12:33 toMeloos Hi all!
12:36 toMeloos Trying to deploy nodes with the Public, Private and Storage networks on the same interface which is set to a MTU of 9000 to benefit from jumbo frames. This automatically assigns the same MTU to the Public network as well, but since it needs to interact with our LAN and the internet I assume it should have a MTU of 1500. Can I define the MTU for this VLAN somewhere?
12:46 Abhishek Thanks guys.... DNS was broken up.... I fixed it in "fuelmenu".

12:51 tobias_ hello, i have some questions about fuel, is the fuel 9.0 ready for production-environment? Is there any difference in the plugins for fuel 7 and fuel 9? are they compatible with each other? Is there a plugin for NFS as block driver?

13:45 cbouscal Specifically, have just deployed 9.0. After getting past a libvirt_group_doesn't_exist_error, a basic environment also provisions fine, except that horizon seems to be missing a lot of it's static content files. The UI is not rendering.
13:46 mwhahaha cbouscal: which ISO did you use to deploy?

15:14 tobias_ Not sure if this is the correct channel to inform, but on your site it would be cool to also mention Huawei as compatible on your hardware list

15:53 xarses tobias_: which site?
15:54 tobias_ https://www.fuel-infra.org/
15:54 tobias_ at the bottom
15:54 tobias_ you mention almost all the bigger ones
15:54 tobias_ Each version of the installer undergoes hardware compatibility validation. Fuel is battle-tested on platforms like Cisco UCS, Dell PowerEdge, HP Proliant, Lenovo ThinkServer, QCT QuantaPlex, Supermicro SuperServer, and others. For the detailed information on models and their hardware modifications, refer to the Hardware Compatibility List.
15:54 tobias_ but not Huawei
15:54 tobias_ or well it says "and others" at the end
15:55 tobias_ but still relevant tbh
15:56 tobias_ Huawei are a big player on datacenters both in asia and very soon in europe aswell. Mercedes Benz are running huawei, telefonica are using huawei as servers. Ofcourse your own choice
15:56 tobias_ we are going to deploy Fuel openstack on Huawei-servers like in the next month
15:57 tobias_ xarses, if you have time, could you try to answer a question for me?
15:57 mwhahaha there's a script that can be used to collect the information so it can get added to the compatible hardware list
15:57 xarses I think that represents a list of hardware that we physically have access to and test against
15:57 tobias_ ah
15:57 tobias_ OH!
15:57 tobias_ is that through mirantis then i guess?
15:58 mwhahaha yea
15:58 fritchie should 'octane fuel-repo-backup' be working with Fuel 9 and Octane 9?
15:58 xarses ikalnitsky: can you help? ^^
15:59 tobias_ xarses, do you know if there's a plugin for NFS as cinder backend?
16:00 ikalnitsky xarses: fritchie sorry, nope :( maybe ogelbukh or akscram can help
16:00 xarses tobias_: start with https://github.com/openstack/?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=fuel-plugin some of the more maintained plugins are there
16:02 fritchie ikalnitsky: I doubt it should be working, error includes 'octane.util.subprocess Started process sudo[1577]: dockerctl shell postgres sudo -u postgres psql nailgun' and I don't believe docker is in use
16:02 xarses next I'd search http://stackalytics.com/report/driverlog?project_id=openstack%2Ffuel
16:03 xarses and then lastly, search fuel-plugin in github at large
16:03 ikalnitsky fritchie: yeah, it seems like it's intended to be used exactly on fuel 8
16:03 xarses https://github.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=fuel-plugin
16:04 xarses tobias_: it seems there are some random plugins that enable nfs
16:05 tobias_ xarses, there is a native openstack driver, how is it possible to use that?

16:47 Verilium HmmHmm,, with a
16:47 Verilium With a "default" 7.0 installation, not using ceph, glance will use swift for it's storage instead of the filesystem?
16:48 Verilium Well, this is... unexpected. Especially since I had given more space on the controllers for glance storage. But, I see it's not even going in there, but instead, filling up /, since swift is storing it's objects in /srv.
16:55 mwhahaha yea it uses swift
16:56 Verilium I just noticed the 500G I left for glance in /var/lib/glance has 33M used, pretty much empty.
17:03 javeriak joined #fuel
17:10 Verilium For controller nodes, why would fuel want to create an "image storage" partition, which is /var/lib/glance, if it'll just be unused, since everything's going to swift?
17:11 xarses its required for snapshots, image cache and the like
17:12 DavidRama joined #fuel
17:14 Verilium I've got users who uploaded new images, or made new snapshots, and it all seems to be going into swift.
17:16 Verilium The /var/lib/glance on my controllers has 33M used, 4 directories and 1 cache.db file. Nothing's been changed in there since the initial installation a few months ago. :P
17:18 Verilium It's possible I missed something while reading through docs and such... I just didn't expect images and such to "not" be in /var/lib/glance, since they're all in swift. Otherwise, I wouldn't have given "image storage" so much space in the first place.
17:19 Verilium I'll sync everything from /srv to /var/lib/glance, shutdown swift and make a symlink, which, I suppose, should "fix" my situation.

