14:33 kur1j Hello...I think I'm screwed...my network admin didn't want to give me more than part of a /24 for my public. In my Node Network Groups "Public" was given a CIDR of 192.168.0.0/24 from a Start range of 192.168.0.200 to 192.168.0.225. For my Floating Network Parameters I was given a Floating IP Range of 192.168.0.226 to 192.168.0.254. I'm out of network addresses unfortunately. What would be the easiest and cleanest way to fix this?
14:37 code-R joined #fuel
14:39 GMAzrael Kur1j: create a router using one of your IP addresses and create a new neutron network with a larger IP block. You will need a static route set on your external routers, but it will work
14:41 kur1j GMAzrael: Are you talking about the "Add New Node Network Group" in fuel?
14:41 GMAzrael no, I'm talking within openstack
14:42 GMAzrael using neutron, you can create a second external network and attack it via a router to your primary 192.168.0.0 network
14:42 GMAzrael then use that as your new floating IP space
14:42 GMAzrael it's not pretty, but it is functional
14:42 kur1j what would be the better way to do it?
14:43 kur1j without completely destroying the entire cluster is there anyway to give it an new entire new subnet?
14:45 kur1j e.g. change Public  172.16.0.0/16 or something?
14:45 GMAzrael doing it in newtron is the only way I know of without redeploying
14:45 kur1j What does the "Add New Node Network Group" do then?
14:48 raunak joined #fuel
14:48 GMAzrael you got me there
14:48 GMAzrael believe it's for more physical network connections
14:49 kur1j ugh
14:50 kur1j this really screwed me :(
14:51 kur1j *sigh* they wouldn't listen to me
14:54 kur1j GMAzrael: Sorry, even looking at your example, not sure how that would work either. If I go create a router it simply provides a "External Network" I have to connect to. I only have 1.
14:54 kur1j I can only select "Admin_floating_net"
14:55 GMAzrael In neutron, you would create a new floating net
14:56 GMAzrael in your hardware routers, you would create a static route 192.168.0.XXX -> New Subnet
15:01 obondarev joined #fuel
15:01 kur1j hmmm, so I'm confused...what is the IP addressed in "Public" doing then?
15:02 kur1j in Fuel
15:02 kur1j it says "The Public network allows inbound connections to VMs (Controllers and Tenant VMs) from external networks (e.g., the Internet) as well as outbound connections from VMs to the external networks."
15:02 kur1j but I don't get where those are represented in Openstack
15:02 kur1j like in Horizon

15:06 Reepicheep I'm having an issue where one of my controller nodes is stuck in "Error" status within Fuel.
15:07 Reepicheep here is the error in the Puppet log: http://paste.openstack.org/show/586582/
15:08 Reepicheep any ideas why neutron failing on creating / recreating the External01 Network?
15:12 mskalski Reepicheep: your says 'Unable to create the flat network. Physical network physnet1 is in use.'
15:13 mskalski Reepicheep: don't you have another network which already use physnet1?
15:14 Reepicheep I imagine that is the existing running nework.  Openstack seems to be running correctly
15:14 Reepicheep and the node seem to be the current "primary controller"
15:15 Reepicheep here is the section of the astute logs: http://paste.openstack.org/show/586590/
15:20 krypto joined #fuel
15:25 Reepicheep is there a way to have neutron display the physical networks?
15:27 Reepicheep doing a "neutron net-list" show the network but it is currently named "Internet"  It has the correct subnet on it
15:28 Reepicheep could it be that fuel thinks it should be called "External01",  bwt the subnets current name is "External"
15:32 mskalski Reepicheep: what you get from hiera -h quantum_settings, what is the name of floating net?
15:32 soerens joined #fuel
15:34 Reepicheep mskalski: I currently get "nil" is that the right item to lookup?
15:34 Reepicheep btw, I'm running MOS 8.0
15:35 Reepicheep oh.. sorry I did the lookup on the fuelmaster
15:36 Reepicheep the floating net is "External01"
15:38 mskalski are you adding new nodes? I mean root cause is that there is already existing public network and manifest is trying to add new one which is not possible, I'm not sure in which circumstances this task is rerun
15:41 Reepicheep I added a new controller node after removing one for maintanance
15:42 mskalski did you also change name of this public network?
15:42 Reepicheep the new controller node and the other contoller nodes all have the status "ready" just the one hase an error

