10:38 jordanP hi guys, I am goig to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 (fuel master on centos, fuel slaves on ubuntu 12.04), 16 nodes (multinode with HA). I am unsure about the procedure and would love some help/advice
10:39 jordanP it's a preprod setup and I don"t want to break stuff too much
10:39 jordanP I've followed https://docs.mirantis.com/openstack/fuel/fuel-6.1/user-guide.html#upgrading-and-updating-from-earlier-releases
10:39 jordanP I already did ./upgrade.sh --password <password> and also fuel release --sync-deployment-tasks --dir /etc/puppet/
10:40 jordanP it looks like my fuel master is running 6.1 but now I'd like to upgrade my controllers and fuel slaves
10:40 jordanP I don't know what's the next step ?
10:41 jordanP I heard about a script called mos_apply_mu.py, I am unsure whether I should use it ?

12:07 agordeev ogelbukh: hey-hey, do you know anything about lvm logical volumes alignment?
12:10 ogelbukh agordeev: unfortunately, nothing
12:11 ogelbukh agordeev: why?
12:13 ogelbukh agordeev: I guess we need some additional information on the matter, e.g. lvm parameters
12:13 ogelbukh PE size would be nice to get, in the first place
12:13 agordeev ogelbukh: ok, no prob. i'm doing astrology right now by playing with numbers and triyng to figure out the patterns and probably found a clue about the RC of the issue found by froots yesterday. just give me few mins more.
12:14 ogelbukh maybe small BS have to do something with that after all
12:14 ogelbukh less BS - more blocks - larger MD
12:14 ogelbukh can't that be an issue?
12:19 javeriak joined #fuel
12:21 ogelbukh OK, probably not
12:21 agordeev ogelbukh: no, not really, it was huge optimal i/o size value. https://bugs.launchpad.net/fuel/+bug/1546049

14:48 MathiasW after fuel has installed the OS on the target node, What network does it use for the followup configurations?
14:48 MathiasW Does it use the management network for that?
14:50 MathiasW Because i loose connection from fuel master to the nodes at 80% installing ubuntu (Even tho it is done installing) and then gives me Mcollective problem with nodes [{"uid"=>"1", "error"=>"Node not answered by RPC."}
14:50 MathiasW I can ssh from the fuel master to the node tho.

15:05 mwhahaha uses the admin network
15:06 mwhahaha would need to check that mcollective is running on the target node afterwards
15:12 javeriak joined #fuel
15:13 MathiasW mcollective is a service supposed to be running or part of another service???
15:14 MathiasW or wait, That is puppet isnt it?
15:14 mwhahaha the mcollective client
15:15 mwhahaha from the master you can 'mco ping' to check to make sure the client is responding
15:15 MathiasW Yeah, It is running as it should.
15:15 MathiasW ok will try that
15:15 mwhahaha we had some issues where it was getting restarted or double run so it would occassionally cause issues
15:15 mwhahaha check the mcollective logs as well

15:18 MathiasW The "Admin" network you speak of. Is that the same as the PXE network?
15:18 mwhahaha yea
15:19 MathiasW Alright. So it seems to have to do with mcollective then somehow. When i run mco ping i only get replies from the master itself
15:20 MathiasW But i can like i said SSH from the master to the node and the default vlan is configured as the PXE/Admin network.
15:20 MathiasW On our switches.
15:20 mwhahaha check the mcollective logs on the node
15:22 MathiasW yeah i am getting failed attempts
15:22 Liuqing joined #fuel
15:25 mwhahaha are these bootstrap nodes or have they been provisioned?

