10:07 Fule Hi
10:08 Fule im new and i need some guidens for open stack
10:24 ogelbukh Fule: which kind of guidance you are looking for?

10:41 reauxmont Hey, i'm pretty confused with regards to the licensing model of mirantis. When downloading mirantis openstack, I have to agree to a document in which a 20 Node limit is mentioned, but other than that, there is absolutely no mention of any cost as long as i'm not interested in enterprise support.
10:42 reauxmont I assume I'd have to purchase a support subscription to scale beyond 20 nodes, but since it's so hard to find anything on that, I thought i'd ask here first. Is that correct?
10:50 zubchick Hi folks, please merge backport https://review.openstack.org/#/c/343589/

12:09 Sketch reauxmont: i haven't seen that, but we inquired with them about support and they have a 200 node minimum
12:09 Sketch so if there is a 20 node limit, it doesn't have anything to do with support

12:21 Fule Hi, ogelbukh... i found some tutorials, so i think first to start from openstack.org
12:23 Fule and pdf openstack Cloud Computing Cookbook 3'th edition
12:24 Fule if some 1 have more suggestions for learning openstack...Thanks

14:05 Sketch so, i followed these directions to inject a driver in bootstrap.  it worked for bootstrap.  but what do i have to do to get them into the provisioned OS installed by fuel?

14:08 Sketch 9.0, from mirantis
14:08 mwhahaha there's a way to include extra packages via the settings
14:09 Sketch aha
14:10 Sketch thanks :)

15:21 reauxmont @Sketch: "Evaluation Use. Customer may use up to 20 Nodes of Mirantis OpenStack Hardened Packages as provided in section 2.2 for Customer’s non-production internal use for the purpose of evaluating and testing Mirantis OpenStack Software (“Evaluation Use”)."
15:22 reauxmont it says that here: https://www.mirantis.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Exhibit-A-Subscription-Services-February-2016_online.pdf
15:23 reauxmont But I can't really find anything else about it, not even where I could purchase more nodes :D
15:31 Egyptian joined #fuel
15:40 Sketch sounds like that's part of some subscription service
15:47 reauxmont Yeah, but "Mirantis OpenStack" is listed as a subscription service in the document (1.3).. that's what confused me. Did you try to scale beyond 20 nodes?
15:50 Sketch nope
15:50 Sketch i'm currently at 0 ;)
15:50 mwhahaha there's not key restrictions, it's more of a support thing
15:51 Zer0Byte__ joined #fuel
15:54 GMAzrael you get no support for evaluation anyway
15:54 GMAzrael so it's kind of a moot point
15:55 reauxmont yeah, that's why I was thinking that i'm probably not allowed to go beyond 20 nodes without having some sort of subscription
15:58 Sketch it sounds to me like they give you 20 free unlicensed copies for testing purposes as a part of your support subscription of 200+ nodes.
16:10 reauxmont But that doesn't really make any sense, it's not like they "give" you the nodes, you still have to provide your own servers, and if there are no restrictions I could have as many "evaluation nodes" as I wanted.
16:10 reauxmont But: I just got a mail from the support and it seems like there are no restrictions, even when not having a support subscription. Yay :)

16:59 GMAzrael psht, I can get support without a subscription?
17:00 GMAzrael That would make my life amazing cause I can't get a mirantis 9.0 build to deploy properly on virtualbox
17:21 goldenfri Has anyone in here upgraded fuel 8 to fuel 9?
17:22 Sketch GMAzrael: i can't get it to deploy on real hardware ;)
17:22 Sketch Failed tasks: Task[primary-database/7]
17:22 GMAzrael oh good, glad to know I am in company
17:22 Sketch well, that's new anyway.
17:23 mwhahaha Sketch: what's the error in the puppet log for that node
17:23 goldenfri The docs don't seem to be accurate anymore, since it looks like they got rid of docker
17:23 Sketch (/Stage[main]/Osnailyfacter::Database::Database_backend_wait/Osnailyfacter::Wait_for_backend[mysql]/Haproxy_backend_status[mysql]) /usr/bin/puppet:8:in `<main>'
17:23 Sketch maybe it doesn't like that i only installed 1 controller...
17:24 mwhahaha it should work with one controller
17:24 mwhahaha so mysql didn't come up, check the mysql logs
17:26 Sketch maybe i should wipe it and start over, it failed due to driver issues, and i restarted it, so something could be in a weird state
17:26 Sketch though: 16:42:48 UTC - mysqld got signal 11
17:26 mwhahaha yea that's normal
17:26 mwhahaha there's another log
17:27 mwhahaha that error shows up in the mysqld log on install, then when we configure logs get put in /var/log/mysqld.log i think rather than /var/log/mysqld/error.log
17:27 Sketch ah
17:28 Sketch i only have the error log so far
17:29 mwhahaha check the fuel master in the remote logs

17:37 Zer0Byte__ how to  upgrade fuel 9.0
17:37 Zer0Byte__ to 10
17:37 Zer0Byte__ ?
17:38 Sketch step 1: wait for fuel 10 to be released
17:39 GMAzrael step 2: ????
17:39 GMAzrael step 3: profit
17:39 Zer0Byte__ ok i ask in another way
17:39 Zer0Byte__ how to upgrade from fuel 8.0
17:39 Zer0Byte__ to fuel 9.0
17:40 Zer0Byte__ ?
17:45 goldenfri I have the same question... tried this, it didn't work: http://docs.openstack.org/developer/fuel-docs/userdocs/fuel-install-guide/upgrade/upgrade-fuel.html
17:47 Sketch there doesn't seem to be much documentation for upgrading anything newer than 7
17:47 Sketch afaict
18:03 goldenfri I guess they want you to pay for support to be able to upgrade

