04:37 badone kp: ping, is that you Krishnan?
04:38 avati that's him
04:40 badone avati: thanks
04:40 badone anyone ever seen Number of Bricks: 0 x 3 = 2
04:41 badone So brick_count == 2 and dist_count == 3
04:41 badone It "should" be 1 x 2 = 2
04:42 badone I think it may be related to a replace-brick being started but never commited
04:42 badone hehe, see you Krishnan
04:47 badone seems to equate to sub_count=3 in info file

17:46 johnmark hagarth: ping
17:46 johnmark hagarth: just wondering where the tarball will be, and approximate ETA
18:15 kkeithley_wfh You don't think it'll be at http://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/3.3/3.3.1/ ?
18:16 kkeithley_wfh And before everyone runs and looks, no, it isn't there yet

18:36 * bulde1 wants people to look at my latest mail to gluster-devel (about replace-brick), and validate it
18:37 bulde1 also if you don't know why  its important, please try to understand the code of 'glusterd-replace-brick.c' and 'pump.c' (both can be removed ideally)

19:27 johnmark kkeithley_wfh: er, yes, eventually. I thought we might want to give our package maintainters some time to get their builds ready :)
19:39 semiosis johnmark: i'm not crazy about maintaining yet another repo :/
19:44 semiosis maybe we could just set up a glusterfs account on launchpad.net and call that ppa the "official" repo for ubuntu
19:46 kkeithley_wfh johnmark: yeah, I came back from getting coffee, saw your q on irc and then saw the email.
20:17 johnmark hrm
20:18 johnmark semiosis: am thinking
20:18 johnmark semiosis: I dunno. PPA repos are supposed to be "experimental"
20:19 johnmark kkeithley_wfh: ok
20:19 semiosis where does it say that?
20:19 johnmark semiosis: that was always my assumption
20:20 johnmark because one of the P's stands for personal
20:20 johnmark I dunno, what about Debian users?
20:20 semiosis yeah i dont know about that either
20:20 johnmark semiosis: do they go to launchpad?
20:21 semiosis like i said the other day, i've never run a repo before
20:21 johnmark semiosis: ah, ok
20:21 johnmark semiosis: wait, who's teh debian maintainer?
20:21 semiosis patrick matthai
20:21 johnmark we can either direct people to the respective debian and ubuntu repos
20:21 johnmark or we host our own repos
20:22 semiosis he uploads into the official debian repos
20:22 johnmark ok
20:22 johnmark semiosis: but that probably takes some time
20:22 semiosis i wonder if launchpad ppas work for debian
20:23 semiosis probably not
20:23 semiosis since they do the builds
20:24 johnmark semiosis:some do, but but there's no guarantee
20:24 johnmark semiosis: do you work with Patrick to do the debian builds?
20:25 johnmark is he in #gluster?
20:26 semiosis no
20:26 johnmark ok
20:26 semiosis i mean, i do work with him
20:26 semiosis he is not in #gluster
20:26 semiosis debian has everythign automated
20:26 johnmark semiosis: ok
20:27 semiosis when a new tarball comes out he gets notified and tries a build, if anything fails he files a bug
20:27 semiosis sometimes i catch the failure before he does that and (usually) fix it
20:27 johnmark ok
20:27 semiosis which is a painful trial/error process for me
20:28 johnmark ok
20:28 semiosis sometimes i am unable to and we engage the gluster devs, kkeithley_wfh fixed the last one for us!  (thanks again!)
20:28 semiosis which was some gcc issue i dont even understand :)
20:28 johnmark semiosis: so if you push your repo to launchpad, is there an easy way to mirror that?
20:29 johnmark semiosis: and I'll have to pose the same question to patrick
20:29 semiosis anyway, ubuntu's build system is not so advanced and not so strict with compiler security options, so my ubuntu builds usually work
20:29 semiosis the repo patrick pushes to is debian unstable, usually
20:30 semiosis however since 3.3.0 was so new he pushed that into experimental
20:30 semiosis problem there is that no one but debian devs actually run systems from unstable or experimental
