
17:01 teknoprep tagged packets are not passed through a vswitch
17:01 teknoprep unless its set to 4095
17:06 teknoprep ??
17:11 MiroslavAnashkin Separate port groups for each VNetwork+4095
17:11 teknoprep do i actually need seperate physical ports on the server ?
17:12 teknoprep that makes sense
17:12 MiroslavAnashkin It is all described by the link from christopheraedo
17:14 teknoprep let me ask this.. is it easy to change controllers.. lets say i make a server a controller... then i bring in a new controller... can i delete the other controller... then add it in as a compute node later ?
17:17 angdraug joined #fuel
17:18 MiroslavAnashkin Yes, but you may have to change quorum settings for Ceph, Pacemaker and Galera manually in case you reduce the number of active controllers to just 1.
17:18 teknoprep we would have 3 at first
17:18 teknoprep then add 3
17:19 teknoprep then reduce from 6 to 3
17:19 teknoprep or we could do it 1 at a time
17:19 teknoprep have 3... move to 4... remove1... add1 new... remove 1 ... add 1 ... remove 1
17:19 teknoprep still 3
17:19 teknoprep would that work through Fuel ?
17:23 MiroslavAnashkin Should work without any manual interaction. But please check Fuel 5.0 bugs first, there were related bugs, fixed in upcoming 5.0.1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/fuel/+bug
17:23 teknoprep we can upgrade fuel now correct?>
17:23 teknoprep with an update patch
17:24 MiroslavAnashkin Yes, 5.0 may be upgraded to 5.x
17:24 teknoprep nice
17:24 teknoprep does that also upgrade the openstack cluster components ?
17:25 MiroslavAnashkin No, it leaves old OpenStack distributions in order to support already installed environments and adds updated OpenStack/OS versions
17:26 teknoprep gotcha
17:26 teknoprep so i would have to create a new environment.. move over the servers to that env
17:26 teknoprep and then bring the physical hosts over after they are no longer in use
17:27 xarses joined #fuel
17:34 MiroslavAnashkin There is no VM migration between the OpenStack installations. You have to export existing VMs and import them to newer OpenStack version.
17:35 teknoprep yup
17:35 MiroslavAnashkin If you are going to upgrade OpenStack installation in-place, one-by-one machine, you have to upgrade all the existing machines to the latest version of cluster controlling logic first on all machines at one time. It includes Pacemaker scripts and may be other staff/packages, at least RabbitMQ and AMQP drivers. Then you'll be able OpenStack components
17:36 teknoprep so upgrading OS is a PITA ?
17:36 teknoprep in place
17:36 MiroslavAnashkin Then you'll be able to upgrade OpenStack components/nodes one by one
17:37 christopheraedo Definitely upgrading in place is a PITA at the moment, but it's getting better each release.
17:38 e0ne joined #fuel
17:38 MiroslavAnashkin No, not so deep:-) OS upgrade feature is planned in Fuel 6.0, if I remember well.
17:39 teknoprep nice
18:12 adanin joined #fuel

19:28 teknoprep how do i manage Ceph ?
19:28 teknoprep or know how much Ceph is using in Block Storage ?
19:28 teknoprep since i have it set to 3 replica's
19:28 teknoprep i should have 1/3 of available storage
19:28 teknoprep when i look at used storage on the OpenSTack web gui
19:29 teknoprep it only shows where openstack stuck the server as being used storage
19:29 teknoprep not where its also replicated to
19:30 angdraug teknoprep: "rados df" will give you some indication
19:30 teknoprep thanks
19:30 angdraug it won't give you per-osd breakdown, but it will break it down by pools
19:51 teknoprep why do all of the servers look to the fuel master node for DNS ?
19:51 teknoprep the physical hosts
19:53 angdraug that's fuel's default, there should be a way to change that
19:53 teknoprep is there ?
19:53 teknoprep does Fuel even run DNS ?
19:54 teknoprep mirantis fuel server
19:54 angdraug it runs dnsmasq
19:54 teknoprep ok
19:55 teknoprep yeah this sucks
19:56 angdraug looks like dns_nameservers parameter only applies to instances
19:56 teknoprep yes
19:56 teknoprep do i need to change every servers DNS Manually ?
19:56 angdraug so you'd have to tweak cobbler templates for nodes to make them use something other than fuel master for dns
19:58 angdraug also have a look here: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/fuel/+spec/node-naming
19:58 teknoprep ok
19:58 angdraug not exactly what you're looking for, but useful if you want nodes to use your own dns and not break hostname resolution across your cluster
19:59 teknoprep i do not have DNSmasq running on the fuel master
19:59 angdraug it's in a docker container
19:59 teknoprep unless its started somehow else
19:59 teknoprep ahh
19:59 teknoprep well its not working.. nslookup google.com 127.0.01
19:59 teknoprep does nothing
20:00 teknoprep there is no service listening on port 53
20:02 teknoprep wtf
20:03 teknoprep fuel doens't have internet access.. so most of this doesn't owrk then
20:12 f13o_ joined #fuel
20:20 angdraug that would explain why dnsmasq isn't able to resolve external domains