20:20 xarses AlexAvadanii: they are discovered by the data provided by the nailgun agent (and ohai) so you may want to start there first.
20:24 AlexAvadanii xarses: oh, I'm well aware of that part, we patched ohai and nailgun agent before, but this time I thought I was dealing with the server and I was a little lost in the function calls there
20:24 AlexAvadanii anyway, without further addue, the problem is our boards have virtual NICs, which get trimmed away by this https://github.com/openstack/fuel-nailgun-agent/blob/stable/mitaka/agent#L409, introduced by https://github.com/openstack/fuel-nailgun-agent/commit/01ec3c5501c4275063e81323116d4b65893a220f

22:08 Guest52874 hmm
22:08 Guest52874 want to change name
22:08 tobbe_ ah now
22:08 kur1j tobbe_: try it if you don't mind
22:09 kur1j if you do it through Horizon it fails
22:09 tobbe_ kur1j, yea, what you need to do is basically install a windows machine on KVM, prep it with the VirtIO drivers, then sysprep it
22:10 [HeOS] joined #fuel
22:11 tobbe_ so what you can do is, create a VM on KVM, start the installation of windows, with the ISO, make sure you also have the VirtIO-drivers iso mounted, when you come to the "choose harddrive" option, you go to the VirtIO-iso and choose the correct driver corresponding and it will install it to installation (which is Windows PE).
22:12 kur1j I guess you are talking about these instructions? http://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/windows-image.html
22:12 kur1j in general
22:13 tobbe_ ya you could say so without me actually knew that guide was there :p
22:13 tobbe_ that is exactly what you have to do
22:13 kur1j yeah, I was wanting to avoid doing that haha
22:13 kur1j this stuff is so annoying
22:14 kur1j why it won't boot and then use the drivers is beyond me
22:14 tobbe_ so you do not get it to boot in openstack?
22:14 tobbe_ or on a normal KVM?
22:15 kur1j openstack
22:15 kur1j i just wanted to upload my ISO image of windows and have it boot haha
22:15 kur1j too much to ask apparently haha
22:15 tobbe_ so you can install it fresh?
22:15 tobbe_ yea, sorry that is to much to ask.
22:15 tobbe_ i've tried that one
22:15 tobbe_ doesnt work for alot
22:16 tobbe_ yea it works for my backup-ISO
22:16 tobbe_ acronis backup
22:16 tobbe_ basically
22:16 tobbe_ what i have to do
22:16 tobbe_ is boot it against a empty volume
22:16 tobbe_ i'll try to explain
22:17 tobbe_ but yea
22:17 tobbe_ you had problem uploading it aswell
22:17 kur1j no, I had a problem with uploading https://cloudbase.it/windows-cloud-images/#download
22:18 kur1j it won't upload through horizon
22:18 kur1j I had to do it locally on my controller node
22:18 tobbe_ ah
22:18 tobbe_ could be a bug
22:18 tobbe_ i've had problems with that one aswell
22:18 mwhahaha depends on how big it is
22:18 mwhahaha horizon has a limit of like 10g or something
22:18 tobbe_ ah that explains it
22:18 mwhahaha because of the way doing it via horizon works
22:19 mwhahaha when you upload it to horizon, horizon has to be able to cache it locally then upload it to glance
22:19 mwhahaha where as if you just use the glance command it can just put it into glance directly
22:19 tobbe_ actually i've managed to get our windows server 2012r2 image down to 8.3G
22:19 tobbe_ so i'm happy with that
22:19 mwhahaha mmm bloat
22:19 tobbe_ takes like 2-3 mins to start it
22:20 kur1j ahhh yeah
22:20 tobbe_ what i did was converting it with qemu-img convert
22:21 tobbe_ and it got alot smaller
22:21 kur1j this image from https://cloudbase.it/windows-cloud-images/#download is like 14GB as a qcow2
22:21 kur1j so yeah I guess thats it
22:21 tobbe_ yea we did our own windows image
22:22 tobbe_ also it takes forever to download that one from cloudbase

22:40 mwhahaha way too much has changed since 6.0 for it to probably still work
22:40 tobbe_ i asked like alot of hours ago

22:41 mwhahaha it might not be too hard to port

22:42 tobbe_ but it also mentions that they are using MOS 6.0
22:42 mwhahaha yea the plugins have changed alot
22:42 tobbe_ which is i guess very equal to fuel 6.0
22:42 tobbe_ # Plugin name

22:43 tobbe_ i'm europe paris time
22:44 tobbe_ i mean, the NFS driver is there. it's even recommended to run shared storage through NFS when you run RHEL OSP
22:44 tobbe_ o_O
22:45 mwhahaha i'm mountain standard time
22:45 mwhahaha so i get on like 9 hours ago
22:45 tobbe_ that should work though

22:45 tobbe_ it's 1 AM right now
22:45 tobbe_ here
22:46 tobbe_ i'll ping ya tomorrow
22:46 mwhahaha someone might pipe up as well in russia but if not i'll check it out in the morning
22:47 tobbe_ hehe, this is for the RHEL OSP 8.
22:47 tobbe_ A basic Overcloud uses local LVM storage for block storage, which is not a supported configuration. It is recommended to use an external storage solution for block storage. For example, see Section 6.7, “Configuring NFS Storage” for configuring an NFS share for block storage.
22:47 tobbe_ that is funny as hell
22:47 tobbe_ shouldnt ceph be the recommended way to do block aswell?
22:48 tobbe_ ah well
22:48 mwhahaha i think for anything at scale that is fuel recommends, but there are a few other storage plugins out there
22:48 tobbe_ ya
22:48 tobbe_ do you know if it's possible to add ceph afterwards?
22:48 tobbe_ i mean deploy dedicated cephnodes
22:48 tobbe_ into a deployed fuelenv?
22:49 tobbe_ i know that RHEL OSP requires atleast one cephnode to be able to expand it afterwards
22:50 mwhahaha might be possible in 9
