13:12 ndevos well, "free"

13:22 kkeithley johnmark: why isn't there a sign-on (login) link anywhere on blog.gluster.org (www.gluster.org/blog/) ???
13:22 kkeithley It's like Hunt the Wumpus every time I go there
13:23 kkeithley You'll probably tell me to bookmark it once I find it too.
13:23 kkeithley johnmark_: ^^^
13:26 jclift ndevos: No worries.  I'll go and get some food then.
13:27 jclift ndevos: Just wanting to generally ask what's been happening while I'm away, and see if there's anything urgent.
13:27 * jclift needs to figure out what to put time into now that I'm back :D
13:27 jclift ... and what happened to Amar?
13:27 * jclift sighs

13:50 ndevos jclift: nothing very urgent, maybe http://titanpad.com/gluster-at-fosdem2014 - but you'll see an email about that too, I guess
14:07 jclift johnmark: Heya.
14:07 jclift johnmark: Back now.  Need to work out what I'm putting time into now.
14:08 jclift When I left, the main things in mind were improving libgfapi info, then getting the Multi Node Test Suite happening.  And attempting to fit in GlusterFlow somewhere too.
14:09 jclift johnmark: But, it's been two months, and not sure what other ppl have done.  Should I still look into expanding out libgfapi info then doing the Multi Node Test Suite?
14:09 * jclift thinks he'll ignore the GlusterFlow stuff for the moment.  Maybe look at it again in future.
14:18 bharata-rao joined #gluster-dev
14:19 ndevos jclift: oh, I've done some CloudStack hacking, maybe you want to test that?
14:22 jclift Hmm... is it using libgfapi?
14:23 bala joined #gluster-dev
14:24 kkeithley haha, yeah, that's what I do too, when I can remember that. Making things easy to find though, that's hard. ;-P
14:26 johnmark :)
14:27 johnmark jclift: jdarcy started working on a dev guide for gluster
14:27 johnmark and I think he completed the outline - I'll see if he can share that with you
14:29 jclift johnmark: Thanks.
14:30 jclift ndevos: Is the CloudStack hacking stuff you're going using libgfapi?
14:30 johnmark jclift: ndevos: yup
14:30 johnmark check out https://forge.gluster.org/cloudstack-gluster
14:30 jclift s/going/doing/
14:31 johnmark jclift: also, we discovered that using a gluster volume as an iSCSI target actually works quite well
14:31 ndevos jclift: it's learning CloudStack to use GlusterFS volumes/files, VMs should start with qemu+gfapi
14:31 jclift johnmark: Cool. :)
14:31 johnmark jclift: there's a project to gfapi-ify your linux target kernel module
14:31 johnmark or you can just use the straight fuse-based client
14:32 jclift Interesting
14:32 ndevos jclift: the work I've done so far works for me, but nobody else tested it (or at least did not let me know)
14:33 johnmark the gfapi-based code is here: https://forge.gluster.org/gfapi-module-for-linux-target-driver-
14:34 johnmark jclift: personally, I'd love to see glusterflow come to fruition
14:34 johnmark as well as the hackers guide
14:40 jclift johnmark: I looked into the GlusterFlow thing briefly while on leave.  It would require learning Apache Lucene for the result set storing/querying, learning ElasticSearch configuration, and learning how to customise Kibana to show the desired properties.
14:40 johnmark ok
14:40 jclift johnmark: Not impossible, but would take a few weeks of focused effort.  Decided I didn't want to get into that on leave. :D
14:40 johnmark jclift: I don't blame you :)
14:40 johnmark jclift: sounds like something we could break into several pieces
14:40 jclift Yeah.  I needed time *away* from the computer.
14:41 johnmark and get some collaboration going
14:41 johnmark jclift: I hear you
14:41 johnmark jclift: each of those could be tackled separately or in parallel
14:41 johnmark we could probably get someone to help out wiht different chunks
14:42 johnmark but that usually only happens when you do the grunt work upfront and let potential collaborators what needs doing
14:42 johnmark er know what needs doing
14:42 jclift The Lucene bit would likely need to be done simultaneously to the Kibana bit.  From memory, Kibana recently (as of 2 months ago) added the ability to show the right kind of data (I don't remember the name any more), but it needed some work to get it to be stored correctly in the ElasticSearch database so it would show up right.
14:43 johnmark ah ok
14:43 johnmark jclift: we have friends in both places, by the way
14:43 johnmark we could probably get "official" support from boht of them for the purpose of working out a project
14:44 jclift The problem I hit, using (easy approach) LogStash to store the records in ElasticSearch, was that it uses space characters as string separators when indexing.
14:44 johnmark oh really?
14:44 johnmark that's probably configurable, no?
14:44 johnmark right, it probably interprets whitespace as an event separator or some such
14:44 jclift It wouldn't surprise me.  But I have no idea how, and didn't see anything obvious.  Someone clueful might know right away how to fix the problem though.
14:44 johnmark either way, we can get confirmation directly from their engineers
14:45 johnmark ok
14:45 jclift If you know someone that can fix that super simply, that would actually get us a long way towards a demo-able result.
14:45 jclift Actually, it would probably work right away if that was turned off.
14:47 jobewan joined #gluster-dev
14:48 johnmark jclift: ok. I'll dial up their CTO and maybe Jordan Sissel to see about getting some dev support
14:48 johnmark Jordan is the Logstash guy and works for elasticsearch, the company
14:48 jclift I basically got a single node (on laptop) demo running, but when it was showing the top files.... it wasn't indexing on full time names.  Each individual word in the paths was being indexed, and the top results for that was showing up instead.  eg for a set of files being used like: /mnt/some thing/file1, /mnt/some thing/file2, /mnt/some other thing/file3... the most used file would show up as "thing".  the word fragment. :(
14:49 jclift johnmark: That would be excellent. :)
14:49 johnmark jclift: ok, let's see what we can put together
14:50 johnmark jclift: ps - great to have you back! we missed you!
14:50 jclift Thanks. :)
14:50 * jclift looks shy
15:01 jclift Hmmm, is does anyone else have problems trying to get to koji.fedoraproject.org?
15:01 jclift My Firefox refuses to load the https page, saying it can't negotiate an acceptable set of parameters for the https connection.
15:02 jclift https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/login
15:03 kkeithley it asked me to identify myself with a cert and accept it, but then it went through
15:04 kkeithley didn't see this the other day though when I went there
15:04 johnmark speaking of certs, we now have an official SSL cert for *.gluster.org properties
15:06 jclift Cool
15:07 jclift kkeithley: Interestingly, this URL loads fine: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/  It's just the "login" word on the end that's causing it to fail for me.
15:07 jclift No idea why.
15:07 * jclift ignores it and gets on with work
15:12 kkeithley jclift: okay. yeah, probably none of the koji urls I've visited had login on the end
15:15 jclift Ahhh yeah.  I'll need to get my head into Middleman too.\

15:31 jclift Hmmm, at the bottom of every Gerrit-review message, it says "To unsubscribe, visit http://review.gluster.org/settings".
15:31 jclift I've just logged in, and can't find anything in the interface to unsubscribe me from the mail.
15:31 jclift Anyone know how to?
15:40 jclift Seems like it doesn't exist.  The Gerrit dev's don't seem to comprehend how someone might want to have an account on the server, but not be spammed by thousands of email. :/ http://code.google.com/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=2202
15:40 * jclift sets up a filter instead
15:41 jclift Actually, no.  Found it.  Solved.

17:38 jclift johnmark: I _might_ have a better location than the last one.

17:40 * jclift will visit their location tomorrow anyway, so will keep an eye out