20:30 semiosis because they are... well... unstable and experimental
20:31 semiosis so in order to get those packages you have to switch your whole system to the future release of debian, no one is willing to do that
20:31 semiosis packaging ain't easy
20:31 semiosis at least, debian packaging :/
20:32 johnmark got it, ok
20:33 johnmark semiosis: but that's ok. although being a maintenance release, it should go to whatever release has 3.3.0
20:33 johnmark which is probably unstable, right?
20:33 semiosis let me check
20:33 johnmark ok
20:34 johnmark semiosis: and I knew plenty of admins "back in the day" who ran debian unstable
20:34 semiosis that was when they had a 6 year cycle between stable releases :P
20:34 johnmark haha
20:34 semiosis now it's only 2, in theory
20:34 johnmark there is that :)
20:35 johnmark so if we host a repo that builds with debian stable
20:35 johnmark then stable users can use our repo if they want 3.3.1
20:35 semiosis debian unstable, which will become the next stable release, named "wheezy" (following squeeze) has glusterfs 3.2.7
20:35 johnmark semiosis: ok
20:36 semiosis experimental has 3.3.0
20:36 johnmark gotcha, ok
20:36 semiosis you dont know any admins who ran that!
20:36 * semiosis would bet
20:36 johnmark no :)  at least none that survived long
20:36 semiosis hahahaha
20:36 johnmark ok, then it's fine to put it in experimental for the "official" debian repo
20:36 johnmark but I'd like to host our repo for stable and unstable
20:36 johnmark semiosis: how do I get in touch with Matthai?
20:37 semiosis i agree that would be nice
20:37 johnmark ok
20:37 johnmark semiosis: and if you have builds for 11.04 - 12.04, then we're set there
20:37 semiosis ah hm
20:37 johnmark and I have no idea who does the official builds for ubuntu
20:38 semiosis that would be me, which is why they're lagging behind!
20:38 johnmark haha
20:38 johnmark I mean, the builds that come in universe :)
20:38 semiosis yeah
20:38 semiosis so do i
20:38 * semiosis needs to get on that
20:38 johnmark ok
20:39 johnmark well, for this release, we'll have your packages, and we'll see about merging your efforts with official ubuntu down the road
20:39 semiosis doing the ppa thing is *really* easy compared to all the other options!
20:40 semiosis thats why i'm able to do it
20:40 semiosis launchpad.net takes care of so much stuff
20:40 johnmark semiosis: yeah, I hear ya
20:40 johnmark semiosis: here's what I suggest
20:40 semiosis there's so much process, if not also politics, involved everywhere else
20:40 johnmark continue with teh PPA
20:40 semiosis though fortunately i've not seen much politics going on in my limited experience with this stuff
20:40 johnmark and if you could, push your packages up to our servers
20:41 johnmark and it will be as simple as issuing an "scp" command
20:41 johnmark semiosis: see? no politics :)
20:41 semiosis johnmark: what i will do is make a new ppa and we can just mirror the output from launchpad's build servers to gluster.org's web site
20:41 johnmark semiosis: exactly
20:41 johnmark semiosis: sounds good
20:42 semiosis though i'd again point out just making a dediacated ppa & skipping the copy to gluster.org would be as good if not better
20:42 johnmark semiosis: sigh
20:42 semiosis but alas, we can do the copy
20:42 semiosis :)
20:42 johnmark haha :)
20:43 semiosis now, what did you want to get in touch with patrick about?
20:43 johnmark semiosis: debian builds
20:44 semiosis let me see if he's around on freenode right now... just a sec
20:44 johnmark for stable and unstable, hosted on gluster.org
20:44 johnmark semiosis: ok, thanks
20:46 semiosis johnmark: he's logged in to freenode but idk if he's actually on any channels... i pm'd him, but it's kinda late in germany now so maybe missed him for the day
20:46 semiosis i'll email him and ask him to drop in here tomorrow to chat
20:46 johnmark semiosis: ok, no worries
20:46 johnmark semiosis: thanks - appreciate it
