07:40 magicboiz Hi, I want to deploy Midonet plugin on MOS6.1, but I don't like the idea of nodes configured with a public IP address..... Does it make sense, to have a ceph/storage node configured with a public IP address?
07:41 magicboiz is there any way (network templates maybe) to restrict this? thx

14:30 Guest62647 hey! how can i reset fuel config? Let's say i have 10 nodes in an envornoment..node-1, node-2....node-10. If i delete that environment and i create another one,  nodes will be from node-11, node-12.....node-20

17:51 adam_g xarses,
17:51 xarses hi
17:51 adam_g so im having trouble using the pick() function from the stdlib
17:51 adam_g ive used the neutron db manifests as boilerplate
17:51 xarses is stdlib in your module path?
17:51 adam_g applying manifests locally ends /w Error: Unknown function pick at /etc/fuel/plugins/fuel-plugin-astara-1.0/puppet/manifests/network_orchestrator_db.pp:10 on node node-14.domain.local
17:52 adam_g # puppet apply --verbose --modulepath=/etc/puppet/modules/ --modulepath=puppet/modules/ /etc/fuel/plugins/fuel-plugin-astara-1.0/puppet/manifests/network_orchestrator_db.pp
17:52 vvalyavskiy1 magicboiz: Hello, network templates feature  was introduced in 7.0 release and you can use it to avoid public IPs on  unnecessary nodes. But, it was not implemented for older releases( <  7.0)
17:52 adam_g # puppet module list | grep std
17:52 adam_g ├── puppetlabs-stdlib (v4.9.0)
17:53 xarses adam_g: what does the pick line look like?
17:54 adam_g xarses, heres the whole file http://paste.ubuntu.com/15918071/
18:04 xarses adam_g: I was able to run through much past that in the master node with --noop so the picks should be fine
18:04 xarses it seem's something is wrong with the modules on the node that it's running on
18:05 xarses maybe try to manually sync the modules over from the master and try manually exec it from the shell, you'll what to add --debug --detailed-exitcodes --evaltrace for options in most cases
18:06 adam_g the module is there
18:07 adam_g /etc/puppet/modules/stdlib/lib/puppet/parser/functions/pick.rb
18:08 xarses mwhahaha: maybe you can lend an eye, adam_g is having problems with pick() in a plugin
18:08 Mike_G__ joined #fuel
18:08 mwhahaha update your module path in the task
18:08 mwhahaha to also include /etc/puppet/modules
18:09 mwhahaha er nm let me reread the issues
18:09 xarses <adam_g> # puppet apply --verbose --modulepath=/etc/puppet/modules/ --modulepath=puppet/modules/ /etc/fuel/plugins/fuel-plugin-astara-1.0/puppet/manifests/network_orchestrator_db.pp
18:10 mwhahaha adam_g: can you rerun with --debug and provide the output?
18:10 adam_g mwhahaha, http://paste.ubuntu.com/15918378/
18:11 mwhahaha oh modulepath needs to be...
18:11 mwhahaha --modulepath=puppet/modules:/etc/puppet/modules
18:11 adam_g oh wait
18:11 mwhahaha it takes the alst one
18:11 mwhahaha last one
18:11 adam_g yeah i realized that at some point
18:11 mwhahaha that's what i was saying for the task, is that your module path needs to include both
18:11 adam_g but seem to have crossed paths back to the broken cmd somewhere in bash history
18:11 mwhahaha :D
18:12 adam_g ta da. thanks for catchin that
18:13 xarses thanks mwhahaha

20:26 adam_g xarses, whats responsiuble for setting up db grants? i can get a db created via (i assume) ::openstacklib::db::mysql but remote hosts cannot access it
20:27 xarses oh, ya the new table should probably be done on the primary-controller
20:28 xarses there's a detached db plugin that shows how to do this
20:28 xarses on sec
20:31 xarses hmm, they don't appear to do anything about remote grant's there
20:31 xarses plugin is https://github.com/openstack/fuel-plugin-detach-database
20:32 xarses mattymo: around?
20:33 xarses could you maybe help adam_g understand how we could grant the remote system db access? Is it like I said, we need to do a task for it on the db node?
20:33 adam_g xarses, TBH im going to just add a TODO for this and hack around it
20:33 adam_g im on a tight deadline
20:34 xarses adam_g: we can, at least run the grant on the primary_controller
20:34 adam_g i can setup the grant manually /w an exec from the remote node insecurely
20:34 xarses but their may be a better way that matt knows
20:35 adam_g im sure there is :)

21:16 adam_g xarses, so im a bit stuck even trying to manuall get a remote host granted
21:16 adam_g xarses, is there some special mysql configuration in place ?
21:17 xarses there was something to do to get the client configured to connect correctly, but I thought that was taken care of already
21:19 adam_g ~/.my.cnf has a ubnch of entries to it on the remote system
21:19 adam_g GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on *.* TO 'foo'@'%' identified by 'foo' WITH GRANT OPTION;
21:20 adam_g ... does not work to even test
21:21 mwhahaha check the openstack service db tasks
21:22 mwhahaha https://github.com/openstack/fuel-library/blob/master/deployment/puppet/openstack_tasks/manifests/murano/db.pp
21:22 mwhahaha as an example
21:23 mwhahaha https://github.com/openstack/fuel-library/blob/master/deployment/puppet/openstack_tasks/examples/murano/tasks.yaml#L20-L32
21:24 mwhahaha adam_g: -^
21:25 adam_g mwhahaha, ive done the equiv, albeit from a remote node
21:25 mwhahaha it has to be done on a controller
21:25 mwhahaha because of the initial grant
21:29 adam_g mwhahaha, so assuming its run there and the db is created there, how does the db client node request its access?
21:30 adam_g or is there something stuffed into astute.yml that contains the db access info?
21:35 jobewan joined #fuel
21:41 xarses we have the other hosts and their roles assigned to them in the nodes hash
21:41 xarses so from the db create task on the primary-controller, we can add the remote hosts to the ACL
21:42 xarses for example, we can select the hosts with the following snippit https://github.com/openstack/fuel-library/blob/master/deployment/puppet/osnailyfacter/manifests/globals/globals.pp#L279
21:49 mwhahaha adam_g: the client can't request access so it has to be provisioned prior. So the db tasks should create the db and setup the grants
21:49 adam_g mwhahaha, and the credentials are shared to the client via astute.yaml?
21:50 mwhahaha for the normal openstack services yes, depends on what you're actually trying to setup
21:50 mwhahaha are you trying to access the openstack services dbs directly or a new db for you?
21:51 xarses the openstack controllers in the combined (default) controller nodes
21:55 adam_g mwhahaha, im trying to create a new db for a service that runs off the controller
21:57 mwhahaha xarses: do you know of another plugin that tries to leverage the existing mysql cluster?
22:01 mwhahaha adam_g: so i think the credentials can be created via the environment_config.yaml for the plugin which will cause the credentials to be distributed via hiera
22:07 mwhahaha so if you created a db task similar to the one we use as part of the openstack stuff to run on the controller then  you just need to order your client configuration after that runs
22:10 adam_g mwhahaha, ok, i think ive got it. ive got a workaround for the time being
22:17 mwhahaha adam_g: and you can actually have fuel generate the password for you via the environment_config.yaml, example https://github.com/openstack/fuel-plugin-designate/blob/master/environment_config.yaml
22:18 mwhahaha that plugin might be useful for you because it does the designate db creation on the controller
22:21 adam_g mwhahaha, thanks for that
