06:08 badshaah_ Hey, I was doing some experimental benchmarking with glusterfs.... I seem to run into an issue, if I write files with similar names from 2 nodes to a 2 node distributed and non replicated setup
06:08 badshaah_ Write throughput
06:08 badshaah_ goes down
06:09 badshaah_ what may be the possible reason?

16:08 ccorsani Hi
16:08 ccorsani Sorry for my english
16:09 ccorsani I work as sysadmin in Florence National Library
16:23 blues-man hi guys, about the discussion of yesterday of the project to use Gluster for the geo-replication of the National Library of Florence with big data for  wide-area environment, ccorsani made the first steps trying geo-replication with the version 3.3 in local with no success, as I mentioned in mailng list
16:35 blues-man while I need to understand theoretical aspect behind this functionality for the thesis aspect, the global goal is too understand how to let this system work before Google send back operas after scanned also employees :)

17:46 hagarth blues-man: what kind of problems did you run into with geo-replication?
17:58 blues-man hi hagarth, the problem was that it freezed any time, but since I haven't any access to the library now I cannot show you any log
18:00 hagarth blues-man: if you could get the logs, we can determine what caused the freeze
18:01 blues-man yes I will, I understand that talking on nothing it is kind of difficult :)
18:01 blues-man but my point would be to project the system to work in a "robust" way, also with your help I would make it possible
18:03 hagarth blues-man: definitely. once we have more details, we can look at possible next steps
18:04 blues-man sure
19:00 blues-man I go, see you

19:55 AndroUser Sorry i was on mobile an i losed connection
19:56 AndroUser I said i work for florence nation library, we work hard with glusterfs for our storage
19:57 AndroUser See: http://www.slideshare.net/mobile/ccorsani/ohacc-120510114446phpapp02
19:58 AndroUser And the one i made for redhat italy: www.slideshare.net/mobile/ccorsani/bncf-digital-long-term-preservation-glusterfs
19:58 AndroUser Sorry is in italian
19:59 AndroUser Based on the second one we are going to msde a huge storage project for cultural document. Just for instance we will start with american army doc during the second world war
19:59 AndroUser Will be near 800TB
20:00 AndroUser We are very happy of gluster but we need help
20:00 AndroUser We need simple, scalable (to big number) geo-storage
20:01 AndroUser We need to work on geographical replication, blues-man will probably work with us for his thesis
20:01 AndroUser And we have some ideas
20:02 AndroUser So i ask the comunity if someone is interested, it will be a very beatifull project in cultural long preservation domain
20:02 AndroUser Fell free to contact me at cristino.corsani@beniculturali.it i will give more details
20:03 AndroUser At the moment our main interest is to develop a more efficent (for our needs) geo replication method.
20:03 AndroUser Hope my english is not so bad :-)
20:04 JoeJulian Is this about development or support/implementation? If it's the latter, you might find more help in #gluster.
20:04 AndroUser Thanks to everyone and ... glusterfs is a marvelous fs, really, i love it
20:04 AndroUser Hi
20:04 AndroUser We need both
20:05 AndroUser We would like to develop a different georeplication
20:05 AndroUser And of course if someone can help to implement too
20:06 AndroUser My name is cristisno corsani, from florence, italy
20:06 JoeJulian Hmm, ok...
20:07 AndroUser We are in contact with redhat italy but they are more commercial
20:07 AndroUser Than research/development
20:07 AndroUser We have some ideas we would like to discuss
20:08 AndroUser Anyway i don't want to abuse of irc channel so
20:08 JoeJulian What I would suggest would be to create a new topic under http://www.gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/Features where you detail your concept for the design spec.
20:08 JoeJulian No abuse, just trying to make sure you get the best help.
20:08 AndroUser That's a great idea
20:11 AndroUser I will try to explain our problem that is, we think, the pr8blem related to long term storage preservation of document (book, photo, ...)
20:11 AndroUser Hope my english wont so badc:-)
20:12 AndroUser My email was wrong ... (damn tablet keyboard)
20:12 JoeJulian I'm sure it will be fine. Once you've got it written, we'll help you flush out the details.
20:13 AndroUser cristiano.corsani@beniculturali.it
20:13 AndroUser Fine
20:13 AndroUser I will work on it next week
20:13 JoeJulian Maybe that can become a GSoC project.
20:13 AndroUser Many thanks
20:13 AndroUser What means?
20:15 JoeJulian Google Summer of Code.
20:16 AndroUser Ha !
20:16 AndroUser Great
20:16 AndroUser Thank you
20:16 AndroUser I will follow your suggestion
