07:41 ndevos xavih: just a reminder in case it got lost in yesterdays chat
07:41 ndevos packages available for testing http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=6725197 , download becomes available at http://koji.fedoraproject.org/scratch/devos/task_6725197

07:42 ndevos well, packages are available already :)
07:43 ndevos xavih: the patch works for me, someone made the decoding little-endian, but that should be big-endian (rpc/xdr standard)
07:44 xavih ndevos: yes, sorry, I was in a meeting yesterday until late and I couldn't test it
07:44 xavih ndevos: I need to finish a couple of things and I'll test it
07:44 xavih ndevos: thanks :)
07:44 ndevos xavih: no worries, its not urgent for me :)

08:35 xavih ndevos: the 'flags' field of OPEN calls shows correctly now, but the 'mode' field of CREATE calls still seems to be interpreted in the wrong order
08:39 ndevos xavih: oh, hmm, lets see if I can find a CREATE somewhere, maybe its done separate :-/
08:41 ndevos xavih: right, got it
08:43 ndevos xavih: seems the mount-flags in a STATFS Reply has similar issues
08:43 raghu joined #gluster-dev
08:43 ndevos xavih: you want a new package for testing?
08:44 xavih ndevos: as you prefer, no problem from my side
08:45 ndevos xavih: me neither, I can build you one if you like, I'm not on Fedora so I wont build it for myself - it's just two commands to get it for you
08:46 xavih ndevos: if it's not much trouble, then yes, I'll test it :)
08:51 ndevos xavih: building here: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=6726825 use http://koji.fedoraproject.org/scratch/devos/task_6726825 for downloading when it's finished

08:51 xavih ndevos: thank you very much :)
08:51 ndevos xavih: no problem at all, glad someone else uses it :)
08:52 xavih ndevos: it's great to see what is really happening when you get a mess :P
08:53 ndevos xavih: :) in case your xlator adds new fops, point me to the code and I can add those fops to wireshark too
08:54 xavih ndevos: nothing new yet, though I overloaded some of the existing fops...
08:55 ndevos xavih: only if the parameters changed it would matter
08:55 xavih ndevos: no, nothing modified in the protocol
08:56 ndevos xavih: okay, sounds good to me then, just let me know if those new packages fix the flags/mode for now ;)
08:57 ndevos well, still building...
08:57 xavih ndevos: sure :)
09:03 ndevos jclift, lalatenduM: is it Asciidoc or Markdown?
09:03 ndevos xavih: build finished :)

09:06 ndevos jclift, lalatenduM: it seems doc/ contains mostly .md files, I'll take it we're doing Markdown?
09:06 lalatenduM jclift, ndevos , as of now it is markdown, but Iam in favor of ascii doc
09:07 ndevos lalatenduM: I dont have an opinion, just need a format that I can use to submit a patch...
09:07 lalatenduM ndevos, jclift we need to fix few thing before we move to acsii doc, I will reply to jclift's mail
09:07 lalatenduM ndevos, you can use markdown as of now
09:07 ndevos lalatenduM: okay, I'll do that :)
09:08 lalatenduM ndevos, we can do a mass conversion of md to ascii some day
09:13 ndevos lalatenduM: do you know of a markdown editor that I can use to check the generated output?
09:13 xavih ndevos: now it works perfectly :)
09:13 xavih ndevos: thanks
09:13 ndevos xavih: awesome, thanks for reporting and testing!
09:14 xavih ndevos: no problem

10:13 glusterbot Title: Online Markdown Editor - Dillinger, the Last Markdown Editor ever. (at dillinger.io)
10:37 lalatenduM ndevos, yup, I can see why :), may be we should put its reference in the wiki page