18:31 GMAzrael Task[primary-ceph-mon/4]: Invalid task status! (#<ConditionVariable:0x00000002d16328>).
18:36 mwhahaha GMAzrael: is this the 9.0 mos version or community?
18:37 GMAzrael MOS
18:37 * Sketch notes that he's using mos as well
18:39 mwhahaha i remember seeing invalid task status bugs but they should have all been addressed.
18:39 mwhahaha to be honest the best way to help figure it out is to report a bug with a diagnostic snapshot https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Fuel/How_to_contribute#Bugs

18:57 Sketch mwhahaha: hmm, adding to the package list didn't work when the package was part of a new repo i added (even though the repo is in the repo list).  apt-get install does work, so it did install the repo.
18:58 mwhahaha so you added the package name into the 'Initial packages' list on the provision settings?
18:58 Sketch yep
18:59 mwhahaha does it require additional configuration or should the package 'just work'
19:01 Sketch the package "just works"
19:01 Sketch it's postinstall does everything it needs to do
19:01 AlexAvadanii Sketch: did you by any chance run apt-get update by hand?
19:02 Sketch hmm, nope
19:02 Sketch i don't think i did anyway
19:08 Sketch hmm, maybe i shouldn't have only blown away one node, but this still seems odd:  Duplicate declaration: Host[ch0-stack-02.blah] is already declared; cannot redeclare at /etc/puppet/modules/osnailyfacter/manifests/hosts/hosts.pp:21 on node ch0-stack-03.blah
19:09 Sketch seems like it's confusing nodes somehow
19:09 Sketch after i restarted the deployment after manually installing nic drivers (again)
19:12 mwhahaha no there's a bug around t hat i think
19:18 mwhahaha oh did you delete it and create a new node with the same name?
19:18 Sketch yeah
19:18 mwhahaha that'll be a problem cause we remove old node names
19:19 Sketch well, i removed the node i was trying to reinstall and recreated it with the same name
19:19 Sketch but the name that it's saying is a duplicate is another node that still exists
19:20 mwhahaha yea https://github.com/openstack/fuel-library/blob/stable/mitaka/deployment/puppet/osnailyfacter/manifests/hosts/hosts.pp#L19-L22
19:20 mwhahaha the problem is that we define nodes that exist (first) and then define nodes to remove (second)
19:20 mwhahaha since the name is the same in both groups you get a conflict
19:20 mwhahaha it's a bug in how we handle cleaning up deleted nodes
19:21 Sketch also, i didn't reset my environment when i added packages, so maybe i need to do that
19:21 mwhahaha yes
19:21 Sketch either that or maybe i should use the Auxillary repo instead of creating my own
19:21 mwhahaha or delete the previous provision image
19:21 mwhahaha no
19:22 mwhahaha i don't believe we don't rebuild the image once it's been generated
19:22 Sketch ah
19:22 mwhahaha er
19:22 Sketch i assume resetting will do that?
19:22 mwhahaha i don't believe that we rebuild the image once it's be generated
19:22 mwhahaha yes
19:22 mwhahaha doing a reset should
19:22 Sketch i guess this would be a good time to rebuild my bootstrap too...
19:22 mwhahaha it should also solve your duplication problem
19:22 mwhahaha i'll report that bug
19:22 Sketch yeah
19:26 mwhahaha Sketch: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fuel/+bug/1604547
19:28 AlexAvadanii is it possible the new package was not installed because the packages in that list are only installed at image build? and since the image was already presnet, no rebuild happened, no new package?
19:28 mwhahaha yes that's the problem

20:26 Sketch mwhahaha: doing a reset environment did not do any obvious regeneration (or at least, it didn't take long at all, maybe it regenerated in the background)
20:26 Sketch not sure how to tell if it actually recreated the image
20:27 thiagolib Hi guys, I have the environment mirantis openstack 8 and would like upgrade for 9.   It has  a place with documentation to upgrade mirantis openstack
20:27 Sketch if it's from /var/www/nailgun/targetimages, then it didn't, because the timestamps are all from last week
20:29 mwhahaha Sketch: if you delete the image it'll rebuild
20:31 Sketch ahh
20:33 Sketch what do i have to do to get it to notice they are gone?
20:33 mwhahaha i think it does a check as part of the deployment to see if it needs to build the iamgte
20:34 Sketch ah
20:34 mwhahaha should just be a file check
20:34 mwhahaha there might be another spot it checks let me see if i can find it
20:35 mwhahaha yea i think it's the stuff in /var/www/nailgun/targetimages
20:36 Sketch looks like it, it didn't include my repo in the repolist in the .yaml
20:38 Sketch i rm'd it and hit deploy.  now it says it's deploying, but no files there yet.  i suppose it might take a bit
20:38 mwhahaha yea you can check the logs
20:38 mwhahaha there's an image building log in /var/log on the fuel master
20:38 mwhahaha it'll have the environment id
20:39 Sketch yeah, it looks like it's working on it.
20:43 Sketch and it failed
20:43 Sketch heh
20:43 Sketch maybe because i had a type in one of my package names, whoops