15:42 Reepicheep I did not .. but it is possible that a coworker may have the instance has been running for a while

17:55 kur1j GMAzrael: couple more questions if you don't mind. Setting up another external network the way you described, will it slow anything down?
17:55 GMAzrael not really
17:56 kur1j so I see the admin_floating_net has a physnet1, I assume I won't need to attach it to that?
17:57 kur1j I guess I don't quite see how the system will know that my floating IP addresses shoudl come from this new "pool"
17:58 GMAzrael Neutron tells which network is available
18:00 GMAzrael https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/11416/how-do-i-create-a-floating-ip-pool/
18:02 kur1j GMAzrael: so at that point all of the network floatingips, router_gateways, etc would go over that?
18:02 GMAzrael So what I did was create a router attached to the admin_floating_net
18:02 GMAzrael and attached my second floating network to that one
18:03 GMAzrael Then using the static route it allows traffic to go there
18:03 kur1j hmmm, I'm confused as hell with how OS's networking is done.
18:04 kur1j GMAzrael: so doing this...will this be overwritten by Fuel if I redeploy?
18:04 GMAzrael All VM communication is handled internally to the network
18:04 GMAzrael If you delete all of your nodes, yes
18:04 GMAzrael IF you redeploy, the network should stay the same
18:04 GMAzrael The redeploy does checks for that has changed/not changed
18:04 kur1j well I meant if I delete a machine, add a machine
18:05 kur1j or*
18:05 GMAzrael Openstack holds the config in the HA cluster
18:05 GMAzrael If you have multiple nodes
18:05 kur1j GMAzrael: it does mess with configuration files though...I'm 100% of that...
18:06 GMAzrael indeed
18:06 kur1j I've edited /etc/nova.conf and every time I redeploy it overwrites it
18:06 kur1j adding a node*
18:06 GMAzrael what I am talking about is stored in the mysql db though and replication over the Galara cluster
18:06 kur1j Galara?
18:07 GMAzrael Galara is used to replicate the MySQL DB of the controller nodes
18:07 kur1j ahh
18:07 kur1j i only have 1 controller atm, planning on adding 2 more
18:08 GMAzrael so yea, once it replicates the change will follow it
18:08 kur1j so back on those instructions, what is "SPECIAL_OPTIONS"
18:09 GMAzrael If there are other things
18:12 kur1j what is the extra -- doing?
18:12 GMAzrael http://docs.openstack.org/user-guide/cli-create-and-manage-networks.html
18:41 Miouge joined #fuel

18:49 kur1j GMAzrael: Ok I created an external network. At this point, if I create a route on my physical external router for the subnet (e.g. 172.16.0.0/24) it would work? Or am I missing something?
18:53 Julien-zte joined #fuel
18:53 GMAzrael that should be it. Did you attach the new network to the router?
18:53 kur1j hmmm, which router?
18:53 kur1j I need a router in OS?
18:54 GMAzrael yes
18:54 GMAzrael that one router will need to attach to your floating network
18:56 kur1j so really I would need to create another subnet thats part of the original public net?
18:58 Reepicheep mskalski: Thanks for your help .. It's all happy now. it was the fact that the network and subnet had been renamed
19:00 kur1j I guess I don't understand why I need to route between the original public floating network and this floating network too
19:17 Miouge joined #fuel
19:28 GMAzrael Kur1j:because your floating IP's are designed to be routable to the external infrastructure
19:29 kur1j GMAzrael: so wouldn't that mean that its basically doing a NAT?
19:29 GMAzrael No
19:30 GMAzrael by not doing the static route, it will be NAT only with no ability to have inbound traffic
19:32 kur1j ok so I'm not quite sure how to create the router in OS then. Because I can't attach it to both at the same time?
19:32 kur1j if I go to add an interface I can add a "subnet" to the router which doesn't let me select another external network.
19:40 GMAzrael From Horizon, In the admin project, create a router attached to the external network Admin_floating_net
19:40 kur1j correct, did that
19:42 kur1j but no way for me to add another external network
19:42 kur1j to its interface
19:43 GMAzrael what do you mean another external network?
19:44 kur1j so how does my "new" floating network know to use this router
19:44 GMAzrael Attach it to the router
19:44 kur1j Is that not possible in Horizon?
19:45 kur1j when I go to add another interface  (e.g. mynew_floating_net) there is nothing to select
19:45 GMAzrael Did you create a subnet within the network?
19:46 kur1j within the admin_floating_net?
19:46 GMAzrael no the new network
19:47 kur1j there is the "external" subnet
19:48 GMAzrael Did you create via neutron CLI?
19:48 kur1j mynew_floating_net: (e3a3696b-b06c)172.16.0.0/24IPv4172.16.0.1Edit Subnet
19:48 kur1j yes
19:48 GMAzrael with the --router:external=True?
19:48 kur1j yup
19:48 kur1j External Network Yes
19:49 GMAzrael neutron router-interface-add $routername mynew_floating_net
19:51 kur1j mynew_floating_net was the subnet inside of that but yes that added it
19:52 kur1j it didn't show up in Horizon
19:54 GMAzrael So you look at the new router
19:55 GMAzrael it should say Network name: admin_floating_net
19:55 failart_ joined #fuel