10:38 glusterbot Title: Online Markdown Editor - Dillinger, the Last Markdown Editor ever. (at dillinger.io)
10:39 ndevos lalatenduM: oh, you can? I did not look at any features, just copy/pasted the feature page in there for editing
10:39 tdasilva left #gluster-dev
10:39 lalatenduM ndevos, yeah we can, check the upper task bar
10:40 ndevos lalatenduM: yeah, just looking at it, quite nifty
10:41 lalatenduM ndevos, you need to link your github account from the editor, then you can import markdown documents from your repos
10:46 lalatenduM msvbhat, which markdown editor you are using?
10:48 msvbhat lalatenduM: vi :P
10:48 msvbhat lalatenduM: First I wrote the content using markable.in and then copied the text to my vi editor
10:49 msvbhat lalatenduM: I used dillinger as well. Felt markable bit more comfortable.
10:50 lalatenduM msvbhat, cool, just check if the current document is properly rendered in any markdown edititor
11:09 ndevos msvbhat: you did not file the change against a bug, you can use your feature bug for it if it is not closed yet
11:10 ndevos msvbhat: if that bug is still open, you can add the bug-alias glusterfs-3.5.0 to the "blocks" field too, that way we can track which bugs need to be fixed for the 3.5 release
11:11 ndevos lalatenduM: if you are aware of any new doc bugs, you could do ^ for them too
11:14 lalatenduM ndevos, yeah agree, we can use the 3.5 tracking bug for doc patches
11:14 ndevos lalatenduM: I'd prefer to have a bug per feature, and add that bug to the tracker, it's just cleaner
11:15 kkeithley jclift: ping
11:16 ndevos lalatenduM: that also makes it easier listing which bugs need work: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/showdependencytree.cgi?id=1049981&hide_resolved=0
11:16 lalatenduM ndevos, got it, yup it is cleaner and right thing to do
11:16 glusterbot Title: Dependency tree for Bug 1049981 (at bugzilla.redhat.com)
11:17 ndevos lalatenduM: I filed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1086700 , maybe we should file one for each feature?
11:17 glusterbot Bug 1086700: unspecified, unspecified, ---, ndevos, POST , Add documentation for the Feature: Brick Failure Detection
11:17 ndevos hmm, unspecified should probably be changed...
11:18 lalatenduM ndevos, yeah it is a good idea, we can track these bugs through the release tracker bugs :)
11:18 ndevos lalatenduM: yeah, see that ^ url for the dependencytree
11:18 shubhendu joined #gluster-dev
11:19 lalatenduM ndevos, and these bugs will blocking the release also
11:19 * ndevos likes a little order in bugs
11:19 lalatenduM ndevos, yeah the tree was cool
11:19 ndevos lalatenduM: yeah, hence the "blocks" glusterfs-3.5.0 field
11:20 lalatenduM ndevos, yesh
11:21 ndevos lalatenduM: you want to file the bugs, or shall I try to do that?
11:22 * ndevos would like to test the bugzilla command one day, but that day does not need to be today
11:22 lalatenduM ndevos, so each bug per http://www.gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/Planning35

11:22 lalatenduM ?

11:29 ndevos lalatenduM: I think we agree :)
11:29 kkeithley lalatenduM: I'll look in a bit
11:30 lalatenduM ndevos, yup :)
11:30 kkeithley oh, that's a bad repo file. :-(
11:31 nishanth joined #gluster-dev
11:31 lalatenduM ndevos, I think in my list I need to file bugs for 3.4 doc e.g. libgfapi
11:32 ndevos lalatenduM: yes, thats correct
11:32 lalatenduM ndevos, we can make them blocker for 3.4.4 :)
11:32 ndevos lalatenduM: well, no need to file bugs for 3.4 doc, just a bug for 3.5 should be sufficient
11:33 kkeithley I've recreated the repo files. Try `yum clean all` then retry your install/update
11:33 ndevos lalatenduM: we'll leave it up to kkeithley if he wants the doc backports for a 3.4 release
11:33 lalatenduM ndevos, yeah , will file on 3.5
11:33 lalatenduM kkeithley, on it
11:34 kkeithley I'm not in charge. johnmark said no 3.5.0 until we had docs for all the new features in 3.4 and 3.5.
11:34 kkeithley but I'm not in charge. ;-)
11:35 lalatenduM kkeithley, yeah it worked , thanks :)
11:37 lalatenduM kkeithley, did you see the recent mail in centos-devel about storage-sig repo ?
11:37 kkeithley yup
11:37 kkeithley saw it

