08:44 kaliya hi devstok, not always but sometimes
08:46 devstok i've used an usb on a object storage
08:46 ykotko joined #fuel
08:46 devstok for the base system
08:57 devstok but i'm trying to add a second one to another object storage but I faced some issue
08:58 devstok because FUEL doesnt see the usb attached
09:02 kaliya Fuel doesn't support USB backend for storage
09:06 kaliya I'm even unsure if cinder or swift support USB backends
09:09 devstok no no
09:09 devstok in the first obj storage
09:10 devstok fuel has installed the base system on the usb key (32GB)
09:10 devstok and in the two HD has installed ceph
09:11 devstok so I'm trying to install the second obj storage in the same way but with no result
09:11 devstok anyway... how can I test the performance of the ceph on a single machine?

09:32 dklepikov devstok : Hello, you can create an instance, than run spew on it.
09:32 ddmitriev joined #fuel
09:33 dklepikov devstok : Specify please what kind of performance you want to measure
09:35 devstok I wanna compare the performance of the openstack with ceph + usb key
09:36 devstok with the performance of the openstack with ceph without usb key for the base system
09:38 dklepikov devstok : in that case you need to create an instance, run there spew (on instance) "rm -rf /tmp/test && spew -i 10 -v -d --write -r -b 4096 10M /tmp/test"
09:39 pawels joined #fuel
09:39 dklepikov devstok : after it - make your changes into ceph cluster, restart instance, repeat test and compare result
09:42 devstok thanks

09:46 dklepikov devstok : I think it is not a good idea to use usb for base system
09:47 alexadamov_ joined #fuel
09:53 devstok but if I'll not use the usb I'll waste a lot of storage
09:54 devstok like this
09:54 devstok https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5Qgcso0qFIrdFBFNlhrc1JzWDQ/view?usp=sharing
09:54 devstok the journal need high performance
09:55 devstok but the base system, once started doesnt need high performance

10:24 dklepikov devstok : do you use ceph for nova?
10:25 dklepikov devstok : and show me please storage settings into fuel UI
10:27 dklepikov devstok : use smaller disk size for instances. when instance creating it creating an ephemeral volume for it
10:33 e0ne joined #fuel
10:35 devstok yes also for nova
10:36 devstok https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5Qgcso0qFIrWTU0RDBhVFZoNU0/view?usp=sharing
10:39 dklepikov devstok : >  how u evaluate this tests? - Instance have access to ceph with speed (335 kb/s with 83 iops/s)
10:40 devstok seem very slow
10:40 dklepikov if you are using usb for base system it can decrease performance i think. Try without it
10:41 pawels joined #fuel
10:42 devstok I think using ceph also for nova degrades the performance

10:42 devstok on the test node with cinder and nova
10:42 devstok the vms spawn in 2 minutes
10:43 dklepikov ceph is a block storage with replica
10:44 devstok factor 3 for 3obj storage is relevant for the performance?
10:44 teran_ joined #fuel
10:45 dklepikov factor 3 means that you will have 3 replicas on 3 different nodes
10:46 teran__ joined #fuel
10:46 dklepikov also you can check your bottleneck  with running iostat -x 1 on all nodes. It will show you drive utilization
10:48 dklepikov run it on all nodes, than start instance creation
10:49 devstok on all obj ?
10:50 devstok how can i discover the master for the obj storage HA cluster?
10:51 dklepikov open ssh on all nodes, run "iostat -x 1", create instance and look on disk load and utilization "w_await  svctm  %util", than show us the result of load when instance start to creating
10:52 dklepikov just screen output

11:50 kaliya devstok: why do you need, it's not reccomended. However, you need to modify the nailgun source code

11:52 dklepikov devstok : Do you want to use free space  (unallocated) for ceph (https://drive.google.com/a/mirantis.com/file/d/0B5Qgcso0qFIrdFBFNlhrc1JzWDQ/view)
11:56 dklepikov devstok : if  "yes" - change disk layout for new node before deployment
11:56 dklepikov devstok : in that case you can use unallocated space for ceph

14:17 dklepikov you can use link above
14:19 devstok ok ..
14:20 dklepikov you must have an odd number of controllers 3,5,7

16:49 neophy I have three node openstack env deployed using Fuel icehouse version on CentOS. I am trying to explore Cisco Nexus 1000V virtual switch. I am getting : "error: Failed dependencies: systemd is needed"  error while installing this VEM RPM on my compute node: https://cnsg-yum-server.cisco.com/yumrepo/nexus_1000v_vem-7.0-5.2.1.SK3.2.1.S0-0.x86_64.rpm
16:52 neophy it looks like https://cnsg-yum-server.cisco.com/yumrepo/nexus_1000v_vem-7.0-5.2.1.SK3.2.1.S0-0.x86_64.rpm RPM is for CentOS 7. But Fuel icehouse is based on Centos 6.
16:53 neophy Is there any work around for this issue?

17:02 kaliya hi neophy I don't know CN 1000V virtual switch, but probably you can do or ask for a package backport to CentOS 6
17:03 neophy kaliya: Is there any tool backport CentOS 7 RPM to CentOS 6
17:03 neophy ?
17:07 MiroslavAnashkin If you have source code and sure, it would work with both Centos version - you need only build tool like https://build.opensuse.org/
17:11 neophy MiroslavAnashkin:oh! no source code. only having RPM.
17:18 evg neophy: I saw your question on centos channel, think you should ask cisco for backporting this package. If they sell it, they have to provide support.
