15:59 baboune hello, fuel 6.1, Juno, CENTOS, neutron VLAN, HA, 32 nodes in cluster.  Out of 32, 16 servers fully operational, 16 working fine with Openstack but failing to initiate a network device: "cloud-init-nonet[164.54]: gave up waiting for a network device. Cloud-init v. 0.7.5 running 'init' at".  The 16 failing machines have slightly different HW.  Any known issues with the centOS kernel? Any updates in the last 2-3 weeks?
15:59 baboune Also, any ideas, where to look for the problem?
16:02 Longgeek joined #fuel
16:05 baboune some more info, the failing machines use the C610 chipset from Intel.
16:12 mwhahaha sounds like a dhcp problem
16:12 darkhuy_ joined #fuel
16:12 mwhahaha or at least thats what others are reporting, https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/28297/cloud-init-nonet-waiting-and-fails/
16:14 mwhahaha is there anything different for the 16 that are failing network wise?
16:14 mwhahaha is it like 2 cabs and it's the 2nd cab that's failing?
16:19 baboune two different chassis instead of cabinets but otherwise yes
16:19 baboune is not the network device initialization before the dhcp  in the cloud-init sequence?
16:20 baboune the link is a different problem, in tha tlink, the network device is configured
16:20 baboune in our case it fails before that
16:21 baboune this " * Starting configure network device[74G[ OK ]" does not show, it fails there
16:24 mwhahaha so this error is happening on the provisioning step right?
16:25 mwhahaha for our image based deployment process we fire off a cloud-init after we copy our os image to your machine. here are the templates for what we're doing: https://github.com/stackforge/fuel-web/blob/master/fuel_agent/cloud-init-templates/
16:29 baboune this is nto clear t me.  The server is up and running with centos, and all openstack services as a compute node.  When we instantiate a VM on this server, the VM fails to provision a "virtual" network device.  The image can be any image, TestVM, or latest ubuntu trusty cloud image.  The error is the same.
16:30 baboune so it is not a fuel thing
16:30 mwhahaha oh you're getting that error on a openstack vm not during provisioning
16:30 baboune yes
16:31 baboune and the neutron logs (or openvswitch) do not indicate any errors or problems, the tap is there.  Which is why I ten to think it might be a kernel/firmware problem
16:31 baboune ten=tend
16:33 mwhahaha i wouldn't think so because the vm should be using a virtualized network interface
16:34 mwhahaha or are you doing something else with your vms?
16:34 mwhahaha if you console into the vm are there any interfaces for it?
16:34 baboune nothing special, it is a simple "launch a test VM" on that compute node situation
16:36 baboune ok, now, we have not tried to console through the vm with our own built image.  And since cloud-init fails, we can not ssh/login to the VM through the noVNC link
16:36 baboune so our next step is to launch a VM that we can log into, and then look inside, so I can not answer this question yet.
16:36 baboune the compute NIC is an intel x520.
16:36 mwhahaha yea i don't have anything for your off the top of my head, someone else might chime in at some point
16:37 mwhahaha without console access to the VM itself, it's kinda hard to know what's goign on
16:37 baboune in your opinion it is not the compute fault that the VM can not instantiate a virtual NIC?
16:38 baboune (I mean kernel, etc.)
16:38 baboune the interesting thins is that using Fuel 5.x and icehouse, the exact same server worked fine before
16:38 mwhahaha i wouldn't think so but stranger things have happened
16:39 baboune what is the risk if I try to upgrade the kernel on the compute?
16:40 mwhahaha is there an update available?
16:41 baboune to be honest I dont know.
16:42 baboune just was under the impression that fuel packaged centos is not latest
16:43 mwhahaha depends i guess, you're not using the fedora kernel are you?
16:43 baboune nope.. I tried once and it crashed during the compute provisioning
16:43 baboune but maybe I could try it
16:46 baboune in the RHEL 6.6 page, it says: "Open vSwitch Kernel Module Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6 includes the Open vSwitch kernel module as an enabler for Red Hat's layered products. Open vSwitch is supported only in conjunction with products that contain the accompanying user-space utilities. Please note that without these required user-space utilities, Open vSwitch will not function and cannot be enabled for use. For more information, "
16:46 baboune https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html-single/6.6_Release_Notes/index.html
16:47 mwhahaha i believe kmod-openvswitch is provided by mirantis
16:47 mwhahaha as part of the fuel packaging
16:48 mwhahaha if they weren't your other nodes wouldn't work
16:48 baboune if that is the case, maybe there is a difference then in the 6.1 release?
16:49 baboune I mean something might have changed in the package knod between the one that was used in icehouse (5.x ish) and the new 6.1
16:50 mwhahaha there are updates, probably best to wait for someone who is more familiar with the issue. I saw you created a bug so someone from the mos linux side may be able to help
16:50 baboune yes.  thanks for the help though you made me go forward and think differently about the issue
16:51 mwhahaha no problem, hopefully someone will answer you shortly

18:19 youellet Zabbix role was removed on fuel 6.1 ?
18:22 mwhahaha it's been moved to a plugin
18:23 youellet ho cools! Thanks.

18:40 youellet Thanks!

19:03 youellet mwhahaha, i think i need to create an rpm package with the source on github?
19:04 mwhahaha since 6.1 is not yet release, you might need to use the fuel plugin builder on that source for now
19:04 youellet Thanks
19:05 mwhahaha https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Fuel/Plugins has all the details on how to do that

19:21 youellet yeah, My plugins is build...
19:22 youellet just one error: 'monitoring' is not one of ['network', 'storage', 'storage::cinder', 'storage::glance', 'hypervisor']  i remplaced monitoring to network in metadata.yaml... Build sucessfull. I thinks they will add zabbix checkbox on network section.
19:25 daniel3 joined #fuel
19:26 youellet 1  | zabbix_monitoring | 1.0.0   | 2.0.0    and the check box is on the GUI. Thanks mwhahaha.
19:28 mwhahaha cool, you might want to create a bug with that error message and we can get that addressed
19:28 mwhahaha https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Fuel/How_to_contribute#Test_and_report_bugs
19:29 youellet yeah i will do that. I use last nightly build 6.1
19:39 xarses youellet: get an updated version of fuel-plugin-builder, It was added to the list recently
19:39 youellet i used pip install fuel-plugin-builder
19:40 youellet i will build the updated source of fuel-plugin-builder.
19:40 xarses It likely hasn'y been pushed yet