16:20 mwhahaha no i think we issues when the admin network gets put on eth1
16:20 claflico joined #fuel
16:20 mwhahaha iptables problems :(
16:23 xarses seems quite abnormal to have iptables problems
16:26 mwhahaha it's not
16:26 mwhahaha we don't test it
16:35 MathiasW_ Aye, iptables appear to have been the issue
16:35 MathiasW_ it is now progressing with the deploy
16:37 xarses please file a bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/fuel/+filebug
16:37 MathiasW_ I will once i see it actually finishing the deploy as intended.
16:37 xarses It might set its self back when it runs the firewall task
16:37 mwhahaha no on the fuel-master
16:38 xarses ?
16:38 mwhahaha if you move the admin network from eth1 the iptables rules end up blocking mcollective/rabbitmq stuff
16:38 mwhahaha s/from/to
16:38 * xarses facepalms
16:39 mwhahaha even though the rule gets updated, it's getting blocked for some other reason
16:39 claflico joined #fuel
16:39 mwhahaha so i assume it's related to the docker networking
16:40 xarses In 7?
16:41 MathiasW_ I am using Mirantis Openstack 7.0
16:42 xarses hmm, It's using host networking in docker, not sure why it would be so annoying
16:50 mwhahaha Verilium: did you ever get fuel working on the dl360g7? MathiasW_ is running into some issues with 7 and I saw you asking about it back in october
16:52 HeOS joined #fuel
17:01 MathiasW_ although it is looping
17:01 MathiasW_ Should it not boot into bootstrap through PXE?
17:01 mwhahaha not after deployment
17:01 MathiasW_ right now it is not finding any pxe server.
17:01 MathiasW_ Right..
17:02 MathiasW_ Any way i can force the fuel master to pxe boot it?
17:02 mwhahaha it should just boot locally so i'm assuming the writing to the local disks didn't work?
17:02 MathiasW_ Nothing written to disks no it appears
17:02 mwhahaha if you stop the deployment and reset the env
17:02 mwhahaha it should clear out the cobbler configuration and allow it back into bootstrap mode
17:03 javeriak joined #fuel
17:04 MathiasW_ It is simply trying to PXE boot and as it fails it retries its boot order.
17:04 MathiasW_ Would not removing the nodes from the environment be enough for that?
17:05 mwhahaha yes but i thought you started the deployment
17:05 mwhahaha and unless the deployment errors out i don't think you can make changes until it's been stopped
17:05 MathiasW_ Okay.
17:06 MathiasW_ Well, Nodes removed and the environment reset now.
17:07 MathiasW_ Since it failed so badly mid of deploy i'll check if it works if done from the beginning this time arround
17:07 blahRus1 joined #fuel
17:08 mwhahaha it probably won't
17:08 mwhahaha would need to figure out why nothing was written to disk
17:09 MathiasW_ In either case, Still getting "No PXE" during pxe boot phase.
17:09 MathiasW_ for the iptables issue btw.
17:09 MathiasW_ https://bugs.launchpad.net/fuel/+bug/1457559
17:09 MathiasW_ Was supposedly fixed earlier but doesnt seem like it is fully fix'd
17:10 mwhahaha well that part was updated but it seems the root cause was not fixed
17:10 mwhahaha because yours had eth1 in place where previously it was always eth0
17:11 mwhahaha but yea probably need to reopen that one
17:11 MathiasW_ Yeah, Probably better rather then me opening another one :)
17:16 MathiasW_ what issues was it you saw about fuel on dl360 g7?
17:17 mwhahaha i didn't see anything specifically, i saw Verilium asking about if anyone had tried it
17:17 MathiasW_ Okay.
17:17 mwhahaha i would assume there might be a driver or bios setting issue
17:18 mwhahaha next time it goes to deploy, if it fails you should check the logs for the node to see if there were any errors during the fuel agent run
17:18 MathiasW_ Can't imagine what that would be really tho... Although i wouldn't be suprised either
17:18 MathiasW_ It is still not going past PXE stage
17:18 MathiasW_ It is looking for a PXE host
17:19 MathiasW_ And not finding any
17:19 MathiasW_ And i have even deleted the environment entirely and recreated it.
17:19 mwhahaha so you can manually check the systems in cobbler by doing 'dockerctl shell cobbler' and then just using the cobbler command

18:44 Verilium mwhahaha:  Well, my dl360g7 was acting as a controller node.  I had issues when fuel did the reboots after deploying.  Sometimes, basically, I'd have a kernel panic while the kernel was booting up.
18:45 Verilium I had to manually go and do a reset from ILO, and it would boot normally afterwards.
18:45 Verilium I never "really" figured it out, had to do with NMI watchdog.
18:47 Verilium So, the only method of making things go through successfully, was keeping an eye out on the console, via ILO.  If it panic'd, reboot.  Else, the machine panicks, gets stuck there, while fuel is just waiting indefinitely.
18:48 Verilium Tried a few kernel boot params, to disable NMI watchdog, but they didn't seem to help...
18:58 mwhahaha ok did you have to do anything special to get it to write to disk?
18:58 mwhahaha i assume no
19:31 krobzaur joined #fuel
19:35 Verilium Nope.  That was the only issue I had.