11:39 ira_ joined #gluster-dev
11:39 kkeithley that, and a git repo to put src.rpms in,
11:40 lalatenduM kkeithley, yes, once I get access I will add you, hchiramm_ and purpleidea :)
11:41 kkeithley sounds good
11:44 lalatenduM ndevos, there should be a component as doc in bugzilla for GlusterFS
11:44 kkeithley maybe jrivera for Samba. Is Sateesh the new hire hagarth is grooming to take over community builds? Maybe him too.
11:44 kkeithley cross that bridge when we get there
11:45 lalatenduM kkeithley, yeah agree
11:45 ndevos lalatenduM: yes, but I'm filing bugs against the component that introduces the feature
11:47 kkeithley pffft. This time the rpm.t worked for my argp-standalone build patch
11:48 kkeithley btw, 3.4.3 reached 7 days in Bodhi. The rpms are migrating to Fedora updates repo (from updates-testing)
11:49 kkeithley 3.4.3 for f19 actually got +3 karma from users. I think that's the first time that's happened
11:49 kkeithley and 3.4.3 for f20 got +2.
11:55 msvbhat ndevos: Sorry, I just saw your message
11:56 msvbhat ndevos: Shall I add it to the existing feature/generic bug or open a new one and add *that* to the tracker bug?
11:57 ndevos msvbhat: probably create a new bug for it, were doing that for the other missing doc pieces too
11:57 lalatenduM msvbhat, we are filing bugs, you should get a bug number shortly
11:57 ndevos or that way
11:57 ndevos lalatenduM: are you also assigning the bugs to the feature owners?
11:58 msvbhat lalatenduM: Looks good. Assign those bugs to me.
11:58 ndevos lalatenduM: I dont think I'll do that, figuring out the emails would be time consuming
11:58 msvbhat lalatenduM: Only those two I mean

12:01 ndevos lalatenduM: hmm, not sure what to do with that...
12:01 lalatenduM atinm, ping, should I the remove-brick doc bug to you?

12:01 glusterbot Bug 1086737: unspecified, unspecified, ---, rwheeler, NEW , Add documentation for the Feature: Remove brick CLI change

13:49 lpabon jenkins update -- Two nodes in rackspace have been fixed and now the queue is up again
13:50 lpabon Jenkins is running more jobs again.. i mean
13:52 ndevos lpabon: are those jenkins jobs in a git repository on the forge?
13:53 lpabon ndevos: no, all it does is run a mock to create the rpm
13:54 ndevos lpabon: but maybe we should think of putting those tests somewhere?
13:54 ndevos lpabon: also, does it replace tests/basic/rpm.t?
13:54 lpabon ndevos: no, it doesn't replace it, it is really not a test
13:54 ndevos lpabon: hmm, okay
13:54 lpabon ndevos: it is just a way to create rpms and have Jenkins archive them
13:56 lpabon ndevos: i agree if they were tests they should definitely go into git, but its just a line of bash to create rpms for Jenkins to archive and provide rpms to developers
13:58 ndevos lpabon: that sounds helpful, did you announce that to a list?
13:58 kkeithley it just occurred to me why it might have been stuck. The first version of my argp-standalone patch had an inadvertent endless loop. Maybe there should be a timeout? Is that possible?
13:59 ndevos kkeithley: hmm, I was thinking of dropping the whole argp-standalone - I could not think of a real use-case for not using the system provide version?
14:03 kkeithley Probably not a good idea. MacOS XCode sdk doesn't have argp.h. Maybe the MacOS port uses a third-party package for it?
14:05 ndevos I dont know, but I dont like the bundling of libraries :-/
14:05 kkeithley I can't get to a NetBSD box, but FreeBSD doesn't have it either.
14:05 ndevos netbsd seems to have it, or at least there is a port for it
14:06 kkeithley yeah, might be a port on FreeBSD too for all I know.

