13:11 baboune hi, using fuel 6, how to apply additional recipes via puppet on the servers managed by fuel?
13:14 tzn joined #fuel
13:16 baboune the idea would be to deploy the pxad/collectd module on all nodes in the cluster.  Is the only option vi mcollective commands? or is there a possibility to edit a manifest file and add the instructions there?
13:17 baboune is the following accurate: http://docs.mirantis.com/fuel-dev/develop/fuel_settings.html?
13:19 baboune and finally the cluster is already deployed Openstack icehouse with neutron + vLAN

13:33 kaliya hi baboune, I would either do via mco or some ssh loop installing and applying the manifest
13:33 kaliya baboune: maybe better asking in #fuel-dev
13:36 baboune kaliya: ... why would #fuel-dev be better for this kind of questions?
13:36 kaliya baboune: because is read by fuel developers
13:37 baboune kaliya: ok. is that an uncommon question to want to use the puppet infrastructure from fuel to deploy packages AFTER the cluster is installed?
13:37 kaliya yes, because after the deployment, the master stops acting as a puppet master for the cluster
13:38 baboune kaliya: I noticed that.. but all the manifests + modules are still there on each of the nodes
13:39 baboune kaliya: so it would seem "logical" to re-use that
13:39 kaliya we're working on improvements to add packages and particular commits after the deployment, but now yet do not ship this feature...
13:39 kaliya yep you can re-use them
13:39 kaliya but also, you can damage the cluster health if something goes wrong
13:41 kaliya baboune: I am checking internally with devs
13:42 baboune so what you would recommend is to push the modules, and then do a "puppet apply" on a specific manifests? sort of making a separate puppet infrastructure for my modules
13:42 baboune kaliya: ok thx. I was going to post on #fuel-dev
13:43 kaliya I would keep in the tree of /etc/puppet/modules, but that guide is for adding modules BEFORE the deployment
13:43 kaliya I know a lot of users wanted this kind of features, adding things, updating things on existing clusters :)
13:45 baboune I suppose adding modules in /etc/puppet/modules is OK if it does not break some dependencies. For the manifests, I can just name it differently so that is distinguishable.
13:45 kaliya yes you can go for other namespaces
13:46 baboune all in all it should be OK.  Thanks. If you get some answer from dev, please post it here :)
13:46 kaliya sure

14:42 martineg_ I created an Ansible inventory plugin for Fuel, to easily push changes to provisioned nodes.
14:42 martineg_ (or create a Fuel plugin w/ recipes and re-provision nodes?)

15:56 LanceHaig Guys I have just installed Fuel 6 on Vmwre fusion and it completed and I can login to the admin UI.
15:56 LanceHaig I have enabled promiscuous mode on the 10.20.0.0 network in Fusion and have assigned a 172.16.0.0 network as a secondary network to my controller VM and my Compute server.
15:56 LanceHaig I am unable to get the Controller or compute node to register with the admin node
15:57 LanceHaig I get a dhcp address but it fails to find an install server on the 172.17 network
15:57 LanceHaig is there something I am missing? Do I need the 172.17. network on a separate NIC on the admin node? I see it is attached to the docker0 interface
15:58 LanceHaig can anyone suggest some debug steps?

16:08 evg LanceHaig: 172.17 lives only inside master, don't care about it
16:10 evg LanceHaig: install server works in 10.20...
16:10 LanceHaig evg I wonder why the pxe guests are then trying to connect to it
16:10 LanceHaig mmm
16:11 evg LanceHaig: pxe works in 10.20 - admin network
16:12 LanceHaig I understand bt my guests get an IP from he 10.20 net then have a DHCP Ip of 172.17.0.x but a client IP of 10.20.2.x
16:12 LanceHaig it gets to the stage where it is at the autoselect Install
16:12 LanceHaig then fails
16:13 LanceHaig I must have done something wrong
16:13 LanceHaig I was following this guide (it is for version 5) http://ehaselwanter.com/en/blog/2014/10/15/deploying-openstack-with-mirantis-fuel-5-1/
16:25 evg LanceHaig: the beginnig seems ok. You've got the right ip, nodes are in bootstrap. And what then? Provision fails suring install?
16:26 evg LanceHaig: during
16:26 LanceHaig Yes
16:26 LanceHaig They don't get to do the install
16:26 LanceHaig they can't find the install server
16:26 LanceHaig ok this is MAD
16:27 evg LanceHaig: they should load install image by pxe
16:27 LanceHaig I just shut everything down and started it up
16:27 LanceHaig and it is working
16:27 LanceHaig I have done nothing
16:27 LanceHaig blimy
16:27 LanceHaig mmm
16:27 LanceHaig Thanks for the help
16:27 LanceHaig :-)
16:28 LanceHaig mad just mad
16:28 LanceHaig everything is working
16:28 LanceHaig and I have reinstalled 3 or 4 times trying to debug
16:28 LanceHaig thanks evg
16:28 evg LanceHaig: np. You just lacked a bit of luck.
