17:59 Rodrigo_BR Hello I deployed my first openstack cluster using fuel 6.1 :-)
17:59 Rodrigo_BR Now I need add a new osd in my ceph cluster ...
18:00 Rodrigo_BR how identified the journal partition ?
18:02 Rodrigo_BR [root@node-4 ~]# find /var/lib/ceph/osd/ -name journal -exec ls -la {} \;
18:02 Rodrigo_BR lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 60 Jul 15 05:47 /var/lib/ceph/osd/ceph-2/journal -> /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-360030480008937601d38276a10af1d78-part4

18:02 Rodrigo_BR [root@node-4 ~]#
18:02 Rodrigo_BR i need create a new partition in SSD driver ?
18:12 mwhahaha i know you can add the new ceph nodes via the UI and it lets you adjust the disk partitioning
18:13 mwhahaha but i'm not away of the specifics
18:14 HeOS joined #fuel
18:19 Rodrigo_BR in the UI the new disk wasn't detected
18:23 ub joined #fuel
18:24 mwhahaha oh i see, so is the disk not detected in the bootstrap image?
18:25 mwhahaha or is this a new disk in an existing system?
18:25 Rodrigo_BR in existing system
18:26 Rodrigo_BR i need expand the cluster add the new osd(disk) in ceph-node
18:26 mwhahaha oh so that'd be a normal ceph action and not a fuel action
18:27 mwhahaha http://ceph.com/docs/master/rados/operations/add-or-rm-osds/
18:27 ashtokolov joined #fuel
18:27 Rodrigo_BR Ok, but i can not understand de partition created by fuel in my SSD Journal disks
18:28 ub2 joined #fuel
18:29 mwhahaha someone else might be able to chime in to help on this one, i'm not sure
18:29 mwhahaha if you are just trying to add a new osd, i don't think you have to partition it
18:29 mwhahaha i don't think you need to mess with the journals but i'm not sure
18:31 Rodrigo_BR each osd has the journal partition
18:31 Rodrigo_BR [root@node-4 ~]# find /var/lib/ceph/osd/ -name journal -exec ls -la {} \;
18:31 Rodrigo_BR lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 60 Jul 15 05:47 /var/lib/ceph/osd/ceph-2/journal -> /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-360030480008937601d38276a10af1d78-part4

18:31 Rodrigo_BR 10G each
18:31 * mwhahaha pokes andreww
18:32 * andreww jabs mwhahaha
18:33 mwhahaha xarses: your ceph-foo might understand the question better, i guess he's trying to add a new ssd disk in but wanted to know how the parition scheme was (does he need to add more journal space?)
18:33 * xarses reads the backlog
18:37 xarses Rodrigo_BR: fuel will allocate upto 10gb per OSD device if an amount of one of the disks was allocated as a journal device
18:38 xarses when a journal device is identified in the UI, the partitions will be allocated from it. These are used as bare/raw devices for the ceph joural, we don't put any filesystem on them
18:39 xarses the journal and osd parations them selves receive special GUID partation ID's so that ceph knows who's who and auto mounts them
18:39 xarses there is a document somewhere talking about this
18:39 * xarses looks for it
18:40 Rodrigo_BR ok xarses i will try find the documention
18:40 Rodrigo_BR thanks
18:41 xarses there's a fuel doc somewhere for it, you might have a hard time finding it
18:41 xarses the ceph docs are a bit vauge there and if you follow them you may loose the auto-mount function
18:44 Rodrigo_BR the fuel use 10G per osd for the Journal
18:44 Rodrigo_BR and the remainder of the SSD
18:45 Rodrigo_BR i need partition manually ?
18:45 Rodrigo_BR my ceph-node was deployed with 2 osd
18:45 xarses yes
18:45 Rodrigo_BR now i need add de new OSD(disk)
18:46 Rodrigo_BR but the fuel partion ALL space in SSD
18:46 Rodrigo_BR i need remove the unusable partition ?
18:46 Rodrigo_BR look
18:46 Rodrigo_BR lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 60 Jul 15 05:47 /var/lib/ceph/osd/ceph-2/journal -> /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-360030480008937601d38276a10af1d78-part4

18:46 xarses unusable partition?
18:47 xarses thats correct
18:47 Rodrigo_BR partion 4 and 5 in use for journal
18:47 xarses we will need to create part 6 for the next journal
18:47 Rodrigo_BR [root@node-4 ~]# fdisk -l /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-360030480008937601d38276a10af1d78-part6

18:47 Rodrigo_BR Disk identifier: 0x00000000
18:47 Rodrigo_BR [root@node-4 ~]#
18:47 Rodrigo_BR but the partion 6 exists
18:47 xarses (or whatever the next id is)
18:48 Rodrigo_BR the partition has  43.2 GB
18:48 Rodrigo_BR i need remove and create a new partition with 10G ?
18:49 xarses does anything use it?
18:49 Rodrigo_BR no
18:49 xarses ya, thats probably the left over space then