14:45 jclift Hmmm, Libgfapi is maintained by Avati according to the MAINTAINERS file.
14:45 jclift Wonder if that's correct these days?
14:47 ndevos jclift: correct, more or less, but I doubt we should wait for him to write docs
14:48 jclift Thiago da Silva maybe?
14:49 jclift tdasilva: You're the best person to write the feature docs for Libgfapi in short order aren't you?
14:53 lpabon afaik tdasilva would be a backup person to write it but not point.. maybe a reviewer
14:54 jclift lpabon: We're not after full docs here before the release. Just the a) b) c) stuff. eg feature description, how to get started with them, any useful commands. It can definitely say to "look in the source code" for function descriptions and stuff
14:54 lpabon from https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/blame/master/api/src/glfs.h it looks like avati and kkeithley are the maintainers
14:54 glusterbot Title: gluster/glusterfs at master · GitHub (at github.com)
14:54 ndevos jclift: also, the quick referenc is just passing glfs.h though doxygen :P
14:54 jclift Heh
14:55 jclift Ultra quick reference ;)
14:55 lpabon ndevos: it needs to be doxygen'ized.. comments have /* instead of /** and so on
14:56 ndevos lpabon: I did not look at the details, but glfs.h is pretty well documented
14:56 lpabon The comments for the headers are also incorrect for doxygen, for example, it would grab "SYNOPSIS" as the brief description to each of the api functions :)
14:56 lpabon ndevos: i think it is about 25% well documented :-)
14:56 ndevos lpabon: have you seen the rest of the gluster sources? glfs.h is AMAZING
14:57 lpabon ndevos: yes 0.00000000000000000001 is > than 0 :-D
14:57 ndevos :)
15:22 jclift Wow, this is a lot of overnight IRC history to read.
15:22 jclift About 1/2 way through.
15:23 jclift I was probably wrong to add the remove-brick feature for 3.5 (it was near end of day :/). We can probably do it as a 3.6 feature, and not include the docs for that for 3.5. The release notes mention the 3.5 deprecation for remove-brick.
15:30 jclift Heh, I've never really understood what the argp-standalone stuff is for.
15:30 jclift We could definitely ask the guys working on the Gluster-OSX port if they make use of it.
15:31 jclift Hmm, gotta go for a bit
16:21 lalatenduM jclift, ndevos, johnmark purpleidea , you guys see my mail on gluster-user and devl on CentOS storage SIG? did I miss anything
16:22 ndevos lalatenduM: what email from you?
16:22 lalatenduM ndevos, subject "Packages For CentOS Storage SIG"
16:23 ndevos lalatenduM: no, and http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.gluster.devel is pretty fast in catching up on mails
16:23 glusterbot Title: Gmane Loom (at thread.gmane.org)

16:25 ndevos lalatenduM: maybe the outgoing mailserver has a delay...

18:38 purpleidea lalatenduM: saw it now :)
18:39 lalatenduM purpleidea, not sure what happened to my previous mail :),
18:39 purpleidea lalatenduM: when you're actually ready a new build of the puppet-gluster RPM's, let me know and I'll generate some. Code base seems to be changing a lot right now, so I'll wait until the last minute before I make new ones.
18:40 purpleidea lalatenduM: typically the NSA will kill some emails in transit, if they think they help empower the Free Software community :P
18:41 lalatenduM purpleidea, sure (regarding the puppet-gluster)
18:42 * lalatenduM wants some magic to happen and world will be free from NSA. May be heartbleed will help them :(
19:07 purpleidea lalatenduM: let me know if there's any patches you need :)
19:08 lalatenduM purpleidea, as of kb is trying put together the infra for all this, once infra is ready , we can create rpms for puppet also