19:56 kur1j https://gist.github.com/vaskokj/5434eeca2b09d2a504923c59d224d4f5
19:57 GMAzrael Is your new network shared?
19:57 GMAzrael or are you staying within the admin project?
19:58 kur1j GMAzrael: https://gist.github.com/vaskokj/9212fe0de2ee6c5ea46ab5f9ebcc0217 that is the router and "interfaces" tab in Horizon
19:58 GMAzrael looks good there
19:58 kur1j GMAzrael: I am in my project
19:59 GMAzrael believe you need to share the external network
20:00 GMAzrael wait, are you associating an IP via the interface create or the associate floating IP
20:01 kur1j I can see the external network on a different account
20:02 kur1j GMAzrael: do you mean instance create?
20:02 GMAzrael yes
20:03 kur1j I'm trying to get more public ips because my pool of 25 ips in 192.168.0.225 to 192.168.0.254 is exhuasted
20:04 kur1j so if I go create a new project, and that user creates a new network, they should be able to pull ips from 172.16.0.0/24
20:04 kur1j and also associate "floating ips" to their VMs from 172.16.0.0/24
20:04 Miouge joined #fuel
20:05 GMAzrael Did you share the new network?
20:05 failart_ joined #fuel
20:05 kur1j GMAzrael: no but its showing up in other accounts
20:05 kur1j im testing it
20:06 GMAzrael Did you allocate floating IP's to the project?
20:06 kur1j they have 50 in the quota if that is what you are asking
20:07 GMAzrael neutron floatingip-create mynewfloat_net
20:09 GMAzrael https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E36784_01/html/E54155/l3agent.html#OSTCKl3floatingips
20:10 GMAzrael After you create the instance, you associate the floating IP by requesting one from the new external network. It's a plus sign on the side
20:13 GMAzrael any luck?
20:14 kur1j im doing it now
20:15 kur1j seems to. Now I have get our network admin to make it routable from 192.168.0.0/24 to 172.16.0.0/24
20:16 kur1j thanks!
20:16 GMAzrael so you would add a statick route for the 172.16.0.0/24 to 192.168.0.247
20:16 GMAzrael and 247 will pass the traffic
20:16 kur1j on the physical network router right?
20:16 GMAzrael correct
20:16 Miouge joined #fuel
20:16 GMAzrael Just make sure the users edit their security groups or they will still get blocked by the "firewall"
20:17 kur1j this cluster is only internal so everyone adds remote IP Prefix 0.0.0.0/0
20:18 GMAzrael correct, but the ports are still block unless allowed
20:18 GMAzrael I just forget and wonder why I can't SSH in to my new instance
20:18 GMAzrael or RDP or whatever the service
20:19 kur1j so if they have that 0.0.0.0/0 it will work right?
20:19 kur1j for that service
20:19 GMAzrael correct
20:19 kur1j but if they want to restrict it they would need to add 192.168.0.0/24
20:20 GMAzrael That would restrict it to the address of other VM's in your OS infrastructure
20:21 kur1j well 192.168.0.0/24 is the public address space for the original network
20:22 kur1j laptop plugs into network gets (192.168.0.20) --> (OS Public 192.168.0.244) --> (internal IP of VM is whatever they give for subnet 192.168.23.0/24)
20:23 kur1j now it should be laptop plugs into network gets (192.168.0.20) --> (OS Public 192.168.0.244) OR (OS Public 172.16.0.22/24) --> (internal IP of VM of subnet user gave 192.168.23.0/24)
20:39 kur1j now I just have to wait for network admin to add router :-/
